The environment is strongly, toxic, and not tolerant of neurodivergent, children and adolescence…read more The manager, Josh, who has been there managing the dojo for a few years, has made it obvious that he does not reward children on the autism spectrum who try just as hard as Neurotypical kids. my son adores most of the coaches there - they are good people and great coaches, however, due to the blatant discrimination, I've felt I had to pull my son from their facility and I'm currently looking into other jujutsu dojo's in the Danville area. There are a few kids that go there whose parents are also members that seem to get extreme favoritism - unfortunately I gave this dojo a fair shot and almost canceled it three times-- however, my son really loved a couple of the coaches so I kept hoping the culture would get better -- unfortunately, it did not. Most recently I asked if my son could attend the teen and adult kickboxing classes. He told me that it was only for teens and adults, after my son went a couple times. My son is 11 years old and he was enjoying the kickboxing classes a lot. after a few months I called Josh again and asked him if he could rejoin and Josh said he can rejoin if he doesn't 'have any more tantrums or is disruptive in the class'. However, I was there each time he was in the class as well as my friend Lisa and we never saw any tantrums or disruptions -- what we did see was a lot of questions because they were new to kickboxing, Enzo went there with one of his friends to learn about kickboxing and to participate, and they really loved it. After they were kicked out of the class, I didn't want to make a big deal about it, however I asked again if he could rejoin it, and he said he was too disruptive and throwing tantrums, which was a blatant lie. That was the final straw for me. All my communication has come From Josh , no one else. I also found out that stripes, which are progress awards, are only given to the k kids who attend on 'Gi' days, after attending that dojo for 3 years no one took the opportunity to convey that information to me after i inquired how stripes were given out. Again, all this was with my 1-1 communication with the manager - Josh. Apparently the owners are not involved at all and live in Idaho??? So trying to reach out to other management has been impossible. I'd appreciate any recommendations for a local Brazilian Juijitsu dojo - thx

He believes it's OK to whisper in an 11 year old's ear "quit f#@*ing around" and "if you do that again I'm going to slap the s#!% out of you". This man should not be working around kids. When I confronted him he said," yeah I guess my mouth gets me in trouble sometimes. Thanks." Maybe some parents are OK with that. I'm not. We went to Mineiro BJJ in Alamo and wish we'd have found it sooner. Thanks Coach Marty and Coach Ripper for investing in our son, we'll miss you guys.

Now that my son has advanced to the Black Belt Club, I wanted to share some feedback regarding the…read moreinstruction quality. I believe the classes would be more productive if Master celina were more directly involved in teaching, especially since she selects the teachers. Unfortunately, the current teachers and assistants, particularly those teaching the Wednesday 5:30 PM class, do not seem adequately prepared to work with children. The lack of correction and engagement has been noticeable, and many of the children quickly lose focus. It feels as though the instruction style is more suited to adults than young students, which is frustrating given the level of commitment and cost involved. I'm sharing this in the spirit of support and improvement, as we truly value the program and want to see the children thrive.

Understandably so, everyone's experience with a business varies. However, in our opinion, MAA San…read moreRamon deserve at a minimum this 5 star rating based on OUR experience. Master Celina Hespen and the other instructors appear to be skilled and of course, patient... not just with our child, but as we observed, with the other students as well. We transitioned our then 6yo son to MAA San Ramon in mid-May because the original studio he was taking basic martial arts lesson from was in Castro Valley (CV) and we live in San Ramon. - We initially enrolled our son in the CV martial arts because it was his classmate's Dad's studio. Unfortunately, due to the CV studio's location, our son was only able to attend on a Saturday and when we have weekend plans or he's sick, he was unable to make up the missed class on a weekday due to the classes' availability. After exiting the CV martial arts studio, we began our search for a new martial arts studio closer to home. We saw a Facebook ad for MAA San Ramon and after browsing their website, we selected a $25 special (3 classes plus a uniform included in the package). We selected this offer because we weren't sure how our son would take to the instructors and the regimen. Lo and behold, our son loved it! Although he was 6yo at the time, Master Celina felt he was ready and would do well in the Basic Class for 7+ year olds, and you know what? She was absolutely right! Our son not only thrived with Master Celina, but he truly flourished. He was able to participate in more than one class a week, and he followed instructions, routines, etc. well. Master Celina and the other instructors also made sure to correct in a firm but appropriate manner all of the students when they weren't paying attention, not following instructions, not being respectful, etc. We simply can't say enough great things about MAA San Ramon, Master Celina, Master Nathan, Master Zaak, Master Alexander, Master Sammy (pardon the spelling if it's incorrect), and all of the remaining staff who are in some type of leadership program (we think it's called the Certified Instructor Training ("CIT") Program). Also, we recently had our son's 7th birthday party here with approximately 34 participants, and all of the 1st grade kids loved the activities (a few of the kids were in higher grades who don't go to our son's school, but they also loved it). The parents were also impressed with MAA San Ramon and we are more than happy and proud to have been a small part of it. The kids had a blast and even spoke about the party at school the following day. Surprisingly enough, even a few 2nd graders and Kindergartners from school heard great things about the activities from the party (we're honestly not sure how that happened). MAA San Ramon kept the energy up, the activities were fluid, and pizza/cake time after was a blast :) Needless to say, we're extremely happy with them and it sounds like Master Celina is a new owner of MAA San Ramon (and MAA Pleasanton). We're adding this tidbit since it looks like the other Yelp reviews are old and has outdated information.

From a young age we tried all sort of sports and activities out there- from swimming, to gymnastics, to ice skating, to soccer and even ballroom dancing and NONE of them peaked his interest as much as Taekwondo. Coach Roman was able to ignite the fire that was in him and reveal a true passion for something other than screen time ;-). In all seriousness, I never thought that our son would willingly train for hours 5 times a week and compete on a national level not because we "make him" but because he truly wants to. Thanks to Tornado our son also made lifelong friends and all of the parents at the school make it feel like we are all a big family. We train together, travel together, cheer on our kids together and celebrate all wins as each child is our own. I can't recommend Tornado enough, it's really a life changing place!

He has authoritarian vision on training and not tolerating other coaches. He is focused on competitive fighting. Injuries are considered natural part of it. Twisted ankles, injured knees, groin kicks, etc are common in the trainings. This place used to be more fun diversified with 2nd and 3rd coaches, but not anymore. Kids can quickly get bored. Now it is geared more for goal-oriented fighters. Overall if you willing to spend good chunk of your life and money on professional kicking and punching, this is the right place for you. Otherwise there are plenty other martial arts places around providing fun environment for kids and adults.

But Coach Alex is simply fantastic with kids and instructing them in the most positive way. I was a little concerned about the potential injuries and chokeholds in BJj, but the coaches are so good at watching the kids closely and making sure kids stay safe. There are several assistant coaches that vary depending on be day, and all are excellent and promote learning, safety and positivity. The dojo is spacious and clean. I honestly can't say enough good things. There are classes for the whole age range of kids and adults. I never thought my girls would do BJJ and I have to say, it's been a great experience--my kids used to get nervous going, bc again, physically grappling with another kid was an alien concept to them, but now they are pretty comfortable and I can see how empowered they feel after each class. Their stamina and physical fitness are much improved--they used to complain about PE in school but now, they have no problems running the laps, doing pushups, etc. If you are a parent looking for a new activity for your kid that will help with not only their physical wellness but also really promote feeling confident and empowered, Warriors BJJ under Coach Alex is a fantastic option, great for both girls as well as boys!
