TLDR: Excellent escape rooms in downtown Raleigh. Plenty of options to choose from that vary in back story and difficulty level. NERD escapes has two houses with 7 rooms total. The red and yellow color coding identify which house you go to. We completed the Chernobyl and the Return rooms with about 5 people. We had a blast in both rooms. The back stories were engaging and the rooms are detailed and well kept. Reserving rooms is quick and easy on the website. We were even able to book last minute. Hints are allowed although we like to save them as a last resort. An employee kept up with our progress to provide appropriate hints when requested. We did need a few hints, one related to difficult to use equipment. The room were challenging without being impossible. We ended up needing nearly an hour to escape from both. Unlike most escape rooms they do not offer to take your picture at the end. We remembered after the second room, but forgot after the first. They have an area for pictures with props so it was surprising that you have to request a picture. Parking: lot available behind the houses as well as street parking. Price: typical escape room price of $30 per person per hour Customer service: excellent. We were greeted upon arrival, received clear instructions, and allowed time to use the restroom before starting.

Very challenging escape room. We had a great time though. We did solve the crime but it took over an hour. This is a great activity for critical thinking and teamwork.

Visiting the Raleigh-Durham area for work and a colleague suggested a team building at NERD Escapes. I was apprehensive because this was my first escape room. We had SO much fun! The young lady who welcomed us and provided clues was super - friendly, welcoming, and she didn't laugh at us when we couldn't figure out the most obvious of clues. Best part? We solved the mystery with 5 minutes to spare! A super fun activity in an older wood frame house, this is a sure fire way to bring your team together. Highly recommend!

We've been to Nerd Escapes twice, first playing The Return, then playing Chernobyl. We successfully escaped from both rooms and had a lot of fun in each with great game masters and some unique puzzles we hadn't seen before. The only downsides were: 1) Like its neighbor, Room 5280, Nerd Escapes is located in a repurposed old house with creaky floors and relatively thin walls and doors. This means that, even though each experience is relatively immersive, you may be abruptly returned to reality at times by the sound of players in other rooms. 2) We've played at several escape rooms in the Raleigh-Cary-Apex area now, and these two have been the easiest by far even though The Return is classified as Intermediate and Chernobyl as Advanced. Each time we escaped with more than 15 minutes left on the clock. While this may be partially attributed to our increasing ease and experience with escape rooms, I do feel like the rooms could have been more difficult. 3) SPOILER: Chernobyl includes a puzzle that may be unsuitable for anyone suffering from claustrophobia and/or intense fear of the dark. We were fine, but it would be a good idea for Nerd to note this in the room's description on its website. Overall, Nerd Escapes has provided great, albeit slightly too easy, experiences in the two rooms we've tried so far. We recommend checking them out and then heading to The Cupcake Shoppe Bakery across the street for a victory treat afterward.

Had so much fun doing the showdown and the gallery! Definitely recommend doing this for a team building exercise or with friends.

I like escape rooms but when I'm somewhere new and visiting I usually like exploring local or something new but this escape room was honestly a highlight. We did the speakeasy one and it encompassed some local facts and was a great time overall. Recommend an escape room in Raleigh!

We completed most of the room in about 30 minutes and spent about 12 minutes on the last puzzle. The room was simpler than ones we have done in the past. It was still fun and we would recommend it to those new to doing escape rooms. The employee running the room was attentive. We did not ask for hints but he did nudge us in the right direction towards the end. He just did not seem very into it. Some escape rooms are more theatrical with more backstory and a review at the end. This one was simple and even though we completed the room, we left with questions about the story line. We LOVED all the signs set out for pictures. The meme boards were hilarious. We started on time, the instructions were clearly communicated, and all the equipment worked well. You can keep your belongings with you and set them on a chair in the room. We parked on the street since the adjacent lots are for church parking or AT&T employees only. Overall, we had a good time and recommend this escape room to others. We likely will return to try out the upcoming asylum room!

My wife and I recently visited Times Up! and we had a really good time…read more Most of the rooms at Times Up! required 4 or more participants, and since it was just the two of us, our only choice was the Room 555 escape room. Overall, I thought the room was a lot of fun. The moderator was nice, and the room had some good puzzles. My only complaints would be: 1) The text-to-speech computer program used to present the story and clues was a little awkward and clunky, and it definitely made it harder to immerse myself in the scenario. It'd be significantly better if a real person was reading the dialogue. Also, it felt like the background story could have been more interesting, although the clues were fun to figure out. 2) One of the clues was meant to be locked and they left it unlocked, so the moderator had to come in during the scenario and re-lock it for us. Not a big deal, but it did disrupt the event a bit. Overall, I liked Times Up! and would definitely come back.

I've completed 3 of the rooms at this location and they are all fun and great for groups. However, the quality of Times Up! is simply not as good as other escape rooms that I've been to. Without getting into the details about the rooms or their solutions, my biggest gripe is about the quality of the rooms. The decorations definitely feel antiquated, and the rooms themselves could certainly have more personality to them. I've been to places where the themes go all out and have some pretty unique decorations. While the rooms to each have a theme, some props are clearly cheap. In some instances, doors don't open completely and locks are a bit finnicky to unlock. Plus, the backstory of the room isn't really told by the gamemaster. It's told by a text-to-speech AI on a fuzzy screen. Their speech isn't even free flowing, it's super choppy and odd. As a positive, I love how there are different themed rooms with varying difficulties. I've managed to escape each of the rooms I've attempted and I've always felt satisfied with the team performance after each room. The gamemasters have always been kind and helpful when we ask for hints. And although sometimes the execution isn't perfect, I can appreciate the attempt to try and create unique puzzles. Overall, Times Up! has some redeeming qualities to it that make this place worth trying. If you're looking for the best of the best, there are some other really amazing spots, but if you're looking for just a fun activity on a rainy day then this is the place!

Parking was pretty easy since Game On is part of an outdoor shopping mall. Importantly, there are two levels to the mall, and Game On is located on the top level. We completed the Odin's Trial room in the allotted time, with a few hints from our gamemaster Spundun :) Everything in the room worked as expected, which is always appreciated. In general, escape rooms feel a little overpriced to me, but we did have fun, so I guess I can't complain! Overall, I'd recommend Game On.

Everyone was fully engaged from the second we walked in until the moment we solved the final mystery. The Room: Odin's Trial We did the Odin's Trial room, and the production value was top-notch. The puzzles were clever, thematic, and just the right level of "tricky" to keep us thinking without getting frustrated. The atmosphere really transports you into the Norse mythos. Our Game Master: Trevor O. A huge shout-out to Trevor O., who was easily one of the best game masters we've ever had. He was absolutely awesome at reading the room. He knew exactly when to hang back and let us struggle through a puzzle and exactly when to drop a perfectly timed clue to keep our momentum going. His guidance was helpful without giving too much away, which made the final "aha!" moments even more satisfying. Verdict Whether you're looking for a family outing, a team-building event, or just a fun night out with friends, I can't recommend Game On enough. If you go, definitely ask for Trevor--he made the experience truly special for our whole group! We will definitely be back to try their other rooms!
