On Yelp, three stars means "OK" which is what I think about the New York Red Bulls. They've been…read moreOK. The Red Bulls are one of the 10 original teams to begin Major League Soccer (MLS) play in 1996. In 25 complete seasons, the Red Bulls have zero MLS Cup appearances. However, they have won the Supporters' Shield three times, one shy of the current league record co-held by DC United and LA Galaxy (four shields each). All three of the Red Bulls shields were won in the previous decade: 2013 (59 points), 2015 (60), and 2018 (71). So I guess you can say things have been trending up since 1996. The Red Bulls were at the top of the MLS standings at the conclusion of the 2018 regular season. They were the first-seed in the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately for New York/New Jersey, the Red Bulls lost to the eventual MLS Cup champions that year, Atlanta United FC, in the Conference Finals, 3-1. Atlanta was able to win the MLS Cup in just the team's second year of existence while after two-and-a-half decades, the Red Bulls are still searching for their first MLS Cup appearance. English forward Bradley Wright-Phillips played for the Red Bulls during the 2018 campaign. He was with the team from 2013 to 2019, appearing in 195 games, the most for any club in his career. For five straight seasons (2014-2018), Wright-Phillips was the team's top scorer. He holds team records in both goals scored in a single season (27 in 2014) and all time (125; second place is held by Juan Pablo Angel with less than half: 62). Since 2010, the Red Bulls' home has been "The Fortress," Red Bull Arena, in Harrison, New Jersey. Also referred to as the "Cathedral of American Soccer," Red Bull Arena has a seating capacity of 25,000, making it one of the bigger venues in MLS. It's not among the biggest, though, as at least five other venues have a capacity of 30,000 or higher. The New York Red Bulls were originally known as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. It wasn't until Red Bull, the energy drink company, purchased the team in 2006 when the team's name was changed to Red Bull New York (a.k.a. New York Red Bulls).

This is the original MLS team that I was fanatical about, and have been following for many years. Of course in my day they were the Metrostars, but my day is no longer the day - however I still I'm a fan and I still root for them a lot, and especially since they moved into this amazing Stadium, I'm kind of jealous because I didn't get to be a fan in these days, just in those days. Of course the stadium is actually not in New York City and not even near it so they really should be the Jersey team because this is the heart of Latin New Jersey. Pretty much right across the river from Newark. It's beautiful and amazing and I'm a huge fan of a team still to this day. I just wish they would have put some titles on the board to match how amazing they were in so many different seasons. They've been nothing but great for the league and especially in the Thierry Henry days and the Bradley Wright-Phillips days - it's been nothing but awesome for this team. But no championships.

Sure it's a lot about selling merch--cool, unique, not available everywhere merch at that though--and the prices are not cheap, but they also took great pains to incorporate artwork and interactive exhibits in the back, and I think have hosted events here with Mets and SNY personnel. Like the now impressive team and its wonderful stadium, this is another smaller but appreciated example of the care and thought and excellence--and love of all things Mets and the desire to celebrate that love--that have completely transformed this franchise under the auspices of the only billionaire we should allow to survive The Purge, our beloved Uncle Steve.

Beyond the Mets ware, (including with new uniform designs,) collectibles, plush and other stuff, you'll find other reasons to go and check it out! For out-of-town fans of other teams, you can have a lot of fun too! There's a "Mets Match Your Swing" motion capture cage that's great! A big screen Mets gaming wall! A mini Mets Museum with memorabilia! Mets House also offers ticket deals and victory celebrations! (Let's go, Mets!) Absolutely big on Mr. Met, and there's a lot of there with him! You'll also find items with Mrs. Met too! (Need to eventually replace my well-worn super favorite Mr. Met cap sported in my Yelp profile photo, so looking for options!) Check out their website for events, like the free mochi offered during my visit. They also have Apple live podcast recordings at Met House's "The Dugout" studio. Sundays are geared to families, including Mr. and Mrs. Mets visits when there isn't a home game! Cey Adams has created a large logo art installation wall perfect for your selfie to share! The only thing I didn't see, which should be in the Mets House line up, Grimace! Thank you, Mets, for making this in-town fan stop happen! Ya gotta believe!

The Richmond County stadium is super easy to get to because it's right next to the SI Ferry terminal with a good view of NY harbor and is a standard minor league park similar to the LI Ducks, Brooklyn Cyclones or Newark Bears. I always enjoy coming here. Courtesy of company sponsored tickets, we sat on the 3rd base line almost even with the bag and we had a great view. Plus the seats came with All-You-Can-Eat & Drink wristbands! We chowed down on cheeseburgers, hot dogs & chicken sandwiches, along with chips, soda & above all else, WATER! It was HOT! After the sun went down, it was a little more tolerable, and we didn't have to douse ourselves. We got there after the game started so we missed out on the free bobblehead giveaway, darn! And this year they didn't limit you to one food item at time, so we loaded up before we went to our seats. The game was none too exciting being an A club and most players were batting less than .200, but the inter-inning activities were fun, with races and free t-shirts. We ended up losing 3-2 anyway.

There were over one thousand people at the event. They had a band as well as a great selection of music. We had a nice view of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty as well as meeting some nice people. The ball park is walking distance from the ferry. Yes, the ferry is free, well maintain, about 30 minutes ride from NYC, and you can enjoy sight seeing especially the statute of liberty.
