The alterations were very simple, just bringing in the items 1-2 inches. They asked me when I needed the items by, I said by next Friday. They were provided 1 full week to do the alterations. On Thursday I went in to see if the items were completed, they told me to return Friday at noon. On Friday I arrived at 11:45 am, where they notified me that they shipped my items off to a different location to get the alterations done and that my items had not yet been returned. This is a problem for the following reasons: 1) I did not authorize for my clothes to be shipped anywhere so they did that without my permission, 2) they didn't notify me that the clothes would be shipped anywhere, even though I was in the store the day before asking for the clothes, and 3) they refused to tell me where the clothes had been shipped to. They also refused to give me the phone number of a manager or supervisor to talk about the issue. There was also customer who came in after me to pick up their items and the attendant told them that their clothes also were not ready and to come back on a later day. This establishment is poorly managed and untrustworthy. I would not take my clothes here if I were you. You should probably find somewhere else.

The one lady who is the seamstress is very knowledgeable about the lengths for various styles and very patient about showing me different lengths. The physical plant is very clean and spacious, and the changing room is roomy, has a chair and has the area for pinning the clothes all in that one room. A little farther from my neighborhood than I wanted it to be, but I thought, "Why not call them? For giggles...." I spoke with a woman named Bonnie. She said she couldn't give me an exact price for alterations because she needed to see the dress. Understood. I asked how late they were open to find out I had only 45 minutes till closing, but I had to get the darn dress in, so I got in the car and booked. Bonnie was a sweet little woman with short, doll-like but slightly graying curls. She was dressed like she came straight out of a 1950s issue of Better Homes and Gardens with an A-line skirt past the knee and a pretty, conservative blouse. The shop itself mirrored her antiquity: old, wooden paneling; a vintage-looking sign out front that lets passers-by know they do alterations; homey, not sterile and steamy like most cleaners.... Bonnie greeted me with a humble and hospitable smile and knew I was the one she had recently spoken to on the phone. She took a look at the dress and keenly advised me of what needed to be done since there were different fabrics and particular frills that needed to be tackled. I could tell she was a seamstress fit for the task. Within minutes and well before closing time, she showed me to the fitting room, pinned what needed to be pinned, took down my information and said she would call me when the alterations were done. All this with a gentle air. I felt like I've known her since I was a child and knew I could trust her. She just made me feel so at home; I almost thought she'd bring out a plate of cookies and some milk! Not much more than a week later the dress was finished and I was very impressed by the handiwork. Such fine and delicate material was perfectly stitched, and the frills looked as if they hadn't been altered or reconstructed at all. Great place, great work, great satisfaction. I returned to find the slits on the bottom are 1.3/4"- baby slits. The slits SHOULD HAVE BEEN 4" JUST LIKE IT WAS AND this brand, new top has 2 (grease?) spots on the front. This brand, new top is RUINED!!!! The woman behind the desk couldn't care less and told me to talk to the owner. She didn't know when the owner would be available. Pass this place up.

Not only did they hem my wedding dress, they brought it in so it fit perfectly and they added sleeves - exactly as I wanted. They allowed me to come in for fittings as needed and made sure my dress fit like a dream. I also needed a dress tailored for our wedding dance which included adding a split so I could lunge, hemming it to remove the train, bringing it in and adding sleeves. They nailed it!! They were so awesome that I ended up having three other dresses altered in addition to my wedding dresses. Now let's talk cost. The value was SO REASONABLE! But it seems just wrong to take advantage of the very customers who patronize you when it's just as easy to do the work themselves. So, as for why I didn't just do it myself when I made others. I've been every deliberate about supporting small local businesses during the quarantine largely because I believe those interactions will help the businesses cover expenses and stay open. I bought fabric to make washable masks for female loved ones who are first responders (pharmacy, medical, supply chain, etc) thinking they'd appreciate a specialty facial covering to wear in their off days once some restrictions are limited --- knowing we'll be wearing these for a while. After learning Maria was open for business and making masks, I decided to give her the business instead. During my visit, she showed me several reversible washable styles she sells for $8. I bought two. After buying 2 @ $8, I mentally prepared to pay something close (or less) to that because she would supply fabric for the back and ear straps. The ones I bought from her for $8 and reversible. Timing was reasonable--- a week to make 16 adult masks and 2 kids. When I returned to pick them up, I was pleased with how they turned out but was shocked by the price! I was charged $10 per mask for a one sided mask. I pointed out the price was higher than what I was charged when she provided fabric. Despite feeling gouged, I paid it not because I wanted to believe she must have needed the $ enough to essentially overcharge a repeat consumer. While the one bad experience will not erase better experiences and quality, I have no plans to bring more work I can do myself or seek anything else without getting the price upfront.
