Noodles cooked well and veggies are fresh still have a crunchy bite. The fried rice is meehh. The chicken is the worst. First, let's get the name correct. It is New China 1. Could not find a China 1 in Maps. After comparing the location on Yelp and Maps came up with the right location. The storefront says "New China 1". Now to the review. It is a take out restaurant with seats. No waitress service. Order at the counter and they'll bring your food to you on real plates if you dime in. Owners are friendly. We had the hot and sour soup, wonton soup and the Orange Beef. Soups were great and the orange beef was the most interesting one we've ever had. Usually they are really chewy. This, though, had a light coating and almost melted in your mouth. So surprised by the texture. They asked what level of spice we wanted. Since we were sharing we went with mild. I prefer some heat but the Mrs doesn't. Portion was huge and brought back almost half. Came to China1 as we stayed in the Blue Ridge Mountains 15 minutes away. We got the food take out which I think is the way to go since inside is not pleasing. We got Gyoza, Shrimp Lo Mein and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The Gyoza was the best thing but it was a little overcooked and dry. The Shrimp was good but we did not like the Sweet and Sour Chicken. I had to share what a good experience I had in this restaurant today. We stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for lunch before a hike. We were not expecting much but once we opened the door the smell of fresh food hit us and it smelt amazing! We weren't aware of their buffet but since there were people already waiting for it to start (11AM) we decided to wait a few minutes for it to begin. All of their food was so fresh and tasty! It definitely exceeded our expectations. I wish there was healthier options as much of the food is fried but it was still amazing. read more

This is quite a pleasant surprise to find in the mountains. Under new ownership, gave this place a try. Liked it so much went back for a second time, friendly service and quality of food was consistent. Used their online order service both times. The first time the order was overlooked but they quickly got to work, and during lunch hour they were packed too! Went outside to wait in the car as there wasn't even standing room inside. They ran my order out to me. I didn't even get to drive away and the staff member was running back out to me again thinking I may need cutlery. The man behind the counter is so super friendly and polite. Genuine care for the guests and service with a smile. Most importantly, food. We are fans of Chicken Ho Fun, and it is on point. Also have had the Curry Chicken, full of flavor, white breast meat, broccoli, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, onions and snow peas. Perfect blend of protein and vegetables. The second time added the Salt and Pepper Potatoes and boy were they yummy. Saw a previous comment about pricing not the same, my bill was accurate both times. Ambiance is not there but hopefully that will come over time. Quick note: we took our food over to a local brewery to enjoy. My husband and I wanting Chinese food in Blue Ridge found this little store front place after shopping next door at the grocery store. We know of only two in the community and read reviews on both. We are so glad that most good reviews were directed at China 1. The service was great the food was good and hot and flavors too. We ordered the bento plates and it included a drink and small salad with 3 delicious dumpling as well. We wish the place were bigger for dining in as it is probably more take out in the dinner hours. The fried rice was just OK -- needed onion, egg and sesame oil and should have had some crisping. Biggest surprise was portion size. YUGE! Had their Kung pao chicken combo for dinner. Very good flavor and taste. I enjoyed my meal and had leftovers for lunch the next day. We frequent this restaurant when we are in the area. What you'd expect from a small shopping center Chinese restaurant BUT much better. Nice buffet that is refreshed with hot food every few minutes. Courteous staff not afraid to ask how your food is or if you need anything! Would have to say the best overall oriental food and courtesy in Blue Ridge. WOW! This place. Let me start off by saying that before aid entered the restaurant, the owner a young Asian woman, was holding her crying baby outside of the restaurant screaming at her to shut up. Seriously. Then she started asking people coming the restaurant, "you want baby? You want baby?" I finally make my way inside and she continues screaming at the girl to shut up. First off I want to say... Yelp reviews don't really have enough criteria... That is based on how many reviews of the same establishment, vary in consistency! I'm in the restaurant business and have been for the vast majority of my life. Over thirty some odd years I have had 100s of verbal reviews,some as short as a 1 word praise to a half hour disertación on how this person that I don't know wants to give me there advice on how I can do things better.. Everybody has an opinion you all know how that is? Actually that's how Yelp exists... The problem with this is most reviews are only opinions and very little fact base! Taking all this into consideration to use reviews about food establishments are probably the hardest reviews to understand to use to your advantage to get a good meal...The problem with this is everybody has different standards and knowledge about food...Ambiance assuming you are eating in..Price..Portions..and service...and also Palate..I wish there was some industry standard(anyone can call themselves a Chef)but there really isn't...know one gets denied a business license if the don't have a culinary degree from some cooking school..Remember to some people microwaving is cookinganyway i need to get to the point... Have eaten here twice and enjoyed it both times. Lots of fresh vegetables, great soup and dumplings. Will be back!
