After a long drive visiting Knoxville, TN we were craving something quick, comforting, and familiar--and China Town Restaurant hit the spot perfectly. We arrived close to closing and were warmly welcomed by the friendliest and funny gentleman, which already made us feel at home. The place is simple and a bit old-school, but clean and well kept. I had the Shrimp Egg Fu Young and my cousin ordered the Chicken with Black Bean Sauce--both were freshly made, flavorful, and super filling. Portions were generous enough that we had leftovers for the next day! Nothing fancy, just really good, classic Chinese food and a nice break from all the Southern dishes in the area. Tried a couple of dishes from the lunch menu - the Szechuan chicken is marked as spicy but it was more sweet than anything else, there was also not a lot of meat in there. Their beef dishes are pretty good. Egg fried rice lacked flavor and very little egg. The spicy cabbage was really good, albeit the greasiness. I would definitely give this restaurant no stars if possible. So my family decided with Chinese and we found this restaurant online since it had good reviews. So ordered online, got my food to go, arrived back at the place we were all staying and got everything out of the bag. I noticed the rice with soy sauce that hasn't even been mixed thoroughly. (I provided pictures) this was like those minute rice you microwave. I expected fresh cooked rice!! That was only the first part and the general tsos wasn't even cooked properly and did not taste like a general tso! All of my entrees I order was completely disgusting! (The pu pu platter, the beef & broccoli, chicken etc) Nothing was cooked right and Im really sure everything was reheated and was sitting out!! This is the very first Chinese restaurant I've ever eaten at that I hated so much of their food. I wish they would shut down!!! I don't even know how this restaurant has such high reviews. Very disappointed with $85 carry out order. Chicken with broccoli was slimy and went into trash. Kid's meal of chicken nuggets was too tough to chew and went into trash. This place was excellent, as you would expect for a place that has been here since the 80s. Now mind you, you CAN tell it's been here that long...but that's part of the charm. Firstly, let me say that the drive thru was a cool novelty. The only time I've ever got Chinese drive thru is from Panda Express (which I imagine is pretty much the way anybody reading this has done it). Driving up and ordering was fun. So, on to the rest...food was great! I got General Tso's chicken and it was really good. Very crispy and very flavorful. I had a good drive back to the house I was staying at and it was still fresh and warm when I got there. Service was abrupt but decent. Guy popped his head out the window, asked what I wanted, then disappeared. He came back when my food was ready and that was it. Oh: tip for tourists! It seems common down here for you to get brown rice...but it seems more like white rice with some soy sauce...lightly fried maybe? The fried rice is white rice with a whisper of soy sauce, the chicken lo mein was pretty good but tasted a bit oily, the general tso's chicken shouldn't be eaten at all because it tastes like it was cook in a dishwasher and had this slimy sauce. The chicken fried rice had 0 flavor and even the soy sauce packets aren't even salty. The fortune cookies taste about 3 years expired and the crab rangoons are not crab rangoons. My order included soup, I chose the hot and sour from a selection of three soups, which I thought was nice. The platter was pretty good. The ribs on the platter were meh. My main dish arrived. Moving from the San Francisco Bay Area, it has been difficult for sure to find an authentic Chinese restaurant. Lest I seem snobbish, keep in mind that San Francisco has one of the largest Chinese communities in the US. Chinatown is a densely packed area, with 126,200 people, seven times larger in density than the rest of San Francisco. Needless to say, there is no better place in the US for authentic Chinese food. We have been here for 8 years and all Chinese restaurants we have tried failed to make the grade. We gave up trying and resigned ourselves to the fact that we would probably not be able to find authentic Chinese food. Today we were in Sevierville and decided to look for Chinese restaurants. This one popped up on Yelp with a 4.5 stars and a 97 health department score. We decided to try it out. We arrived around 4:30 and were the only ones in the restaurant. A friendly waiter told us we could sit anywhere we wanted. He took our drink orders and we began to peruse the menu. Nice offerings, reasonable prices and later we found out -- ample