We drive 35 mins to attend this school while passing dozens of other martial art studios for the following reasons: Master Olson in the Danville studio is very age appropriate in his teaching and coaching methods. The lessons on the 5 tenets (modesty, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit) has helped my son in the past 1 1/2 years to be more confident, responsible and goal driven. I love that the classes are not only separated by skill set but also by age groups. The parents viewing area is open to observe all elements of the class and the transparency has been refreshing! You can tell that child safety, cleanliness and positive reinforcement is a priority for this school. Finally, unlike other schools, the use of the Korean language, explanation on the culture and history of TKD has allowed my son to learn about his heritage along with the significance of what he is learning. I highly recommend this school and instructors for any age!!

It feels as though the instruction style is more suited to adults than young students, which is frustrating given the level of commitment and cost involved. Master Celina Hespen and the other instructors appear to be skilled and of course, patient... not just with our child, but as we observed, with the other students as well. We transitioned our then 6yo son to MAA San Ramon in mid-May because the original studio he was taking basic martial arts lesson from was in Castro Valley (CV) and we live in San Ramon. - We initially enrolled our son in the CV martial arts because it was his classmate's Dad's studio. Unfortunately, due to the CV studio's location, our son was only able to attend on a Saturday and when we have weekend plans or he's sick, he was unable to make up the missed class on a weekday due to the classes' availability. After exiting the CV martial arts studio, we began our search for a new martial arts studio closer to home. We saw a Facebook ad for MAA San Ramon and after browsing their website, we selected a $25 special (3 classes plus a uniform included in the package). We selected this offer because we weren't sure how our son would take to the instructors and the regimen. Lo and behold, our son loved it! Although he was 6yo at the time, Master Celina felt he was ready and would do well in the Basic Class for 7+ year olds, and you know what? She was absolutely right! Our son not only thrived with Master Celina, but he truly flourished. He was able to participate in more than one class a week, and he followed instructions, routines, etc. well. Master Celina and the other instructors also made sure to correct in a firm but appropriate manner all of the students when they weren't paying attention, not following instructions, not being respectful, etc. We simply can't say enough great things about MAA San Ramon, Master Celina, Master Nathan, Master Zaak, Master Alexander, Master Sammy (pardon the spelling if it's incorrect), and all of the remaining staff who are in some type of leadership program (we think it's called the Certified Instructor Training ("CIT") Program). Also, we recently had our son's 7th birthday party here with approximately 34 participants, and all of the 1st grade kids loved the activities (a few of the kids were in higher grades who don't go to our son's school, but they also loved it). The parents were also impressed with MAA San Ramon and we are more than happy and proud to have been a small part of it. The kids had a blast and even spoke about the party at school the following day. Surprisingly enough, even a few 2nd graders and Kindergartners from school heard great things about the activities from the party (we're honestly not sure how that happened). MAA San Ramon kept the energy up, the activities were fluid, and pizza/cake time after was a blast :) Needless to say, we're extremely happy with them and it sounds like Master Celina is a new owner of MAA San Ramon (and MAA Pleasanton). We're adding this tidbit since it looks like the other Yelp reviews are old and has outdated information.

Twisted ankles, injured knees, groin kicks, etc are common in the trainings. This place used to be more fun diversified with 2nd and 3rd coaches, but not anymore. Kids can quickly get bored. Now it is geared more for goal-oriented fighters. Overall if you willing to spend good chunk of your life and money on professional kicking and punching, this is the right place for you. Otherwise there are plenty other martial arts places around providing fun environment for kids and adults.

I personally have attended most of the classes the MMA program has to offer and all the coaches are some of the best in the game, but I attend the morning Muay Thai class with Amber the most and she is a fantastic coach with years of experience. My overall striking and grappling have improved because of this gym and I plan to train here as much as I can. Thanks CSA!

