I brought a small leather backpack here with a broken zipper hoping to get the zipper repaired. I…read morewas informed that it may not be possible but they would try and asked me to leave a $30 deposit. I returned today and was very disappointed with the repair. The new zipper appears to be made of very cheap material and is difficult to open and close. All of the original metal detailing on the backpack, including a smaller intact zipper, is bronze in colour. She replaced the broken zipper with a silver zipper with a large silver ring as a pull tab. It does not match the rest of the bag and looks terrible. I expressed my dissatisfaction and asked for the previous leather pull tab back so I could try and reattach it myself and she said she no longer had it. I was charged an additional $26, so nearly $60 total for her to ruin my bag. I asked for a partial refund and she refused saying, "if you wanted the zippers to match you should have said that when you dropped it off". It's evident that she was not equipped to do this repair. I wish she would have said she couldn't do it and returned my deposit to me so I couldn't have taken my bag elsewhere to get fixed. What really dumbfounded me was there was zero apology or attempt to rectify the situation. Needless to say I won't be ever going back here. What a joke.

Fresh-Up Cleaners is a good choice for dry cleaning in The Junction. Here are a few main points…read more.. 1. It is not cheap. In fact, I find it to be on par with most cleaners in the area, if not slightly higher. 2. The couple that runs the place are very friendly. They seem genuinely interested in helping you with your clothes and clothing issues. 3. They do the work here. Unlike some other cleaners who send their work out, I believe most (if not all) of Fresh-Up's cleaning and alterations are done in house. 4. Most items come back fairly quickly. It takes 2-3 days to get hemming and alterations back. 5. They do not take credit cards!!! They do take debit. 6. Everything I have had done here has been done well. At times it seems a bit expensive, but to have it done right is worth it.

I had a horrible experience at Flair cleaners, specifically with the owner. She was argumentative…read moreand condescending over a difference of opinion as to how my clothes should have been altered. She did admit that they messed up the job and she paid for the corrections at another alterations spot around the corner on Yonge St (who I won't mention), but she accused me of all manner of ill intention (including being racist against my own people!) in order to score points in petty arguments that really shouldn't have arisen to begin with. It all centered around my telling her that the style of alteration that was promised to me wasn't the kind that was done (I was told there would be darts in the waist instead of opening the seam on this job). She said that no alterations place would do darts and they couldn't look good so she didn't know why I'd be promised that or why I'd believe it. I assured her that many Caribbean alterations people did darts to accommodate different body shapes (since I have thick thighs and butt compared to my waist). She said I was racist against black people for saying some of us (including myself!) have thicker butts. I assured her I was speaking about myself and I loved myself and was not racist against myself or my people but by then she was in what I would describe as full meltdown mode. Anyway, she told me she'd never want my racist business again and I told her she was crazy. I reaaaaallly try to avoid bad interactions like this so it really took some pretty constant dedication on her part to get me to tell her flat out that she was crazy. She also told me repeatedly about how accomplished she was, how she owned the place and had at least two university degrees (I forget the number now) and she generally seemed absolutely out of her tree during the course of our interactions. I took my poorly altered jeans to a nearby alterations spot and told them the same thing - that my butt and thighs were disproportionally thick for my waist and he replied "It's a long time I'm in business - I have a lot of African and Caribbean clients - I know different body shapes". I didn't even ask him for it but he did darts! Despite Flair Cleaners assertion that nobody would and they couldn't look good! And they are seamless. Perfect. If I knew how to take a photo and upload it I would (and maybe I'll learn how to show the work). And I wasn't called racist against my people and he didn't tell me about his university degrees and his general importance or speak down to me or against me in any way. Night and day experiences. AND he likes me coming back to his shop! I imagine I just caught the owner on several bad days or managed to trigger her somehow, because I can't believe she goes through life interacting with strangers like that on a regular basis. If I could add a 1/2 star for "benefit of the doubt" (since everybody has bad days) I would, but for all she said to me and about me, there's no way I could give 2 stars.