serving sizes. We chose the Hot & Sour soup for an appetizer and it was delicious. Just like we remember from San Francisco. We chose the 5 Sauce Crispy Ginger Shrimp to share. It came with an order of brown rice. This dish was sumptuous! The sauce was spot on and the crispiness of the shrimp was delightful. The small bits of ginger were the crowning jewel of this dish. Needless to say, this was the first authentic Chinese food we have had in 8 years! Bravo! I would wish the rating score would have allowed me to rate 4.5, but it doesn't, so thus the 4 for a score. The reason I did not give it a 5 is because the restrooms are less than sparkling and the appearance from the outside is tired. Some sleeves-up deep cleaning could make this a 5 in my mind. The egg rolls tasted like they were made with spoiled cabbage--not the good kind of spoiled cabbage (kimchi) either. The bad kind you find at the bottom of your fridge after you swear you're going to eat more vegetables one week but it never happens. I ordered Kan Shaw chicken. My wife ordered General Tso's Chicken. We received two microwave dinners of something resembling General Tso's, fried to death with a terrible sugary sauce and five little sad broccoli florets on the side. The server then told me, "that is not Chinese food, it is for American. Are you Chinese( second time he asked me. " I was speechless, Ya, my girl is ABC and she wanted to order it. So what? I found it not only annoying but funny and "funny" at the same time, the server do not know how to serve, and talk. Whatever, I changed my idea and order the spicy boil beef instead. Food came, Neither the sweet sour shrimp nor Spicy boil beef look good, rather than the flavor. It is K, I was hungry and we started eating. The same server came and asked if everything is good, I was like it is ok. Then he said, "you don't like it?" I explained the broth of my beef dish looks weird and it looked like slushy, perhaps the corn starch was too much or cook too long(from my experience) I said it in a way that try not to offend him coz the server seems quite rude already. He left. I thought that was the end and I can just eat the food fill up my stomach that's it. Minutes later, omg the owner came and asked about the dish, and I said the same thing to the owner. Guess what, first thing he asked me was the same question as the server did, " are you Chinese?" Holly Molly God help me, I have such a freaking asian face if not Chinese face, but what's the point you guys ask me that, for the third time? Whatever, AGAIN, I told him IN CHINESE about the broth, not bad but it can be better and I even explained to the owner how. Owner seems did not take my saying but replied, "oh the chef will be unhappy if I tell him that". I said, "depends on what quality of the food you wanna provide and what level the chef wants to be, sometimes improvement must come with suggestions. (I was not even criticizing even tho I could). then he left and went back to the kitchen. The kitchen door was not even close fully and I can hear him talked loudly to someone inside loudly, "nothing wrong." OMG. To this point, I was absuloted speechless. Just FYI, I was born and raise in China from age 0 to 15, went to Singapore for 7 years then came to the U.S 8 years ago. I spend half of my life, near two decades or so working in the kitchen, professional kitchens includes some michellin star restaurants and ok-high end hotels. But this restaurant, the server, the owner, the food, left me only one thing, leaving a review. I called in an order for Chong Qing Chicken, Twice-Cooked Pork, and pork Za Jing Mien noodles. When I arrived the food still wasn't ready and I had to wait quite a while, but when I finally got it back to the cabin, it was very tasty. The problem is, with the exception of the Twice-Cooked Pork, it wasn't what I ordered. The "Chong Qing Chicken" they gave me was chicken w/ a spicy sauce and peanuts, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, and zucchini. The Za Jing Mien noodles were very thin noodles with strips of pork with vegetables in a light sauce, similar to oyster sauce. So, although the food itself was very good, I had to take off a couple stars because it wasn't what I ordered. read more

We were here for dinner and the Food was alright. Soups were good for the price and the mains looked stunning . We got the schezuan prawn and although it was not the authentic schezuan taste with spices & peppercorns, it tasted good and was great portion for the price. What was disappointing was the 5 spice Chicken dish ,I ordered the dish assuming it would be something savory and spicy and was given this sweet sticky chicken dish that looked and tasted like orange chicken .
