This dojo, Kyoshi Herman and all of the staff are incredible. At first my son started at age 5, after his dad died suddenly. It was naturally very upsetting and he had a lot of emotions to deal with, especially at that young age, which is difficult. Kyoshi Herman was so kind to him and still is. He helps him get through those humps with his emotion and teaches him to channel them in a positive, productive way. Now my 5 year old twin daughters attend as well. They love it. They come home proud of their belts and about all of the moves they learn. They also learn great lessons like help mom around the house and don't wait until you're asked. Invaluable! They also have camps for days off and fun events like Nerf Wars and movie nights. Don't skip this place! read more

This is not fast food karate like that the franchise chain that I won't name. My daughter is in the little dragon class, and she loves it. Kyoshi Herman and all the teachers are the absolute best! They are knowledgeable, compassionate, and playful but serious when they need to be. It is the perfect balance of fun and structured. They not only teach karate, but they focus on life skills like meditation, discipline, working together, and taking on challenges. The older students that help with the younger ones demonstrate the familial community cultivated in this dojo. read more

Can't say enough of Kyoshi Herman and the dojo. I switched my daughter from another dojo to NGK for a number of reasons. I will not name nor criticize them but I will say NGK was better suited for my daughter. When my younger son was ready I signed him up as well. That being said my review is for the younger students. He has an adult class but I have not witnessed it but I can say that they appear to be a dedicated group as I've seen them come in early for their class waiting for my daughter's class to end. He teaches martial arts that are practical for today's environment. The fundamentals and the techniques are taught in all the young age groups. He shows the moves and also explains the why's. In addition, he provides insight to the younger students on bullying and how to behave in an active shooter situation. He provides the voice that our kids will listen to when they don't listen to us. My main goal for my daughter was learn self defense for when the situation arises. That meant sparring needed to be part of the training, not just punching and kicking in the air. The students put on their sparring gear and put to practice what they're taught. Of course, your child is not required to spar. And lastly, his supporting cast is top notch. There was never any question of those assisting him while in class or in his absence. Most importantly his wife, Krystal, has been very helpful and accommodating since day one. read more

If I could give NGK 10 stars, I would. I don't even know where to start. My son started maybe 2 years ago at age 3. He loved it from day 1. We were offered a one week trial period and decided right then and there, that we need not look further for great karate instruction. Kyoshi Herman and Sensai Kathy instilled a culture of discipline and fairness in my son. The dojo is run so professionally largely due to Kristal's meticulous attention to detail. But it's not just that. You're not treated like just another student or just another parent. You're treated like family. After day 1, they know your name and everything about you. I've never met people who care more for their "clients" than the family at NGK. I'm all over the place, writing this post in a way that probably is not being articulated properly. If you're looking for your new workout place, New Generation Karate is the place. I'm not into karate, but my daughter had been coming here for a while and they started offering kickboxing. I've been looking for a group exercise for a while and I decided to join. Let me tell you. First off their new location is great! They moved from Hempstead turnpike into the shopping center where king kullen is, right off new Hyde park road and tulip avenue in franklin square. There is plenty of parking. The inside is newly finished. Awesome motivational words. This place is stacked with equipment. They have items to buy (shirts, tanks, bags, boxing wraps, etc) The owner Dave Herman is awesome! It's such a great guy and always makes you feel super special, like you're a good buddy of his. His staff is super friendly and often offer words of advise on techniques. The kickboxing instructors are awesome. They have energy, they motivate, and mix it up every time, with familiar moves so you perfect your technique. They have their own unique teaching styles but completely fall in line with the dojo's teachings. I'm really happy they started offering kickboxing and at an extremely reasonable price. We came here for a birthday party. The sensei is truly an amazing teacher. He did a great job making the kids laugh and have fun while instilling values and basic principles of karate. My grandson loved it so much that Im going to end up signing him up. The place is clean and in a great location. New Generation Karate is excellent. The staff is experienced and attentive. It is a black belt school. Sensei Herman and Sempai Cathy are wonderful with the children. The children learn karate, all the while improving their self-esteem, listening skills and more. My four year old has completely come out of his shell, is no longer being bullied at school and can count to 10 in Japanese! All in all, it is a wonderful experience for both the child and the parent. I highly recommend New Generation Karate. read more

Excellent environment to learn self defense for all ages. My kids have learned so much here- martial arts skills, confidence, and great life lessons in general. I've been most pleased with the addition of active shooter training and how that has been adapted to their level- how to find cover, remain quiet, follow direction once help arrives.. awareness without raising anxiety. It's a credit to the all of the Senseis and Kyoshi Herman, how many students continue to train here for years.
