I am a 34 year old police officer that has been plagued with poor vision for most of my life. My whole family went through LASIK and PRK, but my eyes were too bad for those procedures. I was referred to Dr Epstein in 2023 for a procedure called Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL). As I was tired of my eyes being tired all the time from contacts and glasses, plus the inherent risks of wearing them at my job I pursued the surgery with Dr Epstein and Chicago Cornea. First off, I could not be happier with staff at the offices. They were professional and kind and I rarely had to wait long to be seen. Second off, Dr Epstein was great to work with. He was able to answer every question and I never felt uncomfortable. Now to answer the question about ICL. I could not be happier with the results of the surgery. Within days of the surgery I was able to see "normally", which I had not experienced since I was 8 years old. 14 months later and my eyes are 20/20. I do not experience tired or dry eyes and I do not have problems with bright lights and "haloing" as several of my friends and family experience still from LASIK and PRK. Ultimately I feel the ICL surgery is a life saver for me and my job as I need to be able to see in great detail and in any conditions without fail. If you are not a candidate for LASIK or PRK, do not hesitate to see if you are a candidate for ICL. My only regret is not finding the procedure sooner (it's been around for quite some time). read more

Three hour wait to be seen for 5 minutes. Don't go! there are better doctors, better places

Had right eye cataract surgery and paid extra for special lense and laser. Laser cut opening was too large and I needed surgery and a new lense.,Still can not see well in that eye. I guess I should be grateful he repaired the faulty laser incision and I avoided complications.,Had the left eye done, special lense and no laser (he didn't trust it). Had severe pain the right eye after after surgery. There was no answer from any of the contact numbers. Finally the next morning, I was able to get an earlier post op appointment. I was there at 9am but did not get seen by the Post Op Optometrist (Dr Faron) until 2pm. He took off the patch and I was blind in the left eye. He talked to an Ophthalmologist in the hallway about it, and determined it was inflammation and come back the following week. I felt it was something more and walked into Midwest Retina in the same building that same day. They kindly examined me as an emergency walk-in.They saved me from blindness because I acted quickly. I highly recommend that group! . I had a major staph infection and I needed immediate Antibiotic shots in my eye, eye biopsies, antibiotics, drops , etc. They treated me almost every day for a week and continually for 3 months. Eventually some of my left eye vision returned, but I still can not see well with both eyes. I also developed severe glaucoma after this. I never went back to Dr Epstein. I think he has too many patients to treat and followup with--practice too large,; the office protocol and contact info is deficient ; he may have some issues performing certain procedures. It is sad that I could not reach anyone when I had complications and then my follow-up took all day and I was banned from seeing an Ophthalmologist PostOp...especially when I was blind as a result of their surgery. read more

I hadn't planned on writing a Yelp review regarding Dr. Epstein but then I saw how stacked his reviews are and got nervous that people may not see that a few people figured out a way to update their reviews and get credit for two to four 4 and 5 star reviews, thereby falsely upgrading reviewers' opinions of both him and his services. It is for this reason I am writing my review. Dr. Epstein cam e to me highly recommended. However, had I bothered to look at his online video, I may have realized his success rate is as tainted as the manner in which his positive reviews are being submitted. His video is much more truth-oriented and clearly demonstrates his disdain for anyone not willing to pay his fees. In my particular case, I was more than willing to pay his fees and it is only by the grace of G'd, I didn't. Dr. Epstein hand picks his cases based upon how little risk he faces in gaining a most positive outcome. His definitive preference are easy cases from patients willing to pay his up-charges. In my case, I came as a highly myopic patient. After my exam Dr. Epstein told me I should have low expectations regarding my outcome. He did not explain why he felt that way. In fact, he never did. I told him I had no expectations and he responded that I should even lower those! How nuts is that!!!! After leaving me in a state of terror, he then brought me in for measurements for the procedure. After that, he cancelled the surgery and told me he would not be able to reschedule for more than an additional two-and-a-half months. When I said I couldn't go that long, his staff suggested I go Elsewhere. When I found another doctor athat happened to be part of his cooperative group, they cancelled my appointment twice and then sent me a letter from Dr. Epstein officially dismissing me as their client. When I responded by telling them if this was the case, and in deference to the weeks of delay I wanted them to cancel their insurance claim against me, they got all huffy and told me it really wasn't my concern since the insurance would pay it anyway and I had no choice, so I should just let it go. How scummy is that? Stay far away from him and his group. Wish someone could catch him for insurance fraud because when you read the negative reviews you will find what they did with me is not an unfamiliar practice for them. So, patient beware!! And look well beyond Yelp where it appears multiple reviews from the same source are considered separate reviews, and individually independent star ratings rather than simply allowing a patron to update their review and score a product, service or professional on a single basis entry. read more

