I took my 1999 Jeep into this shop to have the rear differential (Dana 35) worked on. The work…read moreorder also included redoing the rear brakes, specific axles, replacing the limited slip unit, seals and outer roller bearings. Two months later the limited slip unit, (commonly called a "lunchbox locker") detonated and rendered the vehicle completely unusable as it was stripped out and shattered. I immediately called them, they did send a tow truck out within half an hour or so to take it back to their shop to repair the repair. This meant replacing that locker with a stock unit, which I did agree to. Another month has gone by, a few days ago the rear differential started making a lot of noise, presumably from the left side brake drum. Grinding, squeaking and suchlike. I took it upon myself to remove the wheel and drum to look at the brake assembly. What I found what a totally mis-assembled brake system, and the axle was made in India, which is not the brand I had agreed to. This repair cost nearly $4000.00 and is quite unsatisfactory. They get one star.

Many years ago I use Burton Auto almost exclusively. The auto repair shop behind the pottery shop…read morein downtown vashon tried to strong arm me into replacing my engine for hundreds of dollars more than other places charge for engine replacement. Worried about spending that much money, I decided to get a second opinion. I went to Burton Auto and spoke to the owner. The owner of Burton Auto advised me that I did not need a new engine. I drove my vehicle for 10 more years before selling it. I didn't need car repair but I use Burton Auto for oil changes and other maintenance. A few years ago I went back to Burton auto. The owner was nowhere in sight nor was his son or daughter. They were incredibly rude. I brought the car in for repair after having extensive diagnostic testing done by a mechanic that came to my house but then got another job. My car was an old car and it needed a special relay ordered for the electrical system. I was told Burton could get this. They called me a few hours later and told me to come get my car. They said it would take a while to get the part. I went and they wanted hundreds of dollars. Nothing had been repaired. They wanted a couple of hundred of dollars to tell me that the part I already knew needed to be replaced, needed to be replaced. Another time I went in with a flat tire. One of the workers screamed swear words at me for being in his way. Washington is one of the states where auto mechanics are not required to have professional licenses. Sometimes this shows in a very bad way.

I'm so disappointed with this place. I really wanted to like it and the two people working in the…read morefront are very kind and cheerful. I've heard nothing but good things about this shop so I was really surprised when it took them 4 times to fix the power steering pump on my daughter's Subaru. They kept citing manufacturer defect as the issue for the 3 broken pumps. They were apologetic and eager to try and make it right which I appreciated. What I did not appreciate was the advice of a mechanic, who was familiar with the car, being completely discounted. (Since the car was initially unsafe to drive off island my daughter was unable to take it to her usual mechanic.) The car continued to have problems until my daughter was able to get it to her mechanic who completely fixed everything and reported that some kind of sensor had been unplugged and not plugged back in and the wrong power steering fluid had been used. Burton Auto was very apologetic and refunded my daughter the amount she had to pay to have their mistakes fixed, which I really appreciated. I decided to give them another shot with my car because they were so nice and seemed to genuinely want to help. I had my battery replaced which seemed fine except they weren't exactly sure the battery they had would work and had to call the auto parts place on island to ask. I figured they should know but appreciated them making sure. Next time I had them change my oil, check my breaks, and asked them to see if there were brighter headlights available for my car and asked about the new LED headlights. I was told they didn't know about the LED headlights but would look into it. When I picked up my car one of the wheels was totally loose and I could barely drive the car so I had to turn around only a couple hundred feet away. The headlights they put in, which I specifically asked them to only replace the headlights if something brighter was available, were about half as bright as the ones they took out. They never looked into the LED headlights like they said they would and my fog lights are now brighter than my headlights. Before I couldn't even tell if the fog lights were on except in fog. Now I practically need the fog lights on to all the time. I was charged $150 for the bulbs and replacement. I feel really frustrated and won't use their shop again. The mechanics seem to have no idea what they're doing. The employees are very nice but after hearing nothing but good things about this place I feel it's really important that consumers have honest information about the service and mechanics here.

Then they charged me $212 and tried to tell me my husband had approved that amount of "work" at that cost. Didn't happen, my husband would have never approved that without talking with me first. Last time they had quoted a $90 investigation fee so I was expecting the same cost. (Btw, they won't take that charge off the total bill either if they do the car work, it is a flat fee) When taking with the manager Rocky about this, and reminding him I had paid them a year ago $3800 for a new transmission on this car, and that I had been a very regular customer for over 10 years and that I was not happy about that high of a charge, he wouldn't budge repeating that my husband had approved it. I also wasn't happy how they embarrassed me by refusing to let the tow truck take the car off while I discuss the bill with Curt and Rocky the next day. Is this how you treat your 10+ year customers who had recently paid you $3800? Embarrass them and hold their car hostage? It's not like you don't know I live up the road under a mile away, have had my address and credit card info for all those years. It's not like I or my husband don't go into your place almost every single day. Well Rocky, you have lost my business completely. We were daily customers for gas, cigarettes, occasional beverages, etc. Hope that extra $100 you charged me was worth it. My honest opinion is that they nickle and dime you, and are all about the profit and not about the customer service. Adios, taking my business to Shell just a little further away.
