Gum grafts. I knew they were coming for me one way or another (thanks mom and dad). I got referred…read moreto Mike Williamson by my dentist and was initially apprehensive as he was out of network with my dental insurance, but went for a consult anyway. Dr. Williamson operates a very smooth-running practice. Every staff interaction I had (front desk, nurses, techs) was excellent and you can tell there's just good teamwork going on here. I made a special request for my surgical operation and was super grateful that Dr. Williamson was willing to accommodate it. He and Sarah had excellent bedside manner during my operation - it went quick and painless. The recovery was (somewhat predictably) miserable for the first week. I had a few questions about the discomfort I was experiencing and was so appreciative of the staff that went out of their way to proactively check in on me and get answers. They even reached out to Dr. Williamson about one issue on his day off which they didn't have to do. Just had my post-op today follow-up today, a couple weeks later, and everything is in great shape. Despite the challenges in recovery so grateful to have this out of the way and gums that are good to go (as Dr. Williamson put it) for life! Though the office will still bill insurance for you, I could have saved some money working with an in-network provider. However, I think this operation in particular benefits from Dr. Williamson's wealth of experience - my understanding is there's a lot of nuances in sourcing and shaping graft tissue. Some things are worth spending on!

I just had a visit with Dr. Desai and both he and his staff were the best. It's never fun getting…read moredental work done, but this office actually made my visit very pleasant. I will definitely have their office do my periodontal work. They were very thorough and only recommended what was truly necessary. V. D. Lawrence May 21,2019

As anyone can see, I rarely write reviews here. But today's experience justified it…read more I was referred by my dentist to Central Texas Periodontics for a periodontal cleaning. Instead, what happened in my opinion is something called Appointment Padding, a revenue boosting technique in healthcare to require multiple or unnecessary office visits to perform what could easily be done with a single or fewer visits. Specifically, once I arrived, I was told that today's appointment was essentially just to look at my mouth *to see* if I needed a periodontal cleaning (which the dentist had already confirmed), and that for the actual cleaning, I'd have to come back some other day, which of course would trigger a brand new office visit charge. When I asked what about this process would require that a cleaning would need to be done on a *different day*, Dr. Desai said "This won't work," and told me I'd be getting a refund on my appointment fee, essentially directing me to leave for having asked a forbidden question. It appeared the only thing they value more than Appointment Padding is not being asked to explain it. The reaction betrayed what seemed to be his inadvertent "over the target" response. Who knows how many more visits, beyond two, they'd have sought to stretch my billing. To be clear, this isn't a critique of CTP's work (which I assume would vary greatly based on doctor anyway). But my advice would be that anyone should only go to Central Texas Periodontics if they want to spend extra time and extra money on lots and lots of unnecessary visits -- and even then, such a patient best not ask about it. Incidentally, the office staff was quite professional and polite. I booked another periodontist immediately who, (now that I knew to ask in advance), didn't require two periodontal visits for one periodontal cleaning.
