Ordered the hummus appetizer and the traditional gyro. Got the appetizer. Really? Is there any hummus in it? One little tiny cup. 6 pita triangles. Ate one. OMFG. There was oil spewing from the pita. I asked if the pita was deep fried. She said yes. How disgusting. That's a damn travesty. That's about as generic as you get. That's ghetto. I will end my review now before I get thrown off this platform.

I grabbed a seat at the counter and that let me see what was going on in the grilling area. Nothing special, they're slicing meat from the donner, grilling it and then wrapping it up. What was particularly interesting was watching the guy making curly fries. These are prepared to order with a hand-crank machine that spins the potatoes and makes curled fries. To order, in case you missed that part. I opted for a sweet tea and my refills were half-and-half as wow, it is seriously sweet. I went right to the traditional gryo, which had lettuce on it but was still very tasty if perhaps a little on the greasy side. And if we're talking greasy, the fries were seriously oily. I guess the curliness of it retains the grease because they were wet with oil. Service was good and the food was tasty and inexpensive.

    Classic Gyro and curly fries

We both had the classic gyro and curly fries. Food was great and the service was excellent.

Not sure why The Gyro Cafe has a lower rating but they deserve much higher. They must be a local favorite because when I left their restaurant at 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was more than half full with people. I chose the Classic and added lettuce along with their homemade fries. Excellent choice!!! The meat was perfect. Cooked throughout but very moist and consistent with great flavor. The wait staff was awesome, very friendly and attentive...and they have awesome sweet tea!!!

First time trying this joint out, and it was well worth trying something new! server was very helpful with making selection-- I ordered a chicken Spartan gyro, with potato slices. everything was cooked perfectly and was very yummy! I would def recommend based off of my visit.

With its order-at-the-counter and find-a-seat setup, this fit the bill perfectly for my family. The restaurant itself had a clean and casual vibe, with high ceilings, warm wooden accents, a mix of high-top and standard tables, and scenic Mediterranean photography lining a white stone-textured wall. The blue chairs and light wood elements throughout gave it a Greek atmosphere that felt family-friendly. For lunch on this day I ended up ordering the grilled chicken gyro minus tomatoes and got the fresh-cut fruit as my side. My wife ordered the chicken basil-pesto pita with tomato cucumber salad, and we got our twins a grilled cheese pita with fresh-cut fruit. Our food came out within ten minutes of ordering and looked pretty good. Personally, all I ended up eating here was the grilled chicken gyro. I thought that both the pita and the tzatziki sauce were good, and the chicken was seasoned nicely. However, I did feel that my sandwich was a bit on the dry side and that it could have used a bit more tzatziki. My wife enjoyed her pita as well, especially the basil pesto. Finally, my kids each ate half of the grilled cheese pita, most of the fresh fruits, and pretty much all of my wife and my chips. Since they can be picky eaters I would definitely consider that a success. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My whole family enjoyed our food and I thought it was reasonably priced, so why not.

They were kind enough to gift me a dessert! I was blown away by the generosity and the kindness of the associate. The inside is also very nice, lots of space for tables and lots of room for a family style meal. The food prices have increased a lot since the uploaded menu photos like on Google!!!! It's pretty pricey, but huge portions! I ordered a Shrimp Kabob Plate and subbed one of the kabobs for chicken. I also ordered an extra side of Tahini (not tzatziki) sauce. I will say the portion of the protein was not as much as I would like on first glance, but it was A LOT OF FOOD! The portion of the entire plate itself was huge. Two cups of rice, two salads, one huge pita, the meat proteins and one tzatziki sauce. I loved the pickled onions on the salad, so flavorful and delicious! Unfortunately, I was accidentally given two tzatziki sauces instead of an extra tahini, but accidents happen! No problem! I just LOVE garlic, so I felt like the flavors I was desiring was missing? Again, I love garlic lol. I think that the bread, when it came out was warm... got stale really fast? There were only 3 chicken pieces, but they were HUGE! I just think I need to explore more sauce options, because I felt like something was missing. But I still ate a TON and was satisfied after. I was really blown away by the customer service there. The associate, I'm not sure if he was the owner or not, but was extremely generous and kind! He was super friendly, had a smile on his face, and the small goodies really blew me away and made my day better. Thank you!

If you know anything about middle eastern, Turkish or Mediterranean food this place doesn't have the flavor. Had the chicken shawarma and it's made from chicken fingers, the fattoush was a bit of a joke it was iceberg lettuce (lol) and not one touch of sumac. While the food was meh I wouldn't call this Mediterranean by any stretch of the imagination. If I didn't know Mediterranean maybe it would somehow fool me. Buddy had the lamb shank and it was tender but completely bland. Sorry, won't be back.

First The Menu Bait-and-Switch Their website menu and a customer-posted menu are identical both promise pita bread and tzatziki with entrees. We ordered based on that. When we called after getting home asking where these items were, they claimed it was "an old menu posted by a customer." Except their website/menu online says the same thing. Either fix your menus or stop lying to customers. The Portions were pathetic when told they were good sized and oh man the food was Flavorless! For $79 + tip, we got portions embarrassingly small. The grape leaves? Cold, wet, and bland could barely eat three. The rice was lifeless. The $37 "Fish of the Day" tilapia had ZERO flavor and no lemon even basic Mediterranean cooking demands lemon. The $30 salmon kabob was mediocre-sized and barely filling. Everything tasted like it was prepared with zero seasoning and zero effort and no soul. We had to season our own food at home. Our server was too busy with personal conversations to help properly. When handing us our to-go food, she literally said, "I didn't put gratuity on there but you guys can if you want" like she was doing us a favor by separating the hot items from the cold. We tipped anyway because we're good Samaritans when it comes to eating out. When we complained by phone, the response was hollow: "I'll let the Owner know to fix it" the only positive thing: Location is easy to find. That's literally it. The building is rundown, interior cramped with tables crammed together, decor is mediocre at best. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Better Mediterranean restaurants exist all over Destin. This is a cautionary tale of poor execution, dishonest practices, and staff that clearly doesn't care. 1/5 Stars - Never returning.
