Today my mother had an extremely unpleasant experience at NetCoast Market on Sheepshead Bay. She spent literally 5 minutes in the store, which was almost empty. While she was paying at the register, a security guard suddenly came up behind her and very loudly, right in her ear, demanded to check her bag. The bag was nearly empty, and there was absolutely no reason for suspicion. Not only did he scare her with his behavior, but the fact that he felt entitled to come up so close from behind and essentially search her is completely unacceptable. She is still shaken by this. It was humiliating, rude, and completely unjustified. It's very upsetting that in a store where she just came to buy groceries, she had to experience such stress. She will not be returning and I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

It's open 24 hrs, they have a great flower shop at the entrance. Just a tip, purchase the flowers that caught your eye after you shop for groceries not before. There are many items sold here that you can't find anywhere else no matter how hard you try. One of them is white aired chocolate, I have to get all of them off the shelf. Another is cod liver in a can, for some reason my taste buds love that liver, my body needs the fish oils or omega 3 fatty acids. Used to be a regular customer of Net Cost chain. This particular location has become my least favorite one, and the one I try not to frequent due to abhorrent lack of customer service and common courtesy. This location is open 24/7, and at night, only one or two cashiers and security man the store. No one to assist you if you need help at any of the product counters. Pre-cooked food is getting moldy and greasy on the displays. The food quality dropped considerably over the years. The food sold at the salad bar by a hefty price per pound is meant to be cooked fresh daily. However, I've seen the same dish age in the same tray for three days. Dangerous for health! I had food poisoning after buying pre-cooked fish and chicken cutlets. After that incident, I no longer risk shopping here. Also watch out for expired products. Per USSR manner, some expired goods are not taken off the shelves in the hopes of customers not checking for expiration date. I bought a cake for a guest gathering and when I served it, I was mortified when several of my guests had to comment on how the taste was horribly off. The cake was a month past it's expiration date! Always check for expiration dates--don't be tricked by careless stores. The prices are no longer competitive--you can buy the same imported Eastern European products elsewhere in Brooklyn, for cheaper. The worst is the absolute lack of respect and customer service. All the cashiers are overworked to the bone. There is never enough of them. The lines for checkout are always long. Multiple times I witnessed how managers harass their supervises, insulting them like we are back in USSR and respect does not exist. Seeing such poor treatment of employees is abhorrent and makes me question how desperate people must be to work here. They don't last long--hiring advertisements are all over, because of insane employee turnover. To the managers of the store: learn to treat your staff with respect. Learn to respect customers as well. I don't want to subject myself to rude staff when I'm spending good money here. Witnessed security guards harass a customer, insinuating he did not pay for everything. Very rude and unprofessional. They were checking the cameras for such a long time, that the whole check out area because privy to the humiliating drama. Nasty, rude staff with the worst manners and mentality. read more

I live a few minutes walk from this grocery store but, made my first visit recently. The store is huge and has a free parking lot available. Every time I pass this store, it's always packed with cars and people. The aisles are packed with goodies and many items were on sale. The prices were okay but, I would take advantage of the sale items. I just came for milk and scallions for a recipe. I do agree with others, the items have a short shelf life and expired rather quickly. The milk was only good for 5 days after purchase. Other supermarkets have milk that's good for at least a week and half after purchase. I did find the workers here to be quite rude and condescending. I had asked a worker about their loyalty card and she gave a response not related to my question. And then she kept yelling (yes, yelling as that was necessary) "You understand" over and over like I was some kind of dumb dumb to ask about a loyalty card. read more

This is a pretty good store with a wide variety of food. Overall, the groceries are of good quality and you can truly find just about anything here. I like the wide selection of former soviet food. I also liked how this location has a large parking space available for everyone. There is a great selection of hot, prepared food. Lines can be long as there are a lot of people. The only thing I do want to say is the mushroom periogi could have more mushrooms and less doughs. Same issue applies for the other periogis too. read more

