Small but bright and artsy coffee shop. This is a good spot if you also like trying uniquely flavored lattes. The Yuzu Salt one was tasty.

While doing coffee shop research via Yelp I was intrigued by the original latte flavors offered at Never. We ended up going here 2x because I just loved the Midnight Oil (oat milk) latte. My son ordered the Hunny latte Oregon latte on the first visit and the Oregon latte on the following visit. He enjoyed his drinks as well, preferring the Oregon over the Hunny. The inside of the shop is bright. I love the fun, artistic wall behind the counter. It looks like the other artwork in the cafe changes over time. There was just enough room for us to sit in the cafe on our first visit (an early Saturday morning) and plenty of choices for us to sit on our 2nd visit (an early weekday morning). Service was fine. Not overly friendly, but also not overly unfriendly. I am rating a 4 because I was disappointed in 1) the surcharge for an alternate milk (I'm vegan, therefore oat milk is my go-to milk) and 2) they do not offer any vegan baked goods. I really would have loved to have had a scone to go with my delicious latte. read more

Never Coffee was a good coffee shop stop while on our last trip to Portland! This was very close to our hotel which was the McMenamins Crystal Hotel. We ducked in here one morning and got a bag of coffee beans to take home and enjoy freshly ground coffee in the morning at home. But we also wanted to try a coffee drink here and hang out for just a bit. We got a hot vanilla latte with oat milk. It was very good and the coffee had a nice, robust flavor to it. The vanilla blended in nicely to make it more mellow and add a bit of complexity to the drink. The folks that worked here were nice and friendly and it was enjoyable to chat with them for a brief moment. The atmosphere is clean and sleek which gives it a nice refreshing feeling. read more

I came to Never Coffee, recommended by a local friend and I wasn't blown away. Service wasn't really friendly as a a customer or first timer asking questions; you really need to be direct when asking questions as they don't really want to converse / be friendly lol. The coffee wasn't amazing. To be honest, for the steep price of $7, it was mid af. Honestly, I don't seem myself coming back. I didn't try a specialty drink, as I'm a firm believer in basics and foundations.... If my basic latte was mid, I don't want to pay more for a basic latte covered in syrups. read more

I love, love, love the aesthetic! I was immediately taken by that. Very colorful, arty pastel. The impasto wall behind the main counter area is gorgeous. They have a nice variety to the menu and selection of beans. I didn't check it out other than from a distance but looks like very cute merch. The cold brew is solid. Which is my usual go to. Flavorful, strong, and potent. Very very nice. I got the iced orange creamsicle latte special with oatmilk. This had a great flavor but a little more milk in it than would be my preference. I was looking for a place with adventurous coffees and Never did not disappoint. We had an iced Yuzu with Salt latte and a hot Oregon. First off, the quality of the beans is exceptional and makes for a silky smooth latte and the syrups are subtle and sophisticated. I thin though, that the Yuzu disappeared in the ice so next time I'd get it hot. Because the aroma and delicate flavor of hops in on the hot Oregon Latte was one of the most delicious things I've ever had. Service is good and ambiance is serviceable. Quick Summary: - Indoor seats only, benches, chairs, and some seats aligned along the walls - Cozy atmosphere - Coffee was slightly sour, but it worked well with the special latte drink style I visited here during the summer of Portland, and it also was the hottest day in that visit. We arrived here, when the temperature was creeping up to the high 80s. From the outside, the building is painted black on brick. It looked like it would absorb every color of the sun's rays into the building. Inside, miraculously, was not as hot as I expected it to be (maybe it's half-thanks to the brick building?) It was lukewarm at the time but if I stayed there longer it might have grown stuffier. Inside the decor was simple, small, but cute. Despite the small interior, there were seats to sit around. I was curious with their special drinks, so I ordered the yuzu and salt iced latte (usually I would have ordered it hot, but that day was just too hot). My relative ordered the iced tea. They make the iced coffee and teas very well: the right amount of ice and tea that ever after the drink sits the ice did not water down the flavor. It might sound unexpected for the cafe, but my relative really enjoyed the tea. She was beaming when she took a sip. I enjoyed the coffee I chose as well. While it was sour, because the flavors were also on the sour and salty side, it worked. My relative didn't think so, so she continued to sip her tea. The flavor reaction depends on the person would be my final verdict. A positive addition to this drink, because the weather was so hot, I enjoyed the light salt and citrus flavor. It rejuvenated me from heat fatigue. Overall, the cafe was nice and comfortable to let time slip by; the staff were considerate and explained the different types of teas they offered before I landed on the one that turned out to be my relative's favorite. read more