A couple of suggestions. Read the rules. It is clear that outside food or drink are not allowed. Neither are street clothes, as they are a safety hazard in public or shared pools. If people sneak stuff in without the staff knowing, then that is on them. I have seen people be asked to leave for sneaking alcohol in. I have never seen the staff there demand anyone throw anything away. They offer to let you walk it back to your car. Again, had you read the rules, you would have known this. In order to keep facilities like these affordable, the rules must be enforced. The insurance rates will sky rocket when there are claims because someone got hurt by a drunk patron. I used to work in Government, and this is the case with all facilities. Also, the wave has a lot of young people working there in their first job. They are learning how to work and be adults, show them some kindness. Lastly, please take an English class. As a Hispanic, I have worked hard to overcome people's negative viewpoints about us being uneducated and ignorant. Your review doesn't help in that regard.

I understand that staff members have to enforce safety rules, especially when the facility is busy, but the communication could have been more welcoming. The kids still had some fun, but the crowds, closures, limited seating, and service made the visit less enjoyable than it could have been. This place has potential for a family outing, but I would recommend checking what is open before visiting and going during a less crowded time.

Instead, the day typically didn't start until 9:30 AM and was essentially over by 3:30 PM, with kids sitting around waiting for pickup. On the first day, one coach kicked a ball into my son's head and then disappeared for the rest of the week. My son came home every day saying he learned no soccer skills because there was little to no coaching. They didn't even play soccer on the last day. Most activities were random games unrelated to soccer. Afternoons consisted mainly of crafts, Legos, and a bounce house--fun activities, but not what was advertised. The check-in process was also disorganized. The receptionist repeatedly struggled to find my son's registration because she was confused about first and last names, despite his information being clearly visible in the system. She claims everyone makes mistake and that's ok, please tell this to your boss, not me. This camp has potential, but it is poorly managed and does not deliver what it promises. Updated based on Russ's feedback - the name in the system was correct because when your receptionist can't find it and handed me the iPad, I was able to look it up and it looks right. However, looks like it was sorted by first name but she asked for last name. I understand it was supposed to be very structured, but during class, it was not the case. My son even asked the coach to teach him how to kick and shoot better but the coach ignored him.

She always has that brilliant smile at the end of every class with an end product, which is quite priceless! Devina also does corporate events and special events like birthdays - we invited her to do a lesson for my daughter and her friends for her birthday (Andy Warhol's donuts). What a super cool outcome that was! In addition to art, Devina also teaches public speaking, which has helped my daughter understand how to write outlines, make better arguments, reduce filler words and project better body language. Most importantly it has helped boost her self confidence! Devina is not just a teacher - she is invested in the development of your child all along the way, which is not something you'd get in some of the best teachers. We are truly lucky to have her in our daughter's life!

It's about 3 miles if you go all the way to the driving range at Bridges Golf Course. At that point the trail peters out. It looks like they are constructing a new trailhead there. The trail is open, so don't count on any shade in the summer. It's pretty much green hills, with a compacted dirt trail. Fortunately, it's not rutted. I found the hike mildly interesting, but honestly, nothing special. Near the golf course practice center, I saw a lot of range balls on the ground. I was tempted to take them, but I threw most of them back onto the range. I'm pretty sure I did not hit anyone, but a few times I heard some klunks, followed by shouts. I wasn't sure what that meant. They might have been mad that I still had 2 golf balls in my jacket. I did not notice I had borrowed some golf balls until I was pretty far away. These trails are good for beginner hikers, since there aren't any wild animals around. I'm pretty sure there aren't any rattlesnakes or mountain lions. But if there are, I did not see them. And even if I did see any, I had some golf balls I could throw at them. The only wild animals are herds of cows. And there are lots of them! At one point I had to go way around a huge herd. I'm not really afraid of cows, but one kept looking at me with menacing eyes and did not budge from the trail. I was afraid of that one. Could it be a boy cow? I was afraid to get close to find out, so I honestly don't know if it was a boy or girl cow. But he or she looked mean. The whole time I went around the cows I kept saying pleasant things like, "Hi Susie," or "Hi Betsy, how are you?" I'm pretty sure they knew I was a friendly man. I was surprised they knew English. So over all, a pleasant hike. Nothing really special, but plenty of parking makes this a convenient location. The incline is really not too steep, so most hikers will find this an easy hike. For yelpers who are geocachers, there are plenty of geocaches on this trail. I put out about 8 new ones, so there will be lots to find. Keep in mind that there really aren't any facilities such as restrooms or drinking faucets. On the other hand, it's really not a very long hike. Just watch out for that cow with the mean looking eyes.