The NetCost store on Ocean Ave is clean with extensive selection of fresh products. The sale representatives are polite and helpful. But the security guards are rude, aggressive and not professional at all. The security guard forced me to open my bag and demanded to display receipts for the products which are not even offered in NetCost market. It was very humiliating experience without any apologies. He completely ignored my request to get a store manager involved, explaining his behavior by store policy. read more

I've been a NetCost customer for many years, ever since their East 16th street location. This was my first time at this ocean avenue location and boy was I impressed. This location is new, massive and clean, with items being competitively priced and almost every kind of Eastern European food that you can think of. The shelves are stocked to capacity with items being prominently displayed and are easy to find and select. All the departments were fully staffed on the Saturday morning I visited. There were minimal rude encounters with staff, nor was there any eye rolling when you have a request, which is a common thing in Russian grocery stores. I was particularly impressed by the hot foods displayed beautifully with all sorts of delicious items which I'll be coming back to sample since it wasn't on my agenda for this visit. Their pickles vegetable selection was also impressive with lots of gorgeous brined and fermented items. My check out was speedy and pleasant as the young lady was kind and friendly. I'm looking forward to coming back to this location and I hope to have another positive shopping experience. read more

They don't even have a scale to weigh your produce, you have to go to the register to weigh your produce and then keep going back and forth if you grab too much or too little. This is a con they play, figuring most people will grab more than they need and just be too lazy or too old to go back and just pays the difference. Disrespectful Cashier I had the worst experience in NetCost with one of a cashier named- Anastasia Sapiyazhunshava. I asked her "Can you split the items into 2 different cards?- As I had 2 cards in my hands .She swiped only one card and said that's it.I asked I wanted to split it into 2 different card not 1 because we were 2 people . She didn't confirm if she understood me correctly.I asked if she could return all and redo it so we pay with 2 different cards and split half and half . She gave us an unpleasant facial expression and rudely said I will not return because you didn't say 2 cards... I explained again maybe there was misunderstanding.She said "IF YOU WANT TO SHOP AT NET-COST, YOU SHOULD SPEAK RUSSIAN ". I've been a customer for many years and this place and experience keep getting worse. I often take items to find out later that they are gone bad. The items on the photos is just an example, there is at least of 4-5 items every time I shop around I stumble too. When I've tried to show this to a personal they looked at me like crazy, and didn't even took this product off the chefs. This property used to be a Waldbaum's, then Gala Fresh, and now the newest iteration of a supermarket in the form of NetCost looks pretty zhuzhed up. Each section is clearly labeled and the walls are painted with relaxing pictures of windows and trees. The huge space means they carry a ton of products from buckwheat in bulk to cases of Pellegrino. I was able to pick up kale, farro, smoked gouda, and frozen pelmenis all in one go. Best of all, the number of checkout lines looks glorious and infinite. The biggest complaint I had with my usual NetCost market at 16th Street was slow wait times which would snowball into long lines. I barely need to wait and checkout is speedy and efficient. The parking lot is also a bonus! read more

