My favorite winery on my way to the beach! You can't beat all the local favorites and the wine master is very friendly.

This place needs a thorough cleaning! Unfortunately I cannot recommend this as a stop as the man working could not have been less interested in serving us, and as stated in other reviews, plastic cups, no markers and no way to carry the samples outside which is the only seating. I've been an avid customer of Nehalem Bay Winery for years. In fact, whenever we make a trip to the Oregon Coast, stopping here to stock up has become one of our traditions. I've always appreciated the wide variety of wines and meads they offer, and it was one of the few places where I could confidently buy several different bottles knowing they would all be excellent. Unfortunately, this most recent visit was a huge disappointment. We purchased several bottles, including the Mead, Blackberry, Niagara, Apple Jack, and Gewürztraminer. Every single one was noticeably over-carbonated despite being sold as still wines. Instead of the smooth, well-balanced wines I've come to expect over the years, they all had an unexpected fizz that significantly affected their character and enjoyment. I also noticed that the winery has switched from natural corks to screw caps. While I understand that screw caps are used by many excellent wineries and aren't inherently a sign of lower quality, the difference in the wine itself was impossible to ignore. The comparison was especially striking because I still have older bottles from Nehalem Bay Winery in my cellar. Side by side, the older vintages are far superior in balance, texture, and overall quality. The wines I purchased on this visit simply didn't resemble the wines that made me a loyal customer in the first place. I'm sharing this review not out of anger, but out of genuine disappointment. I sincerely hope this was an isolated production or bottling issue rather than a permanent change in winemaking, because Nehalem Bay Winery has long been one of my favorite stops on the Oregon Coast. I hope they investigate what happened and return to the quality that earned my loyalty for so many years. read more

Super casual and inexpensive wine tasting! We tried several sweet wines for $10 which was waived when we bought some wine. We flew on Alaska Airlines to Oregon so were super excited that wines fly free and Nahalem Bay Winery was able to box up our 3 bottles and attach a label to it for our flight. It was very well packed and marked as fragile! The service here was great! So friendly and informative. Not busy when we went on a weekday. read more

Super casual, affordable wine tasting. Nehalem Bay Winery is located on the outskirts of the main part of town and has beautiful views of Nehalem and the mountains. They have shaded seating outside and picnic tables throughout their property. Their sweet wines were absolutely delicious - I love a sweet fruit wine, and they had a TON of them on the menu. I tried their honey mead, Oregon blackberry, peach, pear, and cranpere wines. The honey mead and the peach were my favorite - they're very sweet and not for everyone! It's a very casual atmosphere, and was very different from other wine tastings I've done. It was $10 for a tasting of 5 wines and that tasting fee was waived with a purchase of a bottle of wine. The tasting itself was nothing special - you order your tasting wines inside at the bar, and they gave them to you one at a time. The wine is served in plastic cups. There wasn't really any indoor seating, so you either stood kind of awkwardly in the inside space between each tasting, or you could go outside. We went and sat outside between each pour, but it was such a minimal amount of wine we were getting up and going back inside to get our next wine and didn't feel like we were really able to enjoy the tasting. At other tastings, I've had either a flight of wines, or I've had a server pour each of the wines and give more information about each of them. The person who was working was very knowledgable, but didn't give much information about the wines unless we asked specific questions about the history of the winery and the wines themselves. You could also buy half and full pours at their location, in addition to the bottles and the tasting. They have super reasonable pricing, but we weren't blown away by the experience. It's the only winery in town and the wines are delicious, so it's worth a visit, but don't expect a traditional wine tasting/winery tour at this location. read more

My friend and I decided to stop and do a little wine tasting. The deal is you can enjoy 5 wine tastings for $10 or if you bought a bottle of their wine, the tasting would be free. So, after tasting that's what we did. Rusty, their friendly dog, was such a sweetie. We loved talking and petting him. Other folks came in with their dogs and he was so friendly even to them considering it was his turf. Many of the white wines are fruit wines so I got a kick out of the reviews when folks commented on the sweet wines. Usually fruit wines are sweet but some have a little "kick" too. Loved most of the wines we tasted and that's why you taste. There were several varieties of whites and reds. The gentlemen serving was very pleasant. It was a good place to stop. read more

