We found the constant reframing throughout the process to be deeply frustrating and, at times, emotionally harmful. Concerns about unequal treatment, broken trust, and unresolved hurt were repeatedly redirected toward reconciliation, acceptance, and our willingness to move forward relationally. Over time, this created a dynamic where it felt like the burden increasingly shifted onto us to "get past" issues that we did not believe had actually been repaired. Instead of feeling supported in working through the underlying problems, we often left conversations feeling misunderstood, minimized, or blamed for not being ready to normalize relationships that still felt fundamentally unresolved. Looking back, we wish we had understood earlier that the process was less neutral mediation and more relationally oriented advising. That distinction materially affected the experience and outcome for us. For people navigating deep family-business conflict, favoritism, exclusion, or longstanding trust issues, I would strongly encourage getting very clear upfront about whether the goal is accountability and structural repair first, or reconciliation and acceptance first. This woman wrote a report for my ex in a contentious custody battle based off of less than 15 minutes talking with me and made it appear as if we had had 2 full sessions. I don't even recall signing paperwork. She attempted to hold therapy that other therapists would later say was not emotionally safe to have before terminating their sessions. Additionally, I don't know where my ex found her, but she was very one sided from the go which is why I left the session so early in the first place. I'm giving her a 1 star simply because her license appears to have been valid and she had an office and because zero wasn't an option. I think this woman probably causes more damage than she heals. I noticed in her history section on this site, as of the date I'm writing this, that she states that the people who contribute "defamatory" reviews are using maladaptive behavior and not accepting responsibility for the harm they cause their families which is gaslighting at its finest (although I'm not licensed, I read a lot and it doesn't take an expert to recognize). I would think twice about using this woman's services. I can assure you that there are much more experienced therapists in this same area of therapy that do not have the negative and very telling reviews that this woman has. I would also like to add that I have had full legal and physical custody of my child since about the same time she wrote her report. read more

Kalli Matsuhashi is a gem. She is an incredible family psychologist! She works diligently to heal children who are alienated from one of their parents. Most, or all, of her negative reviews are from the unhealthy parent, who is manipulating and turning the children against the healthy, unconditionally loving parent. I would NOT recommend Kali. The agreement that she makes you sign states that neither parent is allowed to share therapy notes with the court because they are private and lack context. She imposes penalties for this in the contract. When my daughter's mother did use them (ultimately to remove my parenting time entirely), Kali did absolutely NOTHING to remedy the situation. If you attend counseling here, please know that your therapy records can be used in court by the other party and Kali will do nothing to hold that party accountable. She allowed these notes to be weaponized without context and did nothing but discharge us both as clients. My daughters mother disappeared with her and I haven't seen her in about 3 years (the opposite of what should have happened). She is now estranged from her two little brothers as well. I believe I paid a few thousand dollars for these services. I really should have taken direct legal action against her but at that point ran out of money. Dr. Jane McNaught is much smarter. Avoid Kali until she actually protects her patients. read more

Our family had the great misfortune of dealing with Kalli for reunification therapy. The reunification counselors that were suggested to us were all booked out for months. Not surprisingly, Kalli had openings. Kalli was supposed to help our child build a relationship with their father, but she just made it worse. Kalli is unorganized, very defensive, and easily offended. I can't believe how often our discussions were about how Kalli was offended by something. She has an opinion of how things should be and is very rigid in trying to force her opinion on others. Kalli caused my child to feel like they were at fault for the problems with their father. We almost had to get another counselor to manage the anxiety Kalli caused them. She in no way helped improve the relationship. Our child agreed to spend time with their father only to be able to stop seeing Kalli. Our parenting consultant and my therapist were both familiar with Kalli and not at all surprised by the stories we shared about her. Please spare your family the pain of dealing with Kalli. read more

