This was at least our 2nd time here, I remembered it was ok the last time, and thought we would try it again. - I wish I hadn't, now I'm in a lousy mood from crappy food, I was really looking forward to some good chinese. Our egg rolls were undercooked and mushy. All of the chicken dishes we got had an off taste. The fried rice, wasn't really fried... It was just rice, it was sticky, mushy and bland. Portions seemed a bit small. This was honestly the worst General Toes chicken I've ever had... It just tasted off, and with the bland fried rice, it just made for a lackluster meal The rangoon's were ok... And I got Szechuan beef too - and it was ok also. *sighs* Ok, Ok, Ok. My search has ended! I relunctantly tried New China, located in the Giant shopping center in Middletown, right next to Blockbuster and Midtown Pizza. Boy, am I glad I did. I was about to give up on Harrisburg Chinese restaurants, but this place may just have one of the best takeout Chinese food I have tried anywhere. We got the combination dishes which run from $6.50-$7.50 and include an egg roll. Before I ordered I asked about the Hot & Spicy Beef dish, which wasn't a combo, but I wanted an egg roll, so I didn't get it. They had the beef schzeuan combination so I ended up ordering that, but she gave me the Hot & Spicy Beef combo anyway! They were fast, took less then 10 mintues to make. I was happy leaving needless to say. When i got home, wow. The portions while not huge, definitely is enough to fill you up. But what impressed me was the freshness. The vegetables were crisp. The spices were perfect. The beef was tasty, tender and there was no trace of mystery or fat. I wish I had ordered 2. Even upon opening the carton, you could tell the food was fresh and just different. I dont know what they do differently then the others but this is the only Chinese place I will patronize unless future visits disappoint. I sure hope it's this way everytime. I have lived in Middle town for about 2 years now. I have eaten Asian american here from 3 of the local restaurants (lin gardens and a forgetful restaurant inside of the giant food). This restaurant food quality it very good and they have never messed up my order (knock on wood). It is more expensive in price than the other two but not by much. Kudos on their rice flavoring! The dishes i recommend from them: 1. Hunan Chicken with white rice! 2. For what this restaurant is and the price you pay, it is a fantastic deal. The food is as close to authentic as you will get on the East Coast. The atmosphere is quite authentic except much, much cleaner. I have read several comments about the serving staff being indifferent or perhaps even rude. Well, get over it. You wanted authentic; you've got authentic. That is exactly the way they behave in China. They don't fawn over you, or smile, or act happy. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY! Awesome restaurant for indoor eating or on the go. I'm usually always taking food with me but they have quite the spot in Middletown which is located in the same district as Giant. They have a mounted television that displays chinese shows which is beast mode only because you never really see chinese broadcasting where we live. On the surface, New China is your average Chinese takeout place. I give it 5 stars because the quality is consistently good. It's takeout, but it's *good* takeout. The service is always friendly. I live about 15 minutes away and delivery is usually quick, 30-45 minutes (up to an hour at peak times). I've never had any issues with incorrect orders. If you go in, make sure to check out the menu on the whiteboard. They have some more "authentic" Chinese dishes there. Some of them probably aren't to Western tastes, but some of them are amazing. New China was the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been too. I ordered general tso's chicken with fried rice and an egg roll. Instead of serving me chicken, they served me cat. Yes you heard me right. I received general tso's kitten. They also served me an egg roll with a BITE out of it. Not only that, but my delivery was 45 minutes late which is what really pissed me off. After driving to the store and nicely asking for a refund, they told me I was a liar and that I had bitten the egg roll, refused claims of serving me cat, and told me never to come back to their restaurant. 0 stars. read more

Never ever will I eat at the China Wall in Middletown by Giant...after paying nearly $25 for food and waiting for it to be done...had one of the cooks come out and eat at table...I could hear him licking his lips smacking his mouth together while he ate which is so disgusting and then finally getting me and my little boys food only to take a few bites and have to listen to screaming,yelling confrontation between 4 of the workers....I get indigestion now due to surgery all the time but this made it all the worse...Who wants to pay that much for a meal and feel stressed out while eating,,,unbelievable! Was my first time eating there food and eating it in the restaurant. I went back to wash my hands and said something to the women saying how I dont know what they were saying but it turned me off so much had to walk out without eating much because my stomach was so upset...not to mention they had a door opened up near bathroom...someone sleeping in there with a bed like someone living there..place stunk when walking in and very dirty. What little food I ate was okay...Not the best...certainly made a lasting impression...first impressions mean the most not only by your food, cleanliness, atmosphere and customer service but your demeanor especially when people dine in and especially with children...AWFUL! Thought it was ok for a bit. I ordered a couple times. I wanted to like it because I would be here for a number of years. People warned me but despite their warning I thought I would like to see for myself, but I am done. I prefer places that respect their customers. My friends are completely right. There is a reason they are where they are in a business sense. With Middletown growing and they are preferring to upset consumers rather than help when they are in the wrong says a lot. If you do not mind your order being wrong and given attitude when you politely and justifiably complain, go for it. So many other asian places near here have way better quality and customer service. Walk into the run down dump next to Giant and you will understand even more. You will find its "dining room" devoid of customers even at the busiest of hours and has storage, dirt, and darkness in the dining room. We as local residents deserve better. If New China does not appreciate the customer base it has the potential to have and treats customers like this I would love for all locals to join in ignoring this place till they clean up their act or hopefully leave and allow another business that appreciates the town to move in. I wish this was not the case and hate to run down a business but New China does not deserve any of our business and they are taking the place of other potential businesses and families that love their clients and can grow their business and help grow the town. It is time to forget this place and allow them to move somewhere else so we can allow someone else the opportunity to benefit us all. Out of curiousity I decided to check out the health inspections of New China (436 E. Main St, Middletown, PA, 17057). Even I was surprised. They have aleady ruined me or anyone I know as a customer, but I thought that they must have some sort of track record of being a respectable, sanitary, and infestation free business if they were willing to treat consumers the way they do. I guess I have to say I was surprised. If my business had these violations on public record I would make every effort not to upset loyal customers.
