The screening starts from the time you get replies from contractors because they all require upfront fee of around $100 whether you employ or not. I narrowed it down to 3 contractors all with 4-5 star reviews from Yelp. I do have knowledge of HVAC systems, one of them quoted me a ridiculously high cost and lied about the cost and unavailability of the freon in my system, they later reduce the price by $500 the other pretty much the same. Austin from New Age Air immediately started uncovering the unit to access the digital readout located inside the compressor and hooked up his gauges and started explaining in technical terms the reason for the issues with my unit. He offered 3 options of different price ranges to repair it plus the Pros and Cons. This is a very professional company. Our initial visit by Mike was educational. Then on the day of install Daniel and the team were very prompt and courteous. There were some challenges due to wiring and the age of our home, however, the team overcame every challenge. The last wiring challenge was discovered and fixed by Luke. This is my second time using New Age Air and working with Branden and his team. My AC died a few weeks ago and I had to replace the entire system. It was a stressful time getting hit with unexpected expense like that. Called these guys in a pinch when another company wanted to charge my grandmother $21,000 for a new air conditioner. Her system was 10 years old and the warranty had just expired. Imagine that. I knew I needed a second option for her so I got on yelp and did some searching. I talked to Branden who was quick to respond and very friendly. I live in uptown Whittier & on July 10th James actually told me his truck broke down and they'd get me a new appointment for today (day I'm writing this review) July 25th and when he did get here - he totally handled business quickly. I am a current resident at the Aspens Apartments in Riverside. I notified management that I was having problems with my air conditioning making a "thunderous" noise once the unit was engaged. Of course, they were extremely busy, but they still fit me in. My unit is old (1997), and was inspected thoroughly. Branden could have recommended very expensive fixes and I probably would have believed him. He didn't, though. He said the unit was running fine for its age. He recommended the most efficient way to use my AC to get the most cooling power from it, and that was that! read more

Last June 2019 My AC stopped blowing cold air. I called New Age, they came out the next day (business day) and were here for about 45 minutes. They said I had no freon, therefore a leak. This made sense since there is a hissing noise when it shuts off, which is a symptom. They came the next day to check for the leak and didn't find it, but injected sealant saying if the leak is small, it should plug the leak. Of course I also needed freon. He gave me a labor price only. They were in my attic twice at this point. both times I asked them to check the duct to one of the bedroom, I think the adjustment flap was loose as that room wasn't getting air. They forgot. Both times. So they came out a third day, fixed the flap (literally here for 10 mins, it took longer to get the ladder and go up there). it's a flap, you twist a knob and it alters the flow in the duct. Easy. I can do this, but since I paid them, I hate going in the attic and they forgot. I got a bill for the 3rd visit. I disputed it, because 1) I already asked for this 5 min thing while there were up there two separate times and 2) if I had known he was going to bill me for an hour service for this, I'd have done it myself. The other gripe. My unit is rattling and the attic unit is still making the hiss noise. I start doing research. I found out, the refrigerant is $4 a lb. I expect a markup, fine. But he billed me $55/lb. Seriously? I already paid $400 in labor for for about 2 hours of them actually being here, fine. I don't mind paying for experts. He didn't warn me it would be another $440. That's unacceptable and unprofessional. I will have someone out to test for leaks since the hissing is still there, and louder, but the unit does blow cold. I wouldn't recommend them. The techs didn't listen to me, way over charged me in the guise of "cost of goods", and tried to charge me for their own forgetfulness. Nor did they communicate the costs prior to executing the 3rd day visit, and the freon. EDIT: I cannot respond to the vendors post directly on here so posting and update. I was not complaining about the work performed. You corrected the third visit invoice, but it is noted that after several asks, the dampener request was ignored. Product markup is normal. This markup is excessive. Your license, insurance, experience, etc are rolled into your hourly labor rate. It's why professionals are expensive and I am happy to pay for good work from someone who has earned experience and has proper licensing. This goes into labor. COGS markups should include exactly that. Product cost plus some reasonable markup. Shipping. Taxes. But over 1000% markup is just taking advantage of a customers ignorance in your area of expertise. This is my complaint. Since you brought it up, something I didn't even complain about, your men were here the second day for 2 -2.5 hours. They left for a couple of hours while the system was charging. I know this, because I had to take a day off work to meet you there, and hadn't planned on the time it took. Which was fine. It takes as long as it takes. You make it sound like some courtesy to me that you didn't bill me for a period of time when there was nothing to be done except wait. read more
