Went for a cricket inauguration event . Loved the ground . Lots of space .. lots of seats.. good to see cricket being played here .. parking was crazy ! The ground doesn't have a parking spot and there are parking outside , but no clear indication if it was the ground parking or the hotel/university parking. I did t want to get charged for illegal parking. I hence had to drive a few minutes to get to a closed parking garage . No machines here . Had to pay online using a PayByPhone app. Took me 30 mins end to end for parking . Food was expensive inside : tasted ok. Not that good . Make sure you eat outside before coming to the ground . Overall it was a good experience for the event , but parking/food wasn't that good.. read more

Free parking. An intimate venue. And baseball. How much better can it get? When I travel during summer, I take in baseball games ... many of them of the Minor League or independent league variety. This team -- from the players to the ticket-takers -- doesn't disappoint. There's not a bad seat in the house, and the tickets are cheaper than a movie theater. There are plenty of picnic areas and umbrella tables along the concourse. No worries though, as you can still hear the umpire calling balls and strikes. I've had colder stadium beer and better ballpark hot dogs, but I certainly went back for seconds. Oh, and you're never more than 15-20 yards from a bathroom. Yogi Berra Stadium is the home of the New Jersey Jackals, a member of the CanAm (Canadian-American) independent league. The rosters of these teams are comprised mostly of players who are trying one last time to make it to the big leagues. Several players have made it as high as AA ball, but were released for one reason or another. In other words, the quality of baseball being played here is good ... I'd say between A and AA. If I lived around these parts, I'd be a Jackals regular for sure. For the people who do live within 20 minutes of this place (and there are many), oh how fortunate they are. read more

Finally got to some NJ Jackals games here, after having it on my 'things to do' list for many years. The stadium is small/intimate but very nice, and there isn't a bad seat in the house! Ticket prices are quite reasonable and the staff members are friendly. Parking is free and the lots don't get too crowded, because the park almost never comes even close to a sell out. Food is basic ball park stuff like cheeseburgers ($4.75) and hot dogs ($3.00). That's way below MLB pricing, but still a bit higher than I expected for 'no name' grub. No Nathan's or Sabrett here, folks! It's also worth noting, that unless you go on 'Thirsty Thursdays' (when Yuengling and 'Girls' Light are a buck), the beer prices are crazy. A pint of macro-swill will run you $6.75 and a pint of craft beer is $10.00 which is ridiculous, so I passed on any frosty libations. As for the level of play, it's competitive and entertaining. Some of the players' abilities will surprise you. (Last time I was there, the Jackals starting pitcher took a no-no into the 9th against the Cuban National Team, giving the Cubans their first loss in the USA on this trip, which is their first back since 1960.) The Jackals manager also likes to kick dirt at the amateurish Umpires that make bad calls more often than they should. Great stuff! They also have a lot of fan contests between the innings, so be prepared that these games last MUCH longer than most MLB games. That being said, most fans stay 'til the end. The only bad thing I can say is that there's a fan that sits in section FF that annoyingly plays the bugle constantly during every game. Sparingly, it would be fine, but it's non-stop! Taps every time there's a strike out, reveille for every hit, etc. Take a breather, pal! Will definitely be back, especially when the Jacks go up against well respected International teams as they did a few times this year. If you love baseball (or have kids that do) it's a great way to spend a few hours. read more

If you are going for quality baseball, luxury seating, and gourmet food you've come to the wrong establishment. If you are seeking an in-expensive, deep fried, kid friendly night out Jack the Jackal will seat you now. Tickets are 8 bucks, and you can pretty much sit where you like as it is NEVER sold out. Specials run through the summer on specific days; Thursdays being dollar beers and Saturdays being fireworks which are the most popular. Food is standard concession fare and is resonably priced. The baseball is certainly not professional but fun to watch all the same. Great for families with kids as they have a kid zone off of right field with a bounce house and other little games. Most kids spend their time rolling down the large hill and crashing into the fence at the bottom which at times is more entertaining then the game itself. Always a blast! read more

Cheap food and beer ($1 colors light, colors original, yuengling and yuengling lights on Thursdays) You can stand by the picnic tables the whole game and enjoy full views of everything. The people who run this stadium are complete trash. I was a vendor for an event they had they they overcharged for a sub par event. But that's not where my problem is. After the event they pretty much held us captive for two hours due to an unorganized system.I had to leave, I had a newborn at home that I needed to feed. I told one of the employees this and he snidely commented that we all have families and I should relax. So I sat and waited to leave for another thirty minutes and started to get a little choked up due to me now being three hours late to get home to my child. The man came up to my window and saw me crying and started berating me screaming at me, his exact words were "you should have F*cking hired someone to do your job if you have baby at home"! This man was shaming me for making a living and having a child! I am not the first vendor to be screamed at my these animals, they have lost several vendors throughout the years due to their unprofessional attitudes. I knew they were a*sholes but to be berated because I had to get home to my newborn is beyond inappropriate. read more

