Nellie Bly's is your quintessential small town ice cream spot. It was so sad when this sweet spot burned down a few year ago, but we are so happy to see it back up and running. The ambiance is a huge part of what makes Nellie Bly's, Nellie Bly's! There's a model train that circles to the ceiling, movies projected onto the wall, the most adorable tables and chairs, especially for the kids. A perfect place to swing by with the entire family! The establishment is fueled by Bassetts Ice Cream, aka some of the best. Cookie Monster and Guatemalan Ripple are my two favorite flavors. J typically opts for a milkshake of sorts, which never disappoint...and so many other yummy options. While I've never tried the waffle sundae, it looks INSANE! If you dine in, your order is served in the sweetest little dishes and the overall vibe is just immaculate! This is the cutest vintage ice cream parlor close by. The staff is super friendly and helpful. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday around 4 PM. We were the only ones in the shop to order but once we got our icecream a flood of people came in so we definitely beat the rush. This is definitely a bang for your buck with really tasty icecream. I'm displeased with myself that I didn't get pictures while there. My son and I decided to take a trip over the bridge to try this place because it looked so cute and it really is. They have a big selection of ice cream and toppings. My son got cookie dough ice cream in a bowl. When you order in a bowl it comes in like a Chinese food take out carton sort of. I ordered a scoop of strawberry and a scoop of sweet and salty pretzel I think it was called. Unfortunately I didn't know the pretzels in the ice cream were chocolate covered which I'm allergic too so I couldn't eat them but the ice cream itself was good. We went Friday night around 7:30-8 and it was filled with teenage kids, seems like a cute little hangout. I plan to go back soon to try some other flavors and of course get some pics. Last night we wanted something different so we made our way over to Nelly Bly's. We had high hopes with all of the positive reviews from yelp. Stepping into this place is like taking a step back in time. Vintage feel with all the modern flavors. They offer bar seating and an ample amount of tables, including children's tables. They do accept credit cards, a previous review said they didn't. It wasn't very crowded for a warm night but it was busy enough. They have an extensive amount of flavors and they use top quality Bassets ice cream. I believe Bassets has the best ice cream around. It's extremely hard to find. Their prices are a bit high but again, it's quality ice cream. We paid $24.00 for 3 sundaes. Overall I would give Nelly Bly's 4 stars but there was a major issue with my Skookie last night. Yes, I ordered their famous Skookie which is a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie with 2 scoops of ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry. As I said previously the ice cream was good. The cookie was as well until I found my issue. I was shocked to see whipped cream from a can, with the prices I expected fresh whipped cream. My wife's sundae was delicious just as expected. It was banana and coconut ice cream with whipped cream and cherry. I must say though that the owner is extremely nice and when I brought up the issues she was beyond apologetic. Nelly Bly's is an old fashioned ice cream parlor manned by teenagers and primarily for families. They manage the crowd well and serve up all the classics like sundaes, bannana splits, milkshakes, malts, and cones. They make waffles right there and the place is redolent with the smell of freshly ironed carbs. A milkshake is 3 scoops of ice cream, milk, and a shot of syrup. There is a more expensive version that adds a "topping" like oreo pieces. They have suggestions but easily handled my custom job: 2 scoops vanilla peanut butter, 1 scoop banana, shot of chocolate syrup. On a different night I tweaked it: 1 scoops vanilla peanut butter, 2 scoop banana, shot of chocolate syrup. yes, I was trying for a chunky monkey milkshake. The later worked better. Eat dinner where you like on 130 but save room for dessert and come here. read more

Located in a cute little town right across the bridge from Philly. Stepping into the place was as if we had stepped foot into another time. A warm fresh baked ... yes fresh baked chocolate chip cookie cooked the size of a paper plate in a hot skillet and then topped with two scoops and two toppings. I got Guatemalan ripple and English toffee with hot fudge and sprinkles. The Guatemalan ripple is for the coffee lovers, and the English toffee is smooth and creamy and awesome. My friend got the cookies and cream on a waffle cone which was looking real appetizing as I waited for my cookie to bake (12 minutes) call ahead if your inpatient but it is worth the wait. We are locals, and we love this place. Lots of good basic classic ice cream choices, waterice, and shakes. And the shakes... awesome malted shakes... Old time feel, calm decor, fun vintage throwback without being cheap plastic. Did I mention the shakes? I'm on a low-carb sugar free kick, I really enjoy that they have true sugar free ice cream. (at least one flavor..).. Its a treat! Eat in, or our favorite is to walk a few blocks down old victorian streets down to the river and watch the sunset or boat races, - its almost too perfect and classic and sadly often lost Americana in a nice quiet town. I love Nelly Bly's! They are close to the train station, have a great selection of flavors and Sundaes and have great specials. The staff has always been helpful and agreeable. Sure they don't take credit cards, but if you've been there more than once you are aware of that fact. If you have little kids, it is a fantastic place for a birthday party and very affordable! For that reason alone Nelly Bly's gets its 5 stars. Plus, during the off season, they'll open up and have special parties near the holidays. At 9:00 on a recent Sunday night, I was in need of some quick comfort food after attending a nearby funeral. Suffice to say my options were limited at this off-hour, so I wound up at this little shop in the center of (for me) never before visited 'downtown' Riverton. I'm happy to say that by keeping things simple and reasonably priced (coughcough-overhyped Gelato places that require a bank loan for a small cup and try to dazzle you with inexplicable flavors that have no business in a freezer-coughcough), Nelly Bly's came through big time. Simplicity was the watchword here and the hifalutin shops could learn a lesson. Admittedly, it's pretty hard to go wrong with a warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookie topped with two scoops of ice cream, pineapple and wet walnut toppings, and a swirl of whipped cream with a cherry on top. But if the formula works, why mess with it? Nelly Bly's doesn't and provided exactly what I needed on a depressing Sunday night in late summer. Being 53 years old, I was, of course, 35+ years older than everybody else in the place (a sprinkling of kids as closing time approached), which apparently is the norm here. So if you're self-conscious about that kind of thing, stuff your pockets with a pile of twenty dollar bills and head to those other places. I can only say that once I tucked into my yummy plate of gooey goodness, satisfaction reigned. And the local kids were perfectly behaved and polite. I paid my bill, left a generous tip, and still had the $2 I needed to make it over the Tacony Bridge and head home. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll return to Nelly Bly's.
