The first lady that helped me on the first floor, charged the most expensive dress TWO times. It was $690.00, when I brought it up she said there were two dresses and they were both the same price. I said no they are not. One is a designer, the other one is not. The one that was NOT a known designer, and was NOT as expensive, was already in the charged pile, but it had NOT been charged. The expensive one (she charged twice) was still on the unpaid pile It seemed to me, she was trying to give me a freebie (the less expensive one,) so she could charge twice for the expensive one, and then take an expensive one herself.. The whole thing did not make sense! She was embarrassed and couldn't look at me after that. And mind you, the expensive long silk dress would have looked amazing on her, as she had a small waist, big curvaceous hips and big aftro hair. She was beautiful..
Then I went to the second floor. The short dyed blonde hair lady with an accent, helped me for a little while. All was fine until she started telling me the very very expensive dress I liked, was the largest size the company made. She mentioned this twice. I said, "I'm asking if my breasts are too tight in this, not if you have a bigger size, or if the company made it in a bigger size.."
she smiled. As it turns out, the company made 2 larger sizes, the 48 and the 50.
When checking out, she asked for my address twice, once covering the screen, as testing me and as if I was not that person. Then she said there are 2 addresses on file for you. I said "Yes." She asked why I have 2 addresses?
I said because I have 2 homes and I moved during the pandemic and I get things shipped to my second address, but my ID has the first address..
She said she needed my ID, I gave it to her. She kept looking at it and said I will need to scan it. I was right there, and I mentioned I had been shopping at this store for years, every time I am in town and no one ever scanned my ID. She said it was an old thing, since 2 years ago. And that the computer was asking for it. It was not. I was standing right next to her.. said I had been there a few months ago and no one had scanned my ID. She kept the ID in her hand. Kept checking the credit card. Finally she blurted, the ID and Credit Card don't match. I said "please give my me ID, and I showed her the entire name. IT MATCHED! She then in a panic said ok ok, please insert your card. Then she desperately pleaded with me to finish the transaction. I said no, I do not want to buy from you and walked away. I continued shopping downstairs, bought 6 pairs of shoes, then had the guy get the expensive dress. She had hidden it in the back,"on hold" so I could not purchase from someone else. The new sweet guy found it and brought it down, but the same suspicious saleslady with the accent, came down saying it should be her commission. When the manager was called, I said I would not purchase the dress if the "profiler" was going to get the commission. That was the end of it. The sweet new guy got the commission and I got the dress!
The lady had profiled me because I had a sweat suit on. I had gone to the dentist early in the morning for a cavity filling which I hadn't been able to fill since the pandemic, and it was a cold morning..
My heart goes out to all the people that get profiled by the color of the skin, or the clothes we wear.. We should be able to dress comfortably, especially if we are going to be walking for hours, and on our feet, trying to beautify the world one outfit at a time.. Next time, I will ask for Nicole, she's super sweet and helpful.. read more
