While there was about an hour-long wait, the care we received more than made up for it. Every single person we interacted with from the front desk staff to the nurse, the tech, and Dr. Curnyn was incredibly kind, caring, and professional. Our daughter was extremely anxious, and they went out of their way to put her at ease at every step of the visit. Dr. Curnyn's bedside manner was exceptional - truly some of the best I've seen from a pediatric doctor in a long time. She even went above and beyond by helping us look up a follow-up doctor in New York in case we needed continued care once we returned home. We are so grateful for the compassion and expertise we experienced here.

I have been an 8 year (loyal) patient of Suburban Associates in Ophthalmology (unfortunately). You…read moreare put thru about 1.5 hours of multiple types of eye exams by semi skilled staff only to have 10 minutes with a Doctor. who does an exam dictating in medical terminology to staff and then just walks out, not explaining his findings to me. Then I was told to set up a patient portal for that info. At one point it was discussed for me to have a cornea scraping but I would have to sign a release that I accept all responsibility up to including blindness. I told them I would have to think about it because it's pretty scary. For about 3 months they kept calling asking me to schedule the procedure. I finally had to tell them DON'T CALL ME again! If I decide I want to take the risk, I WILL CALL THEM! Thankfully the calls stopped. At my recent annual eye exam in Jan 2026, I agreed (for first time) to have them do the visual acuity exam where they try different lenses (1 or 2) to form a prescription for new glasses. I was surprised that Doctors don't do that there (as I soon realized) it was done by a poorly trained or unskilled staff member. I had the glasses made at Costco and my vision was terrible! Left vision wasn't great and right eye vision was totally blurred. I had the Costco tech checked the lenses who confirmed the lenses matched the prescription. I then paid for a SECOND eye exam where an actual DOCTOR (in Costco) who did the eye exam! I then ordered a SECOND pair of glasses and my vision was GREAT in BOTH eyes. So then i went in to Suburban Assoc. and asked for a $50 refund for their "botched" eye exam. I gave them the documentation of both lens prescriptions for their tech there and the Doctor in Costco. I was told the office manager wasn't in. I asked for her to call me, which she never did. So every few days I called (over 10 days) she wouldn't take my call or return my call. I finally talked to a sympathetic staff member who said the office manager can't approve a $50 refund (even with proof of incompetence). She told me, MY Doctor (of 8 years) has to approve it and he hasn't yet (over 10 days). I asked, there are about 9 doctors there and none of them can approve a $50 refund with proof of their botched exam? It's a sad situation, they just don't care or appreciate an 8 year patient. I expected them to apologize and promptly offer me the $50 refund or pay me for the $80 at Costco I paid for an exam with a highly skilled Eye Doctor! "I can always Dream, can't I"

This office was a good office when Dr. Kozial was still there and Dr. Thoms was there full time…read more The departure of Kozial whom has retired and Dr. Thoms now a part-time this practice had gone way down in regarding patient care. In 2023 my husband was having issues with his eyes of redness, watery drainage as well as eye pressure issues starting of glaucoma. They prescribed an eye pressure eye drop with preservatives and also said he had starting of conjunctivitis in his eyes as well. He went for a follow-up in regarding the redness and watery eyes and his vision changing to where he could not see. They ignored his concerns and told him to continue to use the prescribed eye drop which he was allergic to. He called and they send him to a glaucoma specialist. By the time he was able to see the glaucoma specialist both of his eyes the retina became detached at the same time in both eyes. The glaucoma specialist cannot prove it but it is very possible the eye drops he was given for eye pressure was a steroid drop with preservatives caused his eyes to become very soft and caused his retina detachments in both eyes. Now after 2 years of treatment of retina re-attachments he is still blind. Just maybe if they would have listened to the allergic reaction to the eye drops and had him stop them and prescribed something that is preservative free this could have ben avoid his retina's detaching in both eyes? No way to prove for sure it but very disappointed with the Dr. decision to continue to using the drops he was given. Sadly he never going back even though he likes Dr. Thoms very much a very caring Dr. and very highly educated She was not on staff full-time to take of his needs and concerns. This practice went from a 5 star with Dr. Koziol to a 2 since there is not full-time Dr. that is competent with patient care. Now his current glaucoma specialist has him on preservative free eye drops and eye ointments. His specialist has found he is allergic to all steroid eye drops, eye ointments with preservatives and has to stay clear from them all.