Dr. Epstein is a perfectionist.. He did an amazing job on my lasik procedure and now i can see perfectly without any glasses or contacts.. It has been nearly 10 years since my procedure with him and i have experienced no side effects.. i developed an allergy to my contact lenses so i could no longer wear them and my son who is autistic would not tolerate me wearing glasses.. (he would try to take them off while I was driving! ) so i had to man up and get the surgery. I am very glad i did.. although no medical procedure is without risks, i would recommend dr. epstein very highly. He will make sure you have the best outcome possible. read more

I am beyond thrilled that I decided to do Lasik. I had been wearing glasses since 2nd grade and contacts since 5th, and had developing infections in my eyes. Dr. Epstein encouraged me to do Lasik and promised it would be life-changing - and it has been! Dr. Epstein set the realistic expectations for me that my eyes would be dry for a bit after the surgery, that I may see halo lights in the dark, and he was right that I did but they are now long gone. I recently saw Dr. Epstein for an emergency eye injury and I'm so glad I did. I was experiencing severe pain in my eye, and when I called to get an appointment, he was able to see me right away, diagnose the problem (a tiny piece of metal lodged in my cornea!), expertly and painlessly remove it, and administer excellent follow-up care. I am so grateful to Dr. Epstein and his staff for their care, precision, professionalism and expertise - and so is my vision! read more

I never write review before, but I really need to write this. He is terrible to be honest, discrimination, careless! Never ever choose him if you have another choice, if you dont, i feel so sorry for that. The reason I said that is because, whenever I let him know what happened to me, he said its normal and I will be fine. It's been a year after my Lasik procedure done by Dr. Epstein, and I am so grateful I was able to do this. The procedure was simple and I felt very comfortable being cared for at the Highland Park location. The doctor was very thorough explaining the procedure and how to care for my eyes after that. The staff was friendly and very helpful when it came time to fill out all the paperwork. The surgical coordinator (Carly) was there waiting with me for the doctor to call me back and she was helping me stay calm since I was feeling a bit nervous. She is kind and helpful. During the procedure, Dr. Epstein was constantly checking up and asking how I was feeling and doing. After it was all over, I went home to get some rest, I later found out he took the time to call my father to check up on me and how I was doing. My post op appointments went great and my vision is also great. No more glasses, no more contacts, only great vision. If you are not sure or scared about the procedure, don't be. The doctors at Chicago Cornea are very helpful when it comes to answering any questions you might have because they know what they are doing and they care about their patient's well being. They will check to see if you are a candidate for this procedure and go from there. I had been looking into getting LASIK for a very long time. A family member who had LASIK with Dr. Randy Epstein suggested I go see him for a consultation. I called to schedule a consultation the receptionist I spoke to was very nice and explained what was needed of me as a patient the day of the visit, it was explained to me that this appointment would be a long appointment but I have to say it was worth the wait. The staff was very nice from the beginning from the front desk, technicians and surgical coordinator, who scheduled my procedure. They all answered any questions I had the day of my consultation. Dr. Epstein explained the procedure to me throughly and made me feel comfortable with moving forward with the procedure. The day of the procedure I was very nervous but was reassured by the staff that things would be okay and that I was in good hands with Dr. Epstein. I'm beyond happy with my vision after LASIK. I am now able to wake up and see without worrying about where I left my glasses or having to put on contacts. I had RK surgery with Dr. Epstein in 1996, when Lasik was not as common. I instantly loved my results. Almost 20 years later, my vision is still perfect.