Located on the campus of Montclair University. This is a minor league or independent ? league team which last night played Trois Rivieres of Canada and the Jackals came from behind and won! Lots of fun, lots of contests for kids between innings as well as the occasional ball going into the stands and fun seeing you gets it.....there were fireworks set to music after the game and they were really good! The food was typical stadium food being ice cream, funnel cakes, hot dogs, burgers of different sorts, chicken fingers, fries. However, a veggie burger was also available as was grilled chicken which my hubby got. Sodas, water, and also wine and beer (domestic and imported) were available. Not expensive at all and a great place to spend a summer evening.....also, they threw out tee shirts here and there through the night...... read more

After attending Montclair State University for four years, and knowing that the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League played there for ten, I finally decided to attend a baseball game at Yogi Berra Stadium last night, June 1st, 2009. As you enter the complex, which is built into a natural bowl, you get a wonderful view from behind home plate, and you overlook the entire facility. The concourse is wide open with plenty of room to avoid the endless stream of running children, several vendors flank the outer-sides of the concourse on both the third and first base sides, and large, clean bathrooms are easy to find, directly behind home plate. There is a large gift shop, which is reasonably priced, housed in the downstairs portion of the Yogi Berra Museum, directly behind the first base (visitor's) dugout. And reasonably priced seems to be the mantra of the stadium. Most food will cost anywhere between $2 and $5, which includes usual ballpark fare including hot dogs, pizza, pretzels, and burgers. Beer is sold from the bottle at $5, in a 12 oz. cup for $5, and in a quart sized cup for $7. The seats themselves are very close to the action. The $10 box seats spanning the sections from dugout to dugout are the closest most people will ever sit to home plate in their lives, and the $8 reserved seats down the foul lines are close enough to hear the snap of the pitch as it hits the catcher's glove. $5 overflow general admission is also available down the right field line, but only when the box and reserved seats are sold out. There is also one luxury suite, located above the box seats on the third base line, reserved for major league scouts and Yogi Berra himself. From any seat in the ballpark, the sightlines are fair to good. The Jackals host many special events, including "Two for Tuesdays," where you receive one free ticket for every ticket you purchase, "Thirsty Thursdays," where 12 oz. sodas and beer costs $1, and fireworks displays after every Saturday night home game. Jack the Jackal, the team mascot, makes his way around the stadium frequently, taking pictures, signing autographs, and bringing smiles to kids aged 6 to 60. read more

A great way to spend a night with the kids or a date with cheap tickets, good food and no bad seats. If you want to catch a foul ball, this is the place to go. Every game I've been to, theres been at least 2 or 3 times where theres been a foul ball within a few rows of me. Pay attention though as they come fast, and wait till the end of the inning to check your phone! Fireworks every saturday home game and its always a good show. These games can run long though, so if its on a work night, most leave halfway through. read more

Great family-friendly baseball experience. The concessions are varied and plentiful (by ballpark standards), and the NJ Jackals do a nice job with in-game entertainment. It's very conveniently located for folks in northern NJ, and the ticket prices are reasonable compared to, say, going to the movies, and a downright steal when compared to taking your young family to a MLB game. Saturday night games are followed by a fireworks show, the caliber of which is truly major league. If you have young kids and like baseball, this is a no-brainer. Go, go, go! read more

On the real you can get cheap beers here. The baseball is aight, I prolly could have played for them if I didn't quit baseball in JR high to concentrate on my christian rockband fulltime. I once threw a foul ball back to the ump and he said., "Look at the arm on this kid, sign him up." But Im a slave to the music. Normally I like the jackals games. However the concession stands have become terrible. Visited the concession stand next to the beer garden in the first base side and was charged 5 bucks for a funnel cake the size of my palm. Literally this thing was only about 4 inches in diameter. When my wife complained about it, the kids begins the counter couldn't give a damn. Right next to the counter was another funnel cake stand selling normal ones or a dollar more. All the draft beer was gone from the concession on the third base side as well. The food here has gotten really bad. They used to give you a decent amount of food, but tonight I ordered chicken strips and got 3 small ones when last year there were 5. Yogi Berra stadium has become a rip off. read more

Attend a recent Saturday night Jackals game at the stadium and needless to say will not be going back again this season. We use to enjoy going but under the new owner it has gone way down hill. I would have given 1 and half stars as possible. First the concessions. The sausage and peppers and garlic fries are gone which was the best food there. The stand has been replaced by a gelato stand from an outside vendor who shows up a few innings in and then runs out. There is no other place to get ice cream. There use to be several. The speed of the con session stands is horrendous. Almost 2 innings waiting on line with a regular size Saturday crowd. Plus only 1 person working the beer line leaving a long wait all night. Then they added this band that was not very good and way to loud. Plus the tennis ball throw after the game had many less prizes available. But probably the worst change was not having the race between hot hot, mustard, and Ketchup they always had. Plus Jack the Jackal was hardly involved. All this and raised ticket prices also. Though the Fireworks were still as good as ever. Not near the fun time in the ball park that is use to be. read more

Went to a Jackals game last night. Horribly disappointed! We go multiple times every season but not any more. They used to be so much more entertaining & engaging between innings. They still did some but not like they used to. Jack the Jackal not as involved. No tshirts thrown into the crowd. On to the concessions. Prices have gone up to ridiculous prices. They think they are Yankee Stadium! Besides the mediocre food, the wait was unbelievable. Minimum 2-3 innings waiting on line! The sound system, you couldn't even hear 1/2 the time. So sad because it was always a great family night out. Not anymore. I hope they get their act together again read more