Been here only once when I was in Portland. But, we got to try 4 different lattes, coz turns out all 4 of us ended getting a different one! My personal favorite was - Midnight Oil. Hunny. High quality coffee that seems to taste better iced or as a cold brew than hot. The wife brought a sack home last October and it was not my favorite hot. However, I joined her up here last weekend and we both LOVED our iced lattes. "MIDNIGHT OIL": -- their product description sells it as if it will be a big licorice bomb and overwhelm the palate, but it does not as the black licorice is there clearly but rides below the coffee -- sweetness is light -- coffee quality is exquisite -- smooth as hell -- it makes me want to make my rendition at home since I make cold brew coffee but will add a bit more pop of black licorice as I experiment with additions RATING = A "OREGON": -- I had a sip of the wife's, and the honeycomb came through clear -- another beauty -- both brews used their green sack "Bangarang" STAFF were kind with our questions and efficient. I came here a while ago and had an okay experience. The inside of the coffeeshop itself is very cute and has seating for big groups while you study or just casual seating as you're waiting for your coffee. The decor is bright and the establishment is spacious. They also sell some coffee beans and trinkets on the side, which is cute. When I went, there was only one person working and as it was pretty busy, it took a while. But! I didn't mind as their special drinks were pretty unique so it took me a while to read through their menu. They had a fun blend of different flavors and stories to describe each of their drinks. I thought that it was a really creative process and fun way to involve customers in their drinks. The coffee itself was pretty good but, there were A LOT of clumps in my latte. I forgot which one I had gotten exactly, but it was one of the special ones. And, because there were small flies that kept flying around the cafe, it just made me feel a bit paranoid whenever I kept getting clumps as I was sitting in the cafe, drinking. So, although I couldn't enjoy my drink as much as I hoped, I think it just happened to be an unfortunate coincidence. read more

I like that location when I'm visiting, because it opens at 7 and I can head out my hotel to grab coffee and be back before most are awake. Such a colorful coffee shop! Immediately as you enter, the wall behind the counter catches your eye with the various splotches of color. The menu is also color coded to the colors on the wall. I love the artsy vibe here. We got the Yuzu & Salt and Hunny lattes. The lattes we ordered are written in yellow and blue colors on the menu and served in the respective colored mugs. The Hunny is more of a mocha but with floral notes. The Yuzu & Salt is my favorite because it has a hint of spice from the sansho pepper and the yuzu citrus compliments the espresso very well. Came in to get some coffee early in the morning before we set out for our hike. This is a really cute little coffee shop with interesting specialty lattes. We got the Pop, which is a matcha, cherry and lime latte, and the Yuzu and Salt Latte. Wasn't sure how well matcha, cherry, and lime would go together, and it turns out they go really well together! The flavor was on the milder side, but it was really tasty. The yuzu and salt, however, was our favorite of the two drinks. It was the perfect way to start our morning. My favorite coffee shop in Portland. Love their cups too! If you love lattes with unique house made syrups, this is the spot for you. There are multiple locations and may have a different latte at some but not others which makes it worthwhile to visit them all at some point. Came here with 4 friends to tried them all one day and my favorite was the Holy Grail & Yuzu Salt. I've been recently trying to cut back on caffeine and ordered a decaf one...and the quality did not change. I got the "hunny" and my girlfriend got a matcha. The matcha came from a squeeze bottle and was not whisked. Inevitably, it tasted terrible. Just milky unmixed bitterness. First time trying Never Coffee after doing some research and yuzu latte caught my eye. It was close to the hotel I stayed at in the pearl district, so I decided to enjoy a short walk and see what I can f . Located in downtown Portland and is a small coffee shop nearby Powell's City of Books and Blue Star Donuts! . It's spacious cafe enough for a coffee date or a study/work spot. Service was friendly and explained their coffees selections. This is a fun, colorful, and fantastic coffee shop conveniently located next to Dolly Olive . This cafe is colorful and cute, minimalistic, and cozy interior with limited seating. Place wasn't that busy on a Sunday morning around 10 AM, there were probably a total of 6-8 people in the entire coffee shop. . I had the yuzu salt latte (w almond milk). It was fragrant and slightly savory and kind of weird combo like oregon hehe. Yuzu & Salt latte was more on the bitter/tart side, but it would definitely be perfect for someone who enjoys a strong, bitter coffee taste. As a black coffee drinker, this drink was great because it wasn't sweet. The salt made the end notes more smooth. The yuzu was strong enough to taste but not overly powering. It was a one of a kind of latte I have tried, that you won't normally find. This is why it makes this coffee shop stand out for me and will come back and try other drinks. My friend chose this coffee shop for us to try and we both really enjoyed our time at Never Coffee. The environment was chill and it was a great place to hang out and catch up. And all the staff were very friendly. We both had the yuzu & salt lattes and really enjoyed them. I was hesitant to order a drink that seemed so far from my usual iced latte, but I'm glad I did. There was the perfect amount of yuzu for me (not overpowering but definitely there), and the touch of salt brought out the flavors in a great way.