I do not know how the owner of this store continue his business like this...almost nothing you can find fresh in this store. Last time I went to get a cheese they DON'T do fresh cut anymore in the Deli department. You have to take whatever there is already available cut and packed week or so ago. Few days ago I went there again to get a yogurt cheese. Of course since its a new rule they don't do or have not fresh cut only what's available I grab one pack of cheese BUT when I get home I noticed that it's already expired and cheese taste like rotten. In America we already struggle having good nutritional healthy food. Now this people do not care selling bad rotten food what's or ever. I am (to be precise I WAS) a Net Cost Market customer for a long-long time. I watched it grow from a inky-dinky "kielbasa store" into a chain as it is today. It was convenient stop for all i needed: dumplings, kielbasa, lox, eastern European delicacies. As Net Cost Market grew it became apparent that customers that made it into a chain were less and less important. The store workers are mainly immigrants from Latin America and former USSR. The floor employees are semi-helpful bordering on rude. When cleaning lady sweeps the floor she makes sure to sweep the dirt on customers feet if they not quick to step aside. The person on a fresh fish department is doing customers a huge favor of letting them to select a fish. And so on..and so on... All this "soviet-style" customer service is simply tolerated for the convenience sake. The newly opened location on 532 Neptune ave sports a ..rooftop parking. Wow! However, there is no sign at the Parking entrance that it's a PAID parking. Customer prompted to press knob and get a parking ticket. Well, you say to yourself: " most likely, the parking ticket will be validated by the store clerk, like in many other stores. WRONG !!! Its is NOT. I went to the store day before yesterday ..and being in a new place, where i had to search allover the floor for what i needed, i spent there more than 2hrs. My total bill came to $411.08. Any fair-minded person would assume, that if you spend this king of dough, at least you are given a free parking. WRONG!!! On a top of $411.08 for groceries i had to spend additional $8 for a parking! When i went to validate parking ticket, the "customer service manager" by the name Vika was rude to me and made me feel like i am in a Moscow not in New York. I have expressed my displeasure with the lack of service, to what Vika who never stopped playing with her phone in no uncertain terms did let me know that she could not care less if customers are coming or not to their store. So... after 6+ years of being a loyal customer, i bid my farewell to Net Cost Market. NEVER AGAIN will i step into Net Cost Market, because i am not going patronize the business where customers are not treated with respect. P.S. Also, the Net Cost Market is NOT competitive anymore with other stores like it was in the a past. Same groceries that Net Cost sells could be bought much cheaper at Key Food or Stop and Shop. Any item that Net Cost Market sells can be bought at any "eastern-European" mom-and-pop shop in Brooklyn, Queens, or Jersey - cheaper AND the sales-person at those stores will greet you with a smile. This was one of my favorite places, until TODAY!!!!! I went to get a salad to have with my lunch and witnessed the nastiest thing ever. A guy was talking to a staff member and while doing so he had a spoon (looked from home) eating from the open buffet style food. I thought the staff member would say something but he laughed so, I went up to him and asked what are you doing? Did u just dip the same spoon you ate from in the food? he said sorry, all while talking g to staff. I was so disgusted I gave the staff standing there my already dished bowl and spoke to a manager. We use NetCost a lot, its a full size supermarket. This particular location works 24/7 and has large parking lot. Good selections of fruits, vagatables, breads baked on premised, dairy, cold cuts. They have buchers and fish counters. I am not a big fan of their ready to eat food, pretty average quality. But the rest of their stuff is good. read more

This was properly accounted for in the statement we got afterwards, but we would have appreciated being asked whether to substitute. They should also fire their web developer; adding new items to an existing order is chancy and the search box is unusable in Safari 11.1.2. I'd added an extra tip for the larger order, and was unable to remove it when our order turned out to be small again--and they never respond to their email. 5/3/2020: I'm afraid we still haven't gotten a response to our email, nor a refund for the extra tip. read more

I've been to other locations, and this supermarket is definitely the best! Huge selection of American & Russian products, bakery, pastries, fish & meats. Huge selection and variety of cheese and kielbasa. I always enjoy shopping here! Very friendly and helpful stuff! The most reasonable and decent prices around the neighborhood. If I go there, I usually get some fresh bread (kiyevskiy), butter and red caviar (peter pan). Also, the supermarket is well designed , bright and spacious! Very bad and frustrating service. Came yesterday to buy some sausage in Deli department. There was one family before me and one sales person helping them. He notified me that he is not going to help me because 4 minutes left to 8 and he is not assisting customers 5 minutes before 8. There were 4 other sales persons cleaning something and not even looking at the customers. On my questions where I can find a store manager, aforementioned sales person in the Deli department told me that manager went home. Only with the NetCost Market stores (in Staten Island and on Ocean Ave) I have such negative experience with some departments closing at 8pm while the rest of the store works until 9pm. Also, often Sales people rude and unpleasant. Will try to stop going there or minimize my purchases in those stores. read more
