We stopped in here one day on our way through town for a quick snack one afternoon. We had NO idea what to expect but, taking cues from the other cars sitting in the parking lot, we waited our turn. Right away a nice lady came up and was ready to take our order, but we asked for a menu and she said she would be back. She was very friendly and attentive. We order Fried Green Tomatoes, Deep Fried Mushrooms, a Corndog, a Strawberry Shake, a mint Chocolate Shake, and a Hot Fudge Sundae. (We were feeling more than snacky!) Everything was great. I came and sat at the picnic tables under the awning, where the neighborhood cats run around. The double cheeseburgers are amazing! Perfectly grilled with a charred crust that only comes from a burger that's been hand-formed and never frozen. They come stacked with lettuce, tomato, onion, and dripping with cheese. The fries, though not hand-cut, are nice and crispy. It's not worth upgrading to the onion rings - they are not home-made, more like just thawed and deep fried. The Frosty Mug has a large menu considering its size, so they really have something for everyone. Okay, so the Frosty Mug is a staple in Harrogate. It has been around for a long time, and it has cool neon lights on the outside of the building. It has great potential, but I think that they are missing an opportunity to make it all that it could be. When I look at it, I think "DINER!" I wish it was, but unfortunately it is not, and given the slim food selection in Harrogate, a diner would do extremely well in this location, and they could serve all of the same food, just expand upon the menu a bit and offer indoor seating with a breakfast bar. The Frosty Mug's food is good, but honestly, I am all burgered out. Give me an open-faced roast beef sandwich and a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, or a plate of meatloaf, or a huge chef's salad, and I am a happy diner in a diner. The Frosty Mug just has burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and fries. The same as every other place in Harrogate and Middlesboro it seems. We've been to Frosty Mug several times and generally have a good experience however tonight we decided to go over for my MILs birthday dessert so we had 3 cars in our party. We sat there(parked right in front of the building 2 cars in) for 20 minutes and no one came to take our order. Then a car came and parked next to us and they came right out and got their order. Thinking we had just been overlooked we decided to call in our order and after being placed on hold and then being told to give our order we were only able to get one dessert out before we were hung up on. When we saw the rest of our party who had already received their food leave so we decided to call again this time letting them know that we were parked and we were just going to call our order in the woman was very rude and said she would just send someone out. 10 minutes later still no one had come so we finally were able to wave a woman down to take our order only to be told that there were two more ahead of us and it would be another 15 minutes at least. At that rate we would've been sitting there for almost an hour with a two-year-old and a two week old. Usually we prefer giving our business to local businesses- tonight we went to Dairy Queen. read more
