I've been here many times and always find the food very good. The only problem I have is the time it takes to get your food. It doesn't matter if i'm there early ,during their busiest time or after the busy period it always takes a long time. I don't know how anyone with a set time for lunch hour could possibly go there. If you are looking for a GREAT hand made burger these are TO DIE FOR! When I want a quality tasty burger I dream about these. They also serve hand cut FF that are perfect with the burgers. Love the fried pickles. Maybe one day I will try one of the other offerings they have but I just can't give up the cheeseburgers. They are the BEST in the area. Cool that they are right on old RT 66 too. They have markers which you can autograph the ceiling with which is cool. Names from all over up there. My wife had wanted to drive down to the Launching Pad so I obliged and found that place to be closed (still stopped for a pic or two with the gemini giant). We kept going and found Nelly's. What a great place. The burgers are delicious! Hand cut fries and onion rings (more like strings) are amazing. I had a combo with very flavorful beef and sausage. Original Animal House and Blues Brothers posters adorn the walls along with nostalgic chotchkies. We'll be back. read more

Nellys is a great addition to wilmington as far as dining goes. I have been eating at Nellys for two years and have yet to have an unsatisfactory meal. The hand cut fries are excellent as well as my personal favorite, their Reuben sandwich. The BBQ pulled chicken is equally as delicious. The other great thing is the service. As far as I am concerned for a semi fast food diner it is excellent. A big plus is the price, as far as quality lunch food goes you cannot beat it. We stopped here today for the first time. I had one of the best Ruben sandwiches ever. All of our food was delivered to the table hot & was delish. The Ruben was made fresh with freshly sliced corned beef from the brisket. Everything was perfect. The fries were homemade. My daughter's burger & loaded fries were delish as well. I haven't been there a whole lot but they have excellent fries and a great atmosphere and hangout. The only thing I don't like is the cashier looks at you as if she knows everything about you and you are wondering if she is judging you which is kind of wierd. read more

Not too shabby. Everyone was very friendly and the food was prepared well (with the exception of the hush puppies which seemed a bit undercooked inside). There's only one cook, however, so with our 5 person group our food didn't come out all at once. The macaroni and cheese was some of the cheesiest I've ever had and the chicken fingers were pretty good. Everyone enjoyed the fries and the burgers they ordered as well. Nellys has just about everything you can think of, from burgers to tacos. But despite all the hype, theyre just kinda... Meh. I got their Mac n' cheese once, never again. It was so bland, no amount of salt pepper or bbq could make it better. There's nothing on the menu that I actually like. But aside from the food, the service is decent. Mostly teenagers after school. They don't go out of their way for you, but they're not jerks soo..? Overall, ive gone there like 3 times. Once when I first moved to town and twice durring catfish days last year. I have yet to try anything other than a hamburger since Nelly's makes awesome burgers. Fries seem fresh. They also serve beer. From the outside, Nelly's doesn't look like much but inside the decor is too fun. I can't believe they had a New Glarus Beer sign....in Illinois! Of course you can't get New Glarus Beer in IL, but it was pretty cool. Lots of retro and rt 66 stuff plus local sports teams. You can even sign your name on the ceiling or doodle on a chalk board. I stopped in here because of the "home cut fries" sign. I didn't know what to order because everything on the menu sounded good. The girls in the kitchen were making patties from fresh hamburger meat so I opted for the cheeseburger and I have to say it was amazing! I love a good burger but this was beyond anything I expected. My family and I tried this place yesterday, and holy wow was is amazing. It's got a dive like atmosphere with some really tasty food. The menu selection is huge, it took us about 10 minutes to figure out what we wanted because there's so much to chose from! My boyfriend got the Route 66 dog and the loaded fries, and he devoured it. I got a double with bacon, cheddar, tomato, lettuce on a pretzel bun and parmesan garlic fries. It was the best burger and fries I've had in a very long time. Our son got the mini corn dogs and thought my fries and burger were more delicious. Very naughty food, but perfect for a cheat meal. We will definitely be coming back! read more

We stopped here for an early dinner with our three kids. My Reuben was probably the best I've ever had. I also had Cajun fries, which were awesome. My husband was quite impressed with his burger. The kids meals were portioned well, and although my daughter wasn't crazy about her corn dogs, my son liked his. My other son loved his chicken tenders. The kids loved writing on the wall! I ate here once and had wings and a burger. The wings were huge and decent. The burger was also pretty good. The only thing that is stopping me from giving this place an adequate rating, as it is probably the best food in scummy Wilmington, is that halfway through my burger, I pulled out a hair that was 5-6 inches long. I understand that these things happen and I keep saying that I will give them another chance, but I haven't been able to do it yet. It put me off. Maybe one day I will though, because as far as flavor, the food really does deserve more than the 2 star rating that I am giving. read more

From the outside it seems like the usual hot dog joint, but this place is much more. The menu is full of specialty burgers and other unique items like The Hog sandwich. My favorite is the bacon wrapped dog. They also have a kid's menu. read more

Went 3 times in 2 weeks. First time they nailed a medium rare burger juicy that tasted great. The other 2 times, disappointed over cooked well done dry burger. I gave them benefit of doubt for visit #2, because there was a huge crowd, and they really don't have a short order cook so I went back for #3. There was only one other order, and they over cooked the burger again. Problem is that they are inconsistent. I taunted the place to friends and now I'm embarrassed for sending them. Wine Cafe next door said they would deliver. Even says that on the web site. We ordered but had to go pay and get the food. Kind of an interruption of a nice evening. To top it off no napkins or ketchup were delivered with the food. The southwestern chicken wrap had no cheese or guacamole on it and was not seasoned but loaded with hot sauce. Nelly's provides some of the best quality and variety in Wilmington as far as a what you would expect from a 'hot dog" joint. Everything is freshly made and while you may have to wait a few more minutes for your food it means that the taste is going to be far superior to going someplace comparable in town.
