Whenever I'm in there it's always a great selection and helpful employees. I found some Devo records I was missing.

The older guy is just plain rude. Don't bother going going if he's there, or walk out and go back at a different time.

I introduced myself as an out of towner to the girl at the front and she was super helpful in directing me to the artist I was asking about.

Mr. Cheapo - You'll find a lot of great stuff. You might have to take two trips back to your car for all the stuff you'll buy.

I was going down to Long Island. I remembered my friend Glenn told me all about this record store…read more It was in Mineola not far away from where I was going to Manhasset New York. Hard to get parking on the street in front of the record store. There's a few spots, but I went around to a parking lot around back behind where the hardware store in diner are. I went and it was pretty busy even on a Tuesday at around 1:15 PM. I was impressed how well organized the store was clean looking too. One of the employees notice me and said "may I help you" I said I was just looking around. I see how it's organized with the CDs and DVDs. He said in the back of the vintage records and cassettes . Everything was laid out very nicely and organized well. Lots and lots of DVDs Blu-ray discs lots and lots of CDs. Many many records as well. Prices looked great on the DVDs. Somewhere $.99 dollar $.99 $2.99 TV box sets also inexpensive. Very good prices on The Records as well. CDs as well but I didn't look at too many of them. I really wanted to check out the cassette section. They had two big sections of cassettes both of them. You had to ask one of the employees to open up the sliding doors. Except for one section with folk cassettes, and some Grateful Dead live cassettes. Immediately picked out about 10 folk cassettes . Pete seger Bonnie Raitt. The letterman, etc.. I went up to the front and told the guy to please unlock the cassette area. Lots of rock and pop from A-to-Z. Most prices were $.99 $1.99. $2.99 $3.99. Some more hard to get ones were $4.99 $6.99. Anyway, I picked up well over 30 tapes. Definitely some I haven't seen before on cassette others. I wanted to get, but were a little pricey in other stores. I told the guy was ready at the front and he came back to lock the area where all the cassettes were. He said wow you got quite a collection of tapes there. He helped carry up a bunch of them. I left them at the counter for them to start pricing. They said thank you for helping clear out some of the cassettes. Maybe not that many people get cassettes anymore. But I still have a cassette deck in my Lincoln town car. As well as a nice couple of boxes, walkmans and a nice tape deck for my stereo system hi-fi system Lots of good CDs. I looked at while they were checking out the tapes The employees were very friendly. I talked to them as they were finishing ringing up the tapes they gave me a punchcard and I got five punches. They told me the stores been there for 40+ years. I'll have to go back and look through the CDs and DVDs next time I go down there. I would definitely recommend this record store. Everything is clean, not dusty or musty laid out very nicely and clearly. There are fantastic deals here. Be careful you might spend too much money and go home with a load of stuff.

The owner plays a good mix of music to keep you feening for yesteryear. Bring any Classics you may have around and see what you can get. Can easily make a new friend and bond with those who have come to enjoy erstwhile. It's a but cramped and crammed with stuff but that's part of its charm.

I know a lot of you here live quite far from Marine Park/Sheepshead Bay/Gravesend, but if you want…read moreused records, Zig Zag is the place to go. Luckily for me, I live in the neighborhood west of here. I've always ignored this spot for years due to the insanely outdated and weathered posters (really horrible ones, too). However, I manned up and walked in about a year and a half ago and I must say: this place is great. It turns out that Zig Zag is quite historic. Back in the early 80s, heavy metal had its glory days here in Brooklyn. L'Amour's was the place to be and Zig Zag was the place to get records... and meet your favorite bands. It's hard to believe that bands like Metallica, Motorhead, and Venom all stepped through that door at one point. Stan, the guy who works there, has basically seen it all and has not given up his 80s days just yet. As for the actual selection of goods: it's just like any other used record store. You win some, and you lose some. Because this place has diminished into obscurity over the last 20 years, all of the super rare stuff is left untouched and hidden underneath everything else. The prices are a bit high ($12 average for a used record?) though the price is worth it for some records. How Stan manages to keep this place in business after all these years blows my mind. I know he does a lot of EBay-ing, but damn! He must kick ass at it. All in all, this place is filled with unexplored treasures and is definitely worth your time especially if you are a collector of classic rock, classic heavy metal, and everything else related to that from the 60s-80s. Oh, there are CDs too but who cares about that plastic crap?

Another one bites the dust…read more I used to shop here during my teen years. I'm quite sure it had an awesome Metal collection. However, I used to buy Post-Punk and 80s Goth vinyl here. Many times it would be cheaper at Zig Zag than some of the stores in the Village. Well, good music is officially dead. In the age of auto-tuned crap, the bell tolls for another fallen indie store. R.I.P.

The Archive is a physical media retail store that opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut in June 2017…read more It was founded by friends and business partners Brandon Upson, James Neurath, Ryan Emerson and Ralph Stevens. The shop is the brick & mortar division of Vinegar Syndrome: a film restoration and distribution company that specializes in protecting and preserving genre films (mainly produced between the 1960s and 1980s). The company was founded in 2012 by Emerson and business partner Joe Rubin and named for the acidic smell of deteriorating film. It is considered a boutique Blu-ray label and to date has released well over 800 titles on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD. The Archive is dedicated to selling movies and music in a wide variety of physical media formats. Consumers will find all sorts of new and used titles available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, Betamax, Laserdisc, Vinyl, CD, and Cassette tape. A second location opened in Aurora (CO) in October 2022 and a third (named 'Vinegar Syndrome') opened in Toronto (ON) in October 2023. I've been doing business with the Archive for a number of years now. I'm a huge fan of collecting physical media. Although streaming media seems to be the way to go now, streaming services are only as good as your internet connection, the quality is too compressed and titles are disappearing all the time. I like having an actual vinyl record or 4K disc in my hands. Physical formats are also usually loaded with all sorts of liner notes, posters and bonus features that you won't get with streaming services. I try to stop at the shop every few months or so. While I sometimes leave empty handed, other times I leave with some great finds. They often carry great film releases from labels like Arrow Video, Blue Underground, The Criterion Collection, Severin Films, Shout! Factory, and of course Vinegar Syndrome. At times, the shop will even get a limited amount of new releases weeks before they are available on Amazon. If you're a fan of physical media then you need to get to the Archive right away!