If you care about your child's mental health and physical safety, DO NOT use this therapist under any circumstances. Kalli's favorite method of practice is manipulation. She will say anything and everything during sessions to keep you coming back (and paying her), and then straight-up deny statements or claim to have "misspoken" when called out on them. Her top priority is scheduling sessions as often and as quickly as possible, with no regard to your child's physical, mental, or emotional concerns. After one 30-minute session, our daughter came out of her office bawling and refusing to ever speak to her again. She called our daughter a liar, accused us of manipulating her, and told our daughter that her concerns "were not important and not part of therapy." She constantly referenced a court document with our ELEVEN year old, telling her that "she had no choice and had to keep working with her, no matter how she felt". Our daughter cried the entire drive home, telling us that she was belittled, accused of lying, and told that she needed to just say and do what the therapist told her. Kalli insisted on referring to the birth mother as "mom" despite our child telling her how uncomfortable it made her numerous times. Kalli also told all adults involved manipulative statements that served no purpose but to cause friction and distrust, making successful co-parenting virtually impossible. She would regularly tell one side one thing, and when it was addressed as a group, deny the statements or claim that we "misunderstood" her. She encouraged manipulative, unethical behavior between parents and attempted to pit them against each other. When we asked for billing summaries, it took almost two weeks to receive them, which was very concerning. She was constantly "forgetting" what we had discussed in previous sessions and did not do her research even though we had provided her with detailed files outlining the history of our case. She booked sessions back-to-back and never had "extra time" if we needed to ask questions or clarify things. I could go on and on. After our awful experience, we did some Googling and found out that she often uses hypnosis-type therapies which is scary when working with children, as this was never discussed with us! We also found her listed on "Kink Awareness Professionals" and after reading her bio, it is clear that she will take on any and every sort of "client" if it means an extra paycheck. read more

She was very thorough, neutral, consistent, empathetic, and very responsive to our children/ family needs. She helped us through and out of a very tough situation that I only believe her strength and therapy style could have. I would highly not recommend this therapist to counsel your children in post divorce situations. Kalli is my ex-husbands personal therapist; he talked me into taking our kids there throughout our divorce. I was iffy about it, being that she was he's personal therapist, but I figured most professionals were neutral. Our kids had their each own therapist, that their father was hardly involved in and they would call him and request meetings that he wouldn't show for. My ex made it sound like he would be getting therapy with the kids, with Kalli to work on their relationship. I was wrong, he was trying to stack a case for court. Kalli told my oldest daughter that I sounded like a toxic parent (I've never spoken to her) A professional therapist would never talk to someone's minor child like that when the said parent isn't there. I don't know what my ex-husband said about me, but he likes the tell people I am crazy. (He whom physically and emotionally abused me and the kids, who was a drug and severe alcoholic, whom cheated several times and models poor relationships and values to the kids to this day. He thinks he's stable because he is sober and lives with a women that he is engaged to(4 months) he was dating her out-of-state while he lived with another women here for over a year. Great man and good example) We are headed back to court to adjust child support and here we go again with the "I am the unfit parent." Yeah ok.. Once again I found out Kalli was in my son's ear this time and he was upset that she was portraying me as a parent that wasn't good enough for him and he should go live with his father. I feel that her ally lays with the person paying and she didn't put my kids first and is unprofessional; it's odd and kind of scary that three other therapist (one whom has been working with our daughter for 10 years and is a doctor) do not agree with her opinions and says that isn't an effective way to therapy. In the future I will only go to a neutral therapist. Be mindful about what is being said to your children behind closed doors, my child will not be back. Kalli has been my therapist for several years. She is undeniably one of the very best I have ever worked with. She has never judged me and has always treated me with respect and dignity. Originally I talked to her for recurrent depression and relationship problems. It was exceptionally helpful. She listened and empathized with how I was feeling, and then very gently and respectfully helped me challenge some of the beliefs I had about myself and other people. She never told me what to do with my relationship. I never felt like she had an agenda. Instead she helped me figure out for myself what I wanted, allowing me to own the process and the results. She patiently listened to endless internal debates, and when I ultimately decided not to continue the relationship she was supportive. My depression improved drastically and I was able to reduce the sessions to every six weeks or so. Kalli has never pressured me to schedule more sessions than I need, but she has always been willing to make more time for me when I do need it. I recently had a very traumatic event and Kalli has been unbelievably helpful. She's kept me from going completely crazy. She's been willing to schedule extra sessions as I've needed them. She's patiently listened to my story over and over. She has offered guidance and advice when I ask, but is never pushy. Choosing a therapist is a very personal decision. It takes a good match between the personality of the therapist and the client. Kalli has been perfect for me. She is calm, kind, respectful and knowledgeable. She is very empathetic and non-judgemental. I'm very grateful that I get to work with her and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone. read more
