Our family had an early Fathers Day dinner at Po Folks in Callaway, FL 06/18/1926. We are not new to Po Folks. The food and service were great. Everyone was very friendly and the food was great, especially the fried green tomatoes which I had been looking forward to all day. Service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Ate a seasonal dinner offering of Turkey! Food was prepared well and portions were good. Our waiter was attentive and he kept track of us. Ambience was a bit like a simple diner but kept very clean. There are other PoFolks in the area and can also recommend the one near Lynn Haven. read more

Overall our experience was good, service was friendly and prices acceptable. There is kind of a Cracker Barrel feel to the place, which is something we like. We each had the catfish dinner, the star of which is the catfish. And it was fried to perfection. The dinner comes with two whole perfectly fried catfish, two sides, and bread. We started with the fried mushrooms. Golden brown and hot with a creamy sauce. My sides included the baked apples which were perfectly sweet with cinnamon. I also had the "fried green T'maters" for 2.49 "extree". They are worth the up charge! My husband had the French fries and coleslaw. The steak fries were crisp outside and creamy inside. We returned the slaw because it seemed off but they quickly exchanged it. Overall it was a good visit and we highly recommend it. read more

It is very run down.we were seated and water started dripping on me. That should have been a sign to leave. The ceiling tiles are brown and moldy and the smell is off in there. The restrooms are old and needs updated. I got blackened whitefish, fried shrimp, black eye peas and macaroni and l cheese. The beans were bland. The macaroni was ORANGE!! It was horrible and my fish was lukewarm and supposed to be blackened and didn't taste right. Hubs for catfish (thought it was fillets) but was whole catfish and didn't taste good and he got fries snd coleslaw and the coleslaw was pure vinegar!!! And a drop of mayonnaise. Totally INEDIBLE. We came from out of town so had no clue what to expect. We were sat down almost instantly (5 in our party). Our waitress came to our table soon after and we order drinks and an appetizer. The kids meals were perfect sized and greatly priced. The adult entrees were so much food but so delicious. We ordered a blackberry and peach cobbler piece of pie for us to share. I was there for my lunch break and meeting my family. They refused to seat me without my whole family even though they had seven empty tables. My wife showed up and we asked to be seated since I was running out time. They still refused to seat us. We normally have good encounters there. I ordered got pick up 4 dinners at the Calloway restaurant. I ordered a 1/2 pound Chuck burger medium. Came out perfect. Also, 2 piece Kuntry fried steak with White Gravy, 2 sides of mashed potatoes with Brown Gravy, whole Shebang salad wHomers Buttermilk, a side of Italian dressing w breadstick, I had 2 pieces Fish grilled w squeeze of lemon, on rice w corn on the cob, baked potato w butter and sour cream. Everything came out delicious. I live near the Lynn Haven Po folks and they've always strived on quality and are consistent. Would definitely order from there again. read more

AMAZING!!! Visited here while on vacay at PCB. We love little hole in the wall places!! For starters we had: fried green tomatoes, gizzards, fried pickles and fried mushrooms. It fed all 6 of us and still had a bunch left to take home! For lunch the orders consisted of: Fried chicken, chicken & dumplins, smoked sausage, red beans & rice, green beans, Mac & cheese, mashed taters w/ gravy, corn on cob, baked tater, cheese grits and a house salad. The food came out fresh and right off the stove/grill. Soooo dang good!! All the starters were amazing and so is the Homer sauce! The salad was very basic, needs cheese added to it. The lunch dinners arrived perfect and hot! The chicken &!dumplings portion was huge with lots of chicken!! Mac & cheese was so cheesy and creamy!! Red beans & rice lack seasoning but once added salt/pepper it's was fine. Mashed potatoes were creamy and gravy was good. Everything truly was good! Dessert-we was full but can't leave without dessert!! We had the blackberry cobbler and chunky chocolate charmer and strawberry shortcake!! Large portions and so dang yummy!! All of it!! Went with a large party, 4 adults and 5 kids. The lady at the register says "we are very busy today and all these tables are still waiting for food!" There were people eating and open tables. This is how they treat people who choose to bring money into their establishment. No hello, no welcome. I imagine she has a problem with Hispanics visiting family from out of state. I can not believe that in 2023, people are still racist and prefer to lose money over there personal feelings. I had country fried steak, green beans, cornbread and mashed potatoes. None of the food has much flavor. I usually don't put salt on my food but it needed something. It didn't help. Country fried steak was nothing great the cornbread was cold along with the mashed potatoes. The potatoes tasted like instant potatoes that come out of a box. My wife had two pieces of chicken, okra and cabbage again it had no flavor and was cold. We decided to try PoFolks because it is always crowded. I am not real sure why that is. read more

The service was fine but there was surch poor communication between staff that we were sat down and no one came to our table for almost 10-15 minutes despite having 4+people on the floor. When they finally came to us the lady said she thought we wanted someone specific and never asked us. All the food brought to us was okay but mostly plain and boring with little to wow or make us want more. I had gotten the fried white fish and stuffed crabshell. The crab was good but all the additions to it overpowered the crab so it was basically just soggy bread and seasoning. The fish was a bit undercooked and really slimy. Then for dessert I had the mudpie which was basically just pie crust with undercooked box brownie. It was all really disappointing and honestly for the price we paid it was even more sad. read more

I haven't seen or been to a PoFolks in probably 15 years. So when traveling in the area, I gave it a shot. This visit was on a Sunday afternoon, the parking lot was packed to overflowing and only a couple tables were left open when I walked in. The "after church" crowd was in full force and that's a good sign! I'm calling my visit a 3 star, teetering on a 4. We were promptly seated and our server, wasn't far behind asking for drink orders. I ordered the "regular" burger, adding bacon and cheese, and it was pretty tasty. The fries were pretty good as well. Now for the teetering part....after the initial friendly interaction with our server, placing our order-n-such, we only saw her twice (cursory check and billing) and I was hoping to get a darn drink refill. This was well after the crowd had cleared out. Secondly, there are so many tables jammed in to this place it's tricky getting around when it's super busy. Lastly, the silverware is getting old and rusty....time to replace. I probably would go back to try something else on the really large menu read more

