Stumbled upon this establishment while walking out of St. Andrews Pub. We talked to a few people…read morewalking out and they raved about the food and drinks. We hadn't eaten so we decided to try it. All I can say is "WOW"! Give me a board with fresh cheese, meats and sides and I am in heaven. Their boards do not disappoint. We also ordered the whipped cheese spread with baguettes. It was so delicious we asked the chef to come out so we could compliment her. The mixed drinks are delicious. Try the Old & New which is a copy of an Old Fashion. They have many wines and beers also. Our Burgunbarrel experience was so good we went back the next day to have another appetizer (deviled eggs), the Mama Mia board, and split a sandwich. Again, delicious, great service, and as great as the day before. Burgunbarrel is now in our top five for Panama City! Excellent addition to the beautiful St. Andrews.

We ordered a couple of boards and a few bottles of wine. The boards were good, but not quite filling enough for a full dinner for our group. The bartender was also serving tables, so service was a bit limited and we often had to get up and go to the bar since check-ins at the table were infrequent. Our table was also on the smaller side, which made it a little crowded once the wine and boards arrived. That said, we would absolutely go back -- especially as a date night spot for just the two of us to enjoy a glass of wine and a board as an appetizer while listening to live music.

It's almost summer, but before the warm weather kicks in, let me talk about soups!…read moreAt Somethin's Cookin Downtown, there's a delightful array of homemade soups that, with one spoonful, elicit such words as hearty, flavorful, comforting, nourishing and rich. Daily soups selections vary between creamy and broth style. Well known for its squash soup, this one is in a class all it's own with creamy richness full of savory chunky bites of summer squash. Always available on the daily menu is She Crab soup, made popular by Chef Paul Stellato from Firefly . The creamy smooth warmth of this soup is only truly developed by the chunky bites of fresh crab eluding to it's name. This soup is a true "award winner" and requested by many dining at Somethin's Cookin Downtown. There are other savory, warm specials like Chicken and dumplings, made fresh with handmade dumplings in a rich seasoned broth with chunks of chicken reminiscent of a dish made popular in the deep south. These brief descriptions of popular soups can only be rivaled by additional daily specials infused with the same love and care a soup at grandma's would have. Please visit Somethin's Cookin Downtown for a half specialty sandwich or salad accompanied by your choice of daily soup offering by the cup or bowl and some warm, soft, delectable braided bread on the side. You won't be disappointed!

Thistle & Thorne - Mini-afternoon tea for two

We went to Thistle and Thorne on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the mini afternoon tea for two…read more It comes with two pots of premium loose leaf tea (we chose strawberry kiwi and birthday tea), two housemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and four classic finger sandwiches--cucumber and ham & provolone. My daughters loved the cucumber sandwiches--they tasted fresh and crisp. The ham and provolone had a mustard spread they didn't care for, and the bread was a little on the stale side. That said, the presentation on the two-tier platter was undeniably cute. Honestly though, the real win here is the vibe. It somehow blends traditional afternoon tea with hip coffee shop energy and just a hint of speakeasy moodiness. The "bar" lined with loose leaf teas instead of liquor bottles was such a fun touch (though yes, they do serve alcohol too if that's your thing). We sat in one of the window alcoves, which felt semi-private and made the whole outing with my daughters feel a little extra special. And the floor-to-ceiling bookshelf? Chef's kiss. Our server was attentive and cheerful, and mentioned they offer a full high tea once a month--which apparently sells out in five minutes (not surprising). But honestly, the mini tea (available Fridays and Saturdays) was just right for us.

Lo and behold the mimosas were on special and they had flavors like white peach, rose & lavender, cucumber basil & lime, blueberry and of course traditional OJ. The vibe is super cool inside! They offer a biggg selection of loose leaf tea and it seemed popular with a lot of people that came in for it. Light food also available like a vegan soup, scone with clotted cream and jam and couple other items. Loved this place wil stop back again!
