Outside

Dosen't look like much from the outside but as the saying goes don't judge a book by the cover! I was totally impressed and nicely surprised when I walked in the door, I was greated nicely, with smiling faces and I was seated very quickly. I ordered the one center cut pork chop meal and all I can say is the service and food was outstanding and the food was hot, fresh and delicious. If you are in the neighborhood and you want good, hot country cooking please give PoFolks a try as you will not be disappointed . I will be returning soon.

Country fried steak, cheese grits and red beans n rice

Really enjoyed this clean out of the way restaurant! We started with fried green tomatoes which were wonderful and very well made. My wife had fried chicken with fried okra and cooked cabbage and I had country fried steak with cheese grits and red beans and rice. Everything was very tasty, hot and well prepared. Our server, Amanda was very attentive and helpful and we noticed a lot of locals coming in which is a good sign for a business near a tourist area. We will go back every time we're in the Panama City area on vacation.

Whole Shebang Salad

Good spot for some decent (not delicious) southern food. The staff is always friendly & welcoming. The food is good. I always go with the the whole shebang salad. No shrimp, double chicken. That way I don't get a lot of grease in my dinner. The dinner roll does taste like a non glazed Krispy Kreme donut though. The biscuits better. The price is great and they have a good kids menu. This place is a hell of a lot better than Paula Deans so called southern cooking restaurant. Update: Paula's place is closed down.

The food was great, old fashioned home-cooked meals. I could have made a meal just from the appetizer menu though.

What truly sets Gary's Oyster Shack apart is the service and attitude of the staff. My group and I had been on the job for 13 hours straight and were looking forward to one of the only places left open past 8. Gary's was listed somewhere as open until 8:30. We walked in and were greeted warmly, and told that the winter hours were only until 8. It being 8:03, we said our thank yous and turned around to leave. One of the staff offered 'The grill is still on - if you want to stay, we'll feed you!' After our long and exhausting day, to have these folks offer to extend their long and I'm sure equally exhausting day for us was just ... awesome. By the time we were finished, it looked like all of the plates had been licked clean. A couple of us even took some desert to go after delightful and satisfying meals. Holy cow! My cheesecake was unbelievable! I had the Shack Stack and can't recommend it highly enough. I enjoyed this place so much, I returned 14 hours later on my way to the airport to grab some lunch. Way to go Gary's Oyster Shack! 10 stars!

Unfortunately, today's lunch visit was disappointing. We stopped in around 1pm, and the restaurant was mostly empty aside from a few guests at the bar. The calamari was fantastic, easily the highlight of the meal. However, the rest of the experience fell short. Our food took quite a while to come out despite the restaurant not being busy. My father's burger arrived raw and had to be sent back, which was frustrating. I ordered the grouper sandwich. While the fish itself was cooked properly, it tasted bland and lacked seasoning. The portion of fish was also much larger than the bun, which made it awkward to eat, the fillet kept sliding out and falling apart. It just wasn't a good overall feel for a sandwich. Additionally, the service felt inattentive. Our waitress wasn't very engaged, and overall the experience didn't match the standard I've come to expect here. I'm hoping this was just an off day, as I've had great meals here before.

Best choice (for me) was a salad with grilled chicken. I asked for chicken well done, even at the risk of it being a little dry and was told curtly that " chicken is done on a timer" and that she'd " never had any issues with it." as expected, it was slightly undercooked: when I mentioned it to the same waitress, she rather rudely continued her argument and made no effort to rectify the problem. It would've taken probably an extra 30 seconds on the grill. Also, all salad dressings available were heavy, and the restaurant offered no plain oil and vinegar at all. Never seen "Balsamic" dressing was thick and tasted commercially bottled. Sadly, CB is not the friendly spot with the eclectic menu it used to be.