We always visit Po Folks when we come to the area. But the one in PCB went out of business after Hurricane Michael. We decided to drive a little further to try it again. It was fabulous! We got it to go and drove the 15 miles back to our condo. Everything was still warm/hot. The chicken coating is very crispy and flavorful. Wasn't a huge fan of the cornbread because it's more crispy like pan bread. And I caved at the register to get a mini moon pie - which was my first and it was pretty good read more

A big sign says do not seat yourself. I was solo. I stood there and stood there and no one said hello, no one said wait a minute. They ignored me. For over 5 minutes I stood there. Other eaters kept looking at me, like me they were wondering how long are they going to leave me standing there. After a little over 5 minutes I left. Apparently they didn't want me there. read more

Let me preface this by saying I'm a long time PoFolk's fan, probably since 1988 when I would visit on vacation. And USUALLY I would write todays terrible experience off to a bad server... but there was more to it that that. I came in, and was seated promptly by a young man at the counter, and given a menu... which I was able to study for 12 minutes before anyone came to take a drink order or anything. After the wait I will say this, the food was excellent for the most part, and super hot, right off the cooker (The red beans and rice and okra have gone down hill over the years, but everything else was as good as expected) So as I'm eating, I finish my drink, and I push my empty glass to the edge of the table so it's easier for the server to see it's empty.... 7 minutes later I get a refill. When I finish my meal I stack up all my plates, and glasses and bowls (In case you can't tell, I've had server friends my whole life), and waited nearly 15 minutes for someone to come with my check. And THEN they didn't have the check on them, so I had to wait a few more minutes to for them to go get it. So let me explain why this wasn't just a bad server, or a busy day. There were 5 tables with people seated in them other than me. And I saw at LEAST 3 servers, I think I saw a 4th as I was paying my bill. The other servers were quite attentive to their tables, mine... I'm not judging, she could have been having a really bad day, or have a health issue, I don't know... but none of these other servers, 2 of which walked past my table frequently to get to theirs asked if they could refill, or asked if I needed anything as I sat there for almost 15 minutes with a stack of dishes. It tells me that there's probably a policy against helping other tables, or something that has scared servers from helping each other's customers. It was just really strange. read more

The worst service I have ever had. No leadership. Still waiting to pay for food it has been thirty minutes. People came in after us were served had their desert before we were. Upper management needs to get involved and fix this problem. I will never go back and I will certainly let other know about this horrible restaurant. read more

I like Po Folks....I've been to both in town.Although the one on 15th st. is much larger.they both are clean.Prices are fair.The food is good at both and consistency of presentation and quality is as well. Kids nite is Wednesdays and there is a clown with face painting and balloon animals.Which I must say the clown was very good at....made my friends daughter a monkey holding a banana....never seen that one before! My family enjoys this place......cant ask for more! read more

Kids portions are a great size! Fish samwich entree was soggy and tasteless (grilled). Hubby got the seafood platter, said his was soggy too. Great service though! Tanya was great :) will try again! read more

We had a very pleasant experience eating lunch here for the first time. Ashlee was an excellent server and very patient with us Yankees and all if our questions. 3 adults an 3 children 4, and 3 and 1 years old. The food was very good and the prices very reasonable. I eat at Po Folks in Callaway for lunch about once a month. My wife and I enjoy the food and love the Fried Chicken and cooked cabbage! I stopped eating there for lunch a few years ago because it took too long to get your food after your order was place. I started going again, in the last year, the food comes out much quicker than before and is doable for a one hour lunch. As the other review from Vicki W., prices are fair, the food and consistency are good. I am dissappointed to learn that cane syrup is no longer available, only maple. Also, diet salad dressings and/or oil and vinegar are not available. I would recommend eating here and I'll look for you at lunch. :) read more

The Po Folks in Callaway is very hit or miss. What I mean is that when they have a good staff in the food is outstanding. I have been here before when I could easily say it was the best meal I have had in months. At other times, they have food that taste old, reheated, and just bad. They last trip we had hush puppies that had been redipped in hot grease so they were sopping wet with grease on the outside and cold on the inside. The cabbage tasted more like vinegar than cabbage and when we told the waitress about it she said they had gotten other complaints on it that day also......I told her they shouldn't be serving it then....she just stared at me with a blank look. read more

This place was not our first choice of places to eat. We first went to Backyard Burgers (see our review of that place to see why we left). After having a horrible experience at Backyard Burgers we wanted to find somewhere to eat that was a little more "family" oriented. We had seen the commercial for Po Folks while staying at Mexico Beach. As we were heading back to our room in Mexico Beach we passed Po Folks as we were leaving Panama City. On a whim I pulled in. We went inside and were seated. Almost as soon as we were seated a very nice young lady came over to begin serving us. I wish I knew her name, because she was a very nice, young lady, that was friendly and competent (very different from the staff at Backyard Burgers). It was Memorial day evening around 7PM, and she was very petite if that helps identify her. Anyway, there was not one thing about this experience that was less that fantastic. The food is delicious. The prices were very reasonable, the staff were delightful. Even the manager (I assume he was), came over to our table and talked with us for a bit about our vacation. Even the cashier was nice when we paid our bill. All in all, I am glad that we have the horrible experience that we had at Backyard Burgers. Because if we would have eaten there, we would not have found this nice little treasure called Po Folks. We will surely come here again. read more