Saw this place on our way to Tillamook and decided to take a detour. You could do a tasting or grab a glass and enjoy it in the patio. We opted for the tasting. We were given a tasting of a few wines. The wines were too sweet for me, but I can see how some people may like them. Surprisingly, the tastings were free. It looks like they have events often. There's a resident dog named Rusty that is the sweetest. If you need some pet therapy come here. You can get double therapy with some wine. The guy behind the counter was great. read more

Fun little spot, inexpensive wine tasting. I like that the tasting is free if you buy a bottle, and they have enough of a variety that it's likely most people will find something they enjoy. The wines were decent, not going to be a go-to for me but certainly good enough to bring a bottle home. All the seating is outdoors (uncovered). I was glad to find them open year-round but would love a spot to sit inside so I could take more time savoring the sips rather than feeling awkward standing in the middle of a room. It did not appear that any food was available, so I recommend a meal before you visit if you don't like wine on an empty stomach. The sweet wines are very sweet and it was nice to have some good dry options too. The tasting is very informal, more like a "which would you like next" format than a "we recommend tasting in this order to not overwhelm your palate" format. There don't seem to be many wine tasting places in this area, so when we spotted Nehalem Bay, the car simply turned by itself. This discovery turned out to be more fortuitous for me, a mostly non-wine drinker, since many of their wines are fruity. Not overly syrupy sweet, because I hate that, but quite flavorful and delightful as a dessert wine. And I really don't give a hoot what it was served in, but it actually was a regular wine glass unlike JW's experience. Laura was our pourer. She was delightful and easy to talk to, and certainly made our visit a positive one. Mr. B started with varietals, and pronounced the Chardonnay his favorite. It is not aged in oak, which was a plus for him. The fruit wines we tried included Blackberrry, Peach, Plum, Niagara (a Concord grape wine), and Christmas (a red wine spiced with orange peel and cloves that would be quite nice served warm). Mostly to please me, we ended up purchasing two Plum, one Niagara, one Christmas, and three Chardonnay (the last bottle being free after purchasing so many). In 2019 we were on a road trip vacation in the PNW and had a couple nights stay in Rockaway Beach. We wanted wine, but it's mostly dry reds up there and neither of us are dry wine drinkers. I happened to find that this winery had fruit wines and we decided to check it out. The place is cute! The gentleman who served us for our tasting was a hoot. There was a group of ladies who were also doing a tasting for one of their birthdays and we all became wine tasting friends. It was a great time! The wines are sweet and so is the live-in host. He chatted with us and poured us whatever we liked even at 10:30am when he surely was not expecting visitors, especially in November. A delightful detour on our way to Tillamook. Not the fanciest but you kind of feel like you are just hanging out at a friends place who happens to live at a rustic winery. We visited this past weekend and tried 8 wines and had 2 glasses for $5! We loved the reds and the wines (didn't try the fruit wines) and the view was gorgeous. PLUS there are doggos. Who doesn't love a place that allows cute doggos. We were almost deterred by the lower Yelp reviews, but after research we found that the reviews were old and about a bad employee, not necessarily the wine. Turns out that guy left years ago! If I could give this place a zero star I would. Today I was on a wonderful rail tour and we were at the point of our tour where we were turning around near the Nehalem Bay winery. We were no where near the winery when all of the sudden two dogs came out not on leashes and started charging towards the group. Then an older man who clearly worked at the winery started yelling at the dogs to come back and then made comments about how our group needed to stay away from the winery. We had no intentions of using the bathrooms but we also did not want to get bit by the dogs! We did not appreciate getting yelled at and in front of our children either. I want to point out that I have purchased wine inside the winery several times and of course if your a customer then they treat you differently. All I can say is wow!!! We had a great experience trying various wines with fantastic help from the gentleman behind the bar. Highly suggest trying their wine!

