I had not been here in more than a decade. My husband loves gyros, so we stopped for lunch when we were in PC. We arrived right before opening and there was already a line of people waiting but we were seated immediately. My husband had the classic gyro with fries and I had the Zeus (chicken) gyro with fries. The food was just as good as I remembered it to be. It was fresh and served quickly. The wait staff were super friendly and attentive. The dining area was clean, nicely decorated, and inviting. I grabbed a seat at the counter and that let me see what was going on in the grilling area. Nothing special, they're slicing meat from the donner, grilling it and then wrapping it up. What was particularly interesting was watching the guy making curly fries. These are prepared to order with a hand-crank machine that spins the potatoes and makes curled fries. To order, in case you missed that part. I opted for a sweet tea and my refills were half-and-half as wow, it is seriously sweet. I went right to the traditional gryo, which had lettuce on it but was still very tasty if perhaps a little on the greasy side. And if we're talking greasy, the fries were seriously oily. This has always been one of our favorite restaurants but we just ordered take out from them & it was horrible. The French fries ( that we normally love) were so greasy we could not eat them. I can barely hold the phone my hands are so greasy. I also ordered sweet tea and it wasn't. They also don't use boxes to keep food warm. I recommend if you want a delicious meal go in! read more

Food was really nasty, but I don't know what I was expecting. The quality of food I would expect to find in a roadside diner.

Not sure why The Gyro Cafe has a lower rating but they deserve much higher. They must be a local favorite because when I left their restaurant at 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was more than half full with people. I chose the Classic and added lettuce along with their homemade fries. Excellent choice!!! The meat was perfect. Cooked throughout but very moist and consistent with great flavor. The wait staff was awesome, very friendly and attentive...and they have awesome sweet tea!!! read more

What a delightful eatery to find!! Had my first experience a week ago and WOW I was impressed. Walking in I was blown away with the decor, extreme cleanliness, and friendly staff. I've never cared for Greek food and turned my nose up. However, I was out with my daughter who loves gyros. Again my nose turned upward. I do not like lamb. To me it has a gamey taste. To appease my daughter I took a pinch of her gyro...yummy. I could have yanked it from her but she guarded it. Their gyros rock. In fact everything we had was mouth watering delicious. Even their ice tea was to perfection. I'm a real big tea critic. I highly recommend you check Gyro Cafe out. You will not be disappointed. Ask for Lacey to serve you. She assisted us and has to be the "best" waitress I have ever encountered. We're Panama City natives and have been eating here since just after they opened. That's about to stop. The food quality has been steadily declining but was still marginally acceptable on our recent visit. The service, however, was absolutely atrocious! Our waitress was rude from the start, got our order wrong and then became mouthy and belligerent when I asked for a printed receipt. She ran my credit card in her handheld scanner and the "printed" receipt came out blank, which was totally useless. When I asked for an actual printed receipt, she said, "Nope, the printer isn't working so that's all you get." I asked if she could print a copy at the register. "Nope, we don't do that." I explained that I needed an itemized receipt for expense purposes and she said, "Well, that ain't my problem. You can take a picture of the total on my scanner but that's all you're gonna get." I asked if she could email me an itemized receipt. "No, we can't do that. This is all you're gonna get, so you're just out of luck." I had kept my composure until that point but that pushed my button. I asked why she was being so rude and she said, "It ain't my job to make you happy. You're just gonna have to get over it." Other diners were overhearing the conversation and one of them said if she spoke to him that way, he'd slap her smart--- face. That was absolutely the most ridiculously bad customer service I've ever had and I can't think of any reason at all to give them any more of my business. They apparently have so many customers, they no longer need us. We are done! read more

Stuck in Panama City a couple days and saw this place on Yelp. Pics and reviews were good, so thought I'd come and try it out. Damn glad I did. Ordered a Greek salad, super gyro, baklava, and unsweet tea. Salad was awesome with Greek dressing. Super gyro (regular gyro with sauteed mushrooms, feta cheese, and tziki sauce) was one of the best gyros I'd ever had. The gyro is fresh of the spit, which is in full view of the dining room. Baklava was perfect, but I forgot to take a picture of it. Iced tea was very good as well. If I lived here, I would be a regular. Service was very good as well. While in PCB we tried out several of the restaurants along the main strip and found ourselves mostly disappointed in the subpar food. Next to our last night in town we decided to try and find a Mediterranean place. My husband and I both love the light meals you can get at these places. Our hunt is always for authentic/mom & pop. We have one in our small town in North MS and there is also a place in Memphis (over an hour drive) that we go to as well. It was later in the evening when we discovered the Gyro Cafe. It is located in a small strip mall. The interior is nice and clean. The 2 waitresses were very welcoming. We ordered the salad with Feta and olives (no meat; unsure of the name) with their "house" dressing. My husband also ordered a Gyro (again not sure which) and we split both. Both were good and filling for us. I can't say that it knocked our socks off. Comparing it to the 2 main restaurants we have closer to us it just didn't rank up there with truly authentic. Both of the restaurants at home are owned by families from Syria. Everything is fresh and made by them (well 90% probably). This seemed as though it was more prepackaged. Again, it was fine and honestly it was the best meal we ate while there. I would definitely return and would love to try the shawarma. Our total was just under $20. Very affordable place! read more

I just have to say the people at this place are amazing!! I was up visiting my daughter and wanted some gyros. I went in, sat down at the counter and ordered. The person took my order and was super friendly. Then I watched the cook for a few minutes while waiting for my food and he did an amazing job putting the gyros together for all the customers in the place. He seemed to care that each one was perfect. I made sure to let him know. As I was leaving one of the waitresses asked if she could refill my drink. I said they were always so nice already and it wasn't necessary but she insisted. AMAZING!! The food was very good as well and I actually had to ask 2 different times if the price was correct because it was so inexpensive for the amount of food I got. I told my daughter to let all her people at Tyndall to go here for anyone hungry, wants to be treated great by an amazing staff and wants some great food. We've been going to the Gyro Cafe since I was a little girl. The curly fries are delicious and now they have sweet potato fries too. These are a big hit with the kids! We usually get the Traditional Gyro, because they have a "Two Can Dine" special that includes 2 traditional gyros, 2 plates of curly fries, and 2 drinks. They have numerous different versions of gyros and different meats (if you don't care for lamb). The server will bring doodlepads for your kids to play with while you wait for you food to be prepared. Unless you arrive during off-peak hours, you might want to avoid taking large groups here. They're usually packed at lunch and all of the tables are rather small (4 people maximum). read more

The service is a bit lacking, though the staff is very personable... but please tell me why you'd be possessed to deep fry a spanakopita? The hummus, when it's in stock, is okay, but the portion size is rather small and no tahini is used (if it is, I couldn't taste it). After adding a new office to my work responsibilities, my travel has increased into the Panhandle. With frequent visits to Panama City on the horizon, I am looking for the local favorites to adopt as my own. I have been eating gyros a long time in cities far and wide. This one is decent. The spice factor could be upped a notch. The tzatziki is delicious - hits all the right flavor notes! The flatbread wrapping is also super fresh - not a pita, but pita like and tasty!
