The 40s have brought bags to my eyes among many other joys of aging (i partly blame my 3 children :)). One of my friends mentioned she had a great consultation with Dr. Tamara Fountain about a lower blepharoplasty so I decided to do the same. I also noticed that she was highly recommended on a fb group i had joined all about blepharoplasty, although the pics of people post surgery on that fb group were enough to make me want to cancel my appointment. I was able to get an appointment a few weeks after calling. Her office is conveniently located near my house, which I liked since the other doctors i was referred to were in the city or far suburbs. I was seen within minutes of arriving for my appointment. They did an eyesight test which i wasn't expecting and didn't put my contacts in that morning (and my glasses were in the car). So i highly recommend bringing any corrective eyewear you have. Dr. Fountain did a great job of explaining why i have bags (thank you genetics). She then told me she didn't think I needed surgery for many years and I really appreciated her honesty. She did show me some more post surgery pics to properly scare me about future surgery, but I do appreciate knowing what I would be getting myself into. She suggested looking into med spa treatments and even gave me some names (one located within her office) and said to come back years from now...and in the meantime to send my mom. :) Overall, I was really impressed with the way she explained everything and her honesty. I'd highly recommend if on the hunt for an ophthalmologist. read more

She performed ptosis repair on one eye, and an upper bleph on both eyes. The ptosis correction was overcorrected. Post-op , I asked her if there was a revision available. She reached for her "Horrors of Possible Risks Picture Binder," and told me I was welcome to consult with another surgeon. Meanwhile, that eye didn't fully close. I had dry eye, constantly. That eye CROSSED if I opened my eyes wide. I was advised by my ophthalmologist to "wait a while to see if it settles down." It didn't. Another (excellent) oculoplastic surgeon performed corrective surgery (to the corrective surgery), and removed scar tissue. That mostly improved the eye crossing, but the eye still doesn't close when I sleep. I now have to have further surgery to severe my orbitalis muscle and re-attach it, then possibly another surgery for repair if that causes droopy eye. All of this is covered by my insurance, and my insurance surely would have paid Dr Fountain. ANY plastic surgeon I've consulted performs revisions if something goes haywire. But, not Dr. Fountain. I would not recommend Dr. Fountain for any eye surgery. After her surgery my eyes were extremely asymmetrical. It was difficult to find a surgeon willing to attempt a revision to correct the issue caused by the initial surgery and it will take at least two surgeries to improve the asymmetry. read more

My droopy eyelids were driving me crazy, I needed to raise my eyebrows to lift them in order to see better. Dr. Fountain was very thorough in explaining everything about the surgery. The surgery went smoothly and the staff was friendly and helpful. I'm so happy I can see my eyes again! Dr. Fountain was great! I had a very good experience. read more

The staff was courteous. They got me in for an emergency on the same day. And there was hardly any wait once I was there.

I've been bugging Dr. Fountain for two years following a procedure she performed on me to repair a Ptosis (drooping lid) condition. It was my belief that the procedure she performed was not a success and her efforts, in my opinion, were barely discernible. When I kept returning to seek her agreement for a possible revision, she repeatedly responded that she had performed the procedure "to professional standards" and that I should seek another physician. She opined "You would never be satisfied with anything I could do." Well, maybe I'm expecting too much of this highly-regarded ophthalmologist. Are surgeons the only judges of how well they perform? Susan the office manager is great and tries very hard to accommodate and help patients. Dr. Fountain was very nice and helpful before and during the procedure. My eye doctor recommended her. A year after the procedure I went to her with concern over a bump that appeared over my eye and asked if she could correct this. Sadly she was firm about yes she could do the correction, but she could not guarantee it would improve. Then she quoted me the price for this in-office surgery correction. I was pretty surprised that she didn't back up her original work and would charge me substantially, nor was she sure she could make the correction successful. I ended up going to a top notch plastic surgeon in the city who removed the bump with a small procedure and corrected things beautifully. Had to pay of course, but was guaranteed it would be corrected. He was so nice and would not tell me the issue was overlooked in the initial procedure. He just said that each surgeon has their own techniques and his would not have caused that bump to happen. read more

I went to Dr. Fountain upon recommendation from my retina specialist. Her willingness to offer any advice on the procedure left me frustrated. I went to her considering an upper and lower lid procedure. I wondered if she recommended doing them separately or at the same time. (She was the 3rd and final Dr. I consulted for this procedure and both other physicians had opinions to consider on both scenarios) She merely stated that she could not "make decisions for me and that this was not her job." Huh? She also declined to offer recommendations on my dry eye and suggested that I peruse the ocular health section of a drug store. Both other surgeons addressed my chronic dry eye (which can potentially be aggravated by the procedure) and offered products which may help with that. Furthermore, she never ONCE touched my eyes or felt the eye lids or surrounding tissues. Both other surgeons touched and examined the tissue.Truthfully, she seemed like a robot, albeit competent and knowledgeable. I surrounded by medical professional and, in fact, married to one. I felt her personal investment in my health was non-interested, at best. Although, I will not be returning to her office and believe that she is likely competent to complete the procedures I was interested in, I will be going back to the first plastic surgeon consulted, as he was sincere and seemed more caring, professional and compassionate toward a patient who's ambivalent and needed a little bit of hand holding...something she was not remotely interested in doing. read more

Dr. Fountain has been treating me for Graves' Eye Disease (thyroid eye disease) for about 2+ years, and could not recommend her more highly. She has shown tremendous care, concern, patience, and compassion while the disease has run its' course and I could finally get surgery. This disease is frustrating, confusing, and can be scary while you watch your eyes change, and I met with several doctors before entrusting Dr. Fountain. She made me feel instantly comfortable, never rushes through an appointment, thoroughly answers questions, has great follow-up, and in the end she also referred me to a terrific ENT doctor (Joseph Raviv) who did an endoscopic sinus surgery to provide relief for the eyes. Dr. Fountain encouraged me to do this surgery as a first step, versus a more invasive surgery that she herself would have performed, which showed she puts her patient's long term interest ahead of her own. She also followed up post-surgery to see how I was healing and to schedule an appointment to touch base. It's hard to find this level of service and care nowadays, where you are a person instead of just a patient. I joke that she has been my guardian angel throughout the course of this disease and am incredibly grateful for her guidance/expertise/support throughout. She is a wonderful doctor--one of the best!! read more