The facility is located in a rustic but charming area near Nehalem River. The owner was however not so charming. She was initially cold and flat. Then we ordered a tasting for $10. The first wine was a chardonnay which was musty and sweet. Not chardonnay-like. Then we ordered a cabernet which was better. I offered to pay for our tasting and the host suggested we pay at the end in case we make any other purchases. When I said we dont think we will make any further purchases she became hostile. I reminded her it was her offer that we took but she got agitated and said she didnt need our business. She followed me outside and gave me my $10 back saying she didnt want my money. Perhaps she was insulted. Im not sure. But she was toxic. So if thats what youre looking for stop by.view the town, drink mediocre wine and navigate the host. Enjoy! But there is a cool little popular place a couple miles away in Manzanita. Just sayin. read more

Loved this tasting experience! The wines are fruity and not my typical favorites, but the experience here was top notch and the wines were somewhat original so I liked it. The server was very friendly and made great conversation while sharing about the wines. He gave us some great local information about places to take our dog as well. His dog was adorable and made an excellent winery greeter! Every new person that came in she went to in a calm and sweet manner.... I liked her almost as much as the wine! The location is a little off the main 101 but worth the side trip. The parking was ample for the crowd there on a weekend. Overall we really enjoyed the visit and came home with bottles of the Pacific Plum and the Cranpere. Worth a visit for sure! read more

On Wednesday we came to do a tasting. the day prior I had called to confirm. They said "bring food, come and enjoy our wine. Sit and relax and have fun". We could have gone back to our rental. Had snacks and wine,but this was our activity for the afternoon! With our shopping bag of purchased sandwiches and chips we arrived. Told we couldn't do glasses....understood, we purchased a bottle. We felt over priced and not the quality we usually drink, but let's "enjoy the afternoon out"! We take the bottle and when we tried to find our way to a table, we're told we cannot drink on the premises! I just had called yesterday! I wish them luck! I've worked at wineries for years. BEST! WINERY! EVER!!!! Everything about this little place was wonderful! The location is just off the highway for travelers in a sweet cozy little cabin. The staff and owner are just great, down to earth people! Zac was our server and made the experience a fun and memorable one for us! The owner is a retired veteran that has a big heart for helping those in need, so donate if you can while you're sipping on wine! Now, as for the wine... IT WAS AMAZING!!! They have such a large variety of wines: whites, reds and fruits. Every one of them was great!!! We bought several bottles and loved them so much we went back a second time to get a couple more!!! I was extremely disappointed with my experience here. It is such a cute place but the younger guy working there has absolutely no idea what he is doing. He told my boyfriend and I that it was 10$ for a flight and if you bought a bottle of wine they would be free. The tasting pours weren't even enough to taste the wine and they just kept pouring white and red and fruit wines on top of the other previous ones. They didn't greet me when I walked in and the communication was horrible. Mediocre wine, horrible service, and expensive. Twist off 30$ crap! I will surely not return here. read more

