My son transitioned to NVLA several years ago and really enjoyed all of the opportunities that NVLA had to offer.

This school is so terrible to experience as a middle schooler. I am now an 8th Grader that does…read moreonline school, but I used to go here as a 6th Grader. This school has bad and odd students. These students aren't the nice or typical students that mind their business and are respectful. The girls always involve in drama and they act like they're grown adults who have free will. Wearing makeup, revealing clothes, doing whatever they can to look so nice. But if you don't follow what they wear, your seen as an outcast or your not good enough for them. The boys and girls here are bad and aren't safe to be around. They vape, threaten to hurt other kids, they hide things from they're parents. I've seen 7th Graders with nose piercings who said they hide it from their parents. These kids aren't being monitored or checked on at home. They even secretly sell vapes, I once had a old friend who tried to by a vape off a kid for $20. Girls spray they're perfume everywhere trying to "smell good" god you might as well put a deadly gas in the school. Perfume is too strong to be spraying around casually. Perfume has chemicals in it, you can get kids sick or trigger allergic reactions with that, even teachers! There was a time at P.E in the locker room, I was changing infront of the other girls into my gym clothes. Some girl looks at me and said "why are your buds so black?" Thats disrespectful and can make a kid very insecure of themselves. And it also sounds pretty racist, especially since I'm black. The boys here don't act any different. Almost every kid here acts racist anyways. But the staff here aren't too different. The staff here are rude and don't take accountability. I had a older brother who used to go here when he was in 6th-7th Grade. Some girl and her friends kept picking on him and bullying him. Those girls wouldn't leave him alone. Everyday I would see him come home and talk to my mom of how he hated school and how those girls kept picking on him. He tried going to the principals office, made reports over and over. But what did they do? Nothing. They ignored his reports and his sign for help. Those girls never got in trouble. There was then finally a time those girls picked on him once again. And my brother couldn't take it anymore. What did he do? He took matters into his own hands, and you could say he beat her up pretty badly. But when he did that, he was later expelled for defending himself. Defending himself from something that this shitty school could've easily prevented if they cared. And that girls punishment? She didn't even get expelled too, she got suspended for only a few days. I don't know if they did this for his skintone or because they're horrible at their jobs, but this shows you can't rely on this school for anything. And if you try to help yourself, you'll be in the wrong. Another thing is kids in this school supposedly like to have sex? I remember after school ended for the day and everyone was outside waiting to be picked up, I was with one of my friends talking. But then her friend who was a 7th Grade girl walked up to me and my friend. I didn't know who she was, but my friend and her knew each other. But that same 7th Grader saidshe had sex with her boyfriend, then proceeds to open her backpack and show condoms inside of it. This school is casually having sex without teachers knowing, and sex these days are being watered down to hobby activities for teenagers. It's disgusting and not ok. The school food is dry and gross, and the gym and locker rooms are infested with cockroaches. But from all of this information, this middle school is not worthy of your children going here. This school gave me anxiety and disabled me from socializing other kids and making friends. I now do online school because I am scared of talking to other kids, scared they'll make fun of me, call me names, see me differently, won't fit with them because I don't look the same way like every other else girl does. I now rely on online friends, it's not the safest but what other choices do I have to actually help myself make friends and genuinely happy. This school isn't safe or calming, especially if your child has some type of disability. You should really think before sending your child here, because this is not a safe place for them to go. The only thing that made this school keep my sanity and helped me go by, were my best friends I had since 3rd-5th Grade. It's hard to make friends here if you don't fit in, so be careful for children that go here.

As a student, I genuinely tried to give this school a chance, but the experience has been nothing…read moreshort of disappointing. The staff, especially some of the principals and vice principals, are incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. Instead of supporting students, they talk down to us, ignore concerns, and create an environment where it feels like students are the enemy, not the priority. The school is disorganized and poorly managed. Communication is lacking, discipline is inconsistent, and it's clear the administration has no real control or vision for helping students succeed. Academically, this place is failing us -- resources are outdated, support is minimal, and many students are falling behind with no intervention. It's hard to care about your future in a place that doesn't care about you. The overall atmosphere is chaotic and unwelcoming. Fights happen often, the hallways are loud and unsafe, and instead of addressing deeper issues, the staff just dish out random punishments. It's giving ghetto in the worst way -- not because of the students, but because of how everything is handled. If you're looking for a place that uplifts, guides, or inspires students... this ain't it.

One of my younger cousins go here, and he absolutely loves it, and from what I can tell, this is a…read morereally great school. All my little cousin talks about is about motivated mustangs and the different clubs to join. He also tell me about all the sports divisions they provide. Every time that I pick him up from school, he talks about what he learns. Yeah they are kinda learning things that could maybe be put off a year, but it's good because it's beneficial for their learning and if they're good at hard stuff now, they'll be a pro at it later. That's what I think the plan is here at Mater Academy Mountain Vista. The teachers are also very understanding and cooperative including coaches. Especially Ms. Shelton (2022) I believe she's the volleyball coach, and I hear she does a lot more than that. She's the music teacher, sports manager, elementary student council president. It's so many things that these teachers do to show they are committed into their job and they're willing to take the time to work with students and help them be the best they can be. Mrs. Carbajah (2022) is a wonderful lady and she makes this school great ! From what I hear she's been here at this school since the beginning and has helped it improve over the years. This shows even more how committed all the staff of Mater Academy is. I also love how they have socials to keep families posted on the daily of what going on. This school is just truly amazing and honestly I wish I went here as a kid.

It's cool but the staff are rude to my kid and they are being nice to other kids but not mineread more
