I don't really like Chinese food. "Ghetto" is really the only place I'll get it from. That being said, I've been patronizing this establishment for literally my entire life. Food: The food is consistently great with lots of options! I recommend (whatever protein) with garlic and curry sauce with mixed vegetables, lo mein, or a sweet and sour dish. Service: Ownership recently changed, and I must say, the new owners are WONDERFUL! Very kind, accommodating, and they take the time to remember familiar faces. I drove from Virginia to eat at this ky restaurant. The food was awful. The sweet n sour shrimp was ALL BREADING with a small tough strip of shrimp in the middle of massive breading. The spring veg roll were a mouth full of grease. Veg Lo Mein greasy. The bill was $52. and we drove a long distance and arrived home to this horrible meal. We threw it away. The Chinese food here is as good or better than any I've had in Lexington/Knoxville/Louisville. We're lucky to have this in Middlesboro. The Gen. Tso chicken is always crispy and flavorful unlike half of the other Chinese restaurants I've been to. I would be careful with what you order from New China. I ordered the General Tso's chicken and confirmed with the restaurant that it was white meat chicken since I have a dark meat chicken intolerance. After eating half of my meal, I realized the majority of the dish was dark meat and there were a few white meat pieces scattered in there. I felt really sick a few hours later. I am disappointed in this experience because food allergies should be taken more seriously..I wouldn't recommend. read more

"Ghetto Chinese" Looks ghetto from the outside and inside. Everything about this place is ghetto. But the food is actually pretty good, way better then King Buffet and that other Chinese place in Middlesboro mall. I got the shrimp fried rice and it was delicious. It tastes even better with the hot sauce. I loved the "Cheese Wonton". I asked them to make it EXTRA spicy, and it wasn't spicy at all (not even a hint of spice). Also, it's pricey for a Chinese place. I spent $23 for two people. In Chicago the same thing would cost around $14-$16. But it's the south and good tasting food like this is rare. I'd come back... The location itself may have you questioning if you should eat here or just back out and head somewhere else but I assure you, you can't go wrong with just about anything you order. Termed "Ghetto Chinese" by locals, New China Express is set back away from the main commercial strip in Middlesboro. From the appearance of this place from the parking lot, it looks a little sketchy. Even when you get inside, with its faded pictures of Chinese food on the wall and children's toys stacked in the corner, it looks a little sketchy. This is a cash or check only restaurant so come prepared. There are tables that you can dine-in at New China Express but I wouldn't recommend it, unless you want to also hang out with the family that runs the place and their children who run around the dining room area. Despite the appearance and atmosphere, the food is pretty good. I got the General Tso's chicken dinner special, which for $7.25 was tasty and you receive a generous portion. This General Tso's was nothing special and overall I still prefer King Buffet in Middlesboro. Look past the aesthetics and get some food. It's never failed to satisfy. It is hot, flavorful and inexpensive. My favorite is the sesame chicken, which is served by with fried rice and an egg roll. We have been going here for several years and used to really like it. However, the last few times, they have eliminated vegetables out of their lo mein and put very little meat or seafood, now it's mainly noodles. Their egg rolls have been hard not soft and also only have barely one shrimp. The shrimps are small and do not look fresh. They have taken mushrooms out of the lo mein and I didn't see any carrots or other vegetables, just a few little sprouts. Their health department rating was low as well and bathroom is a little scary. I really want to give them another chance because they are great people.