Random location for a hidden gem winery. No-frills, no fuss, incredibly friendly/knowledgeable staff. Not wheelchair accessible and they don't have food (at least we didn't see a menu of any kind), hence the 4 stars. That said, you can bring in your own food to eat at the picnic tables on the deck. Those under 21 are allowed inside and there is ample covered outdoor seating and a small gift shop to peruse while they wait (plus a very cute medium sized, well behaved dog). Wine Tasting Absolutely worth it for $5/person! Plus, the wine tasting is free if you purchase a bottle of wine ($20-25). They offer both traditional and fruity wines and allowed us to sample SO MANY types of each. And yes, they provide a spit bucket so you do not need to worry about becoming inebriated before driving on your merry way. The best part- they offer free shipping on orders of 6 bottles or more and will let you take some bottles with you and ship the rest to wherever you live!!! Aka we got 6 bottles shipped to our home in D.C. and took 2 bottles with us that day for only $145 total. If I could award ZERO stars, I would. Upon entering today (9-23-12 around 1:30), we were not acknowledged. While looking at their wine tasting menu printed on computer paper and taped to the side wall (classy), a patron tasting wine declined to purchase a bottle of the wine she'd just tasted. The pourer rolled her eyes, grabbed the glass, and tossed it somewhere to the side. There is nowhere to sit inside and enjoy the tasting. The interior is dark, dingy, and uninviting. There is nowhere to sit outside either, no patio where one can gaze at the scenery. Just a gravel parking lot. We felt very unwelcome and left in under two minutes. Didn't taste anything. read more

A different wine tasting experience.. We came on a rainy Friday and there was no one else in there. We asked to do some wine tasting, which was followed by a grumpy sounding "what kind of wine do you want?".... So we awkwardly tried the ones we pointed to, with no description whatsoever. The wines were good, so I bought one, mostly because I felt uncomfortable and wasn't sure how much the tasting would be.. but knew it would be free with purchase. Then we left. For starters, we were there at 9 am when they were supposed to open. However, the doors didn't open until 9:30. The owner (or the person I assumed to be the owner) saw us at 9:05, briefly said hi and that he was waiting for the keys. We didn't see another person until 9:20 when a women drove up, walked behind the building for a couple of minutes, and then tore out of the driveway quicker than she had appeared. It took another 10 minutes after that for the doors to open. I had had high hopes for this place since it was our first winery on our trip, however I was highly disappointed. I would have expected a little friendlier service, seeing as they were late in opening their doors and we had waited patiently the whole time. However, it was like our presence there was annoying the guy. We tried to make friendly conversation, telling him we were on a road trip down 101 to San Francisco, and his response was "Why would you do that? That's a waste of gas." In early December, I spent some time on the Oregon coast. I arrived in Nehalem about 4pm. Saw several antique stores I wanted to visit, but continued through town to visit Nehalem Bay Winery. Got there, and saw their signage that they were open until 6pm daily. YES! I could return to the antique stores, and then visit the winery on my way to Seaside. Got back to the winery about 5:05. There were lights on in parts of the building, but the tasting room was dimmed, and locked up tight. Why advertise you are open until 6pm if you aren't open that late? I intended to write to the winery after my trip, but never got around to it. I ran into Nehalem Bay at a recent food festival. I mentioned what had happened in early December. He just shrugged his shoulders and said, "That sometimes happens." Really? That's your response? With so many wineries in Oregon, including many who appreciate my business, I will happily avoid NBW forever, and urge others to do the same if you give a damn about customer service. read more

In operation since 1974 and their tasting room is located about one mile off of Hwy 101. As you drive up, it looks like a farmhouse on the side of the road. Once entering the tasting room, it has stone flooring and brick walls that provides a comfortable and relaxed place to enjoy tasting their wines. The service was friendly and welcoming. Tasting costs $5 and is waived with a purchase of a bottle of wine. The wines they offer are: Riesling, blush, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Marechal Foch, Merlot, Cranperé (white Riesling blended with cranberry), Valley Peach (Riesling with peach), Plum, Niagra (just like picking a ripe grape and popping it into your mouth), Blackberry, Santa's Elixir (their Christmas wine, a combination of White Riesling, cranberry and spices), Honey Mead, Nehalem Red Sweet, Rhubarb, Pear and some sparkling wines. We are borderline wine snobs and we still love this place. The wines aren't exactly high-end, but if you know that going into it then you can still enjoy yourself and get great value. To the jack-ball that complained about plastic wine glasses for the tastings... well these are mass produced, sugary, cheaper wines for under $20 each, what do you expect? We still leave with several bottles every time. Use the niagara for your sangrias and you will be happy every time. read more
