The script has great potential, but we were disappointed with the production. One actress screamed her way through the play, and the repeated knife jabbing was far too much. One actress, Andrea Frankle, was terrific in the role of Marie. The others lacked finesse and nuance in their character developments. Kudos to the set, lighting and costumer designers which were terrific. And finally, the most disappointing was from the Director. Some of staging was confusing and unnecessary, and often didn't allow the actresses to communicate well. If you are unfamiliar with the repertory theater, try them out. But for this production, I'd rate them 2.5 stars out of 5.

They offered some good package deals for different events; however, none of them fit our needs. They had multiple events over the course of a few days. We opted for the Friday night BBQ event and the VIP tickets for the main event - the Food and Wine Festival. This was the first time for the BBQ event benefiting the Veterans. It was held at a brew pub owned by a local Veteran which was a nice touch. It was odd that the event started at 8pm which seemed a little late; however, I think there was another event earlier that people could stagger over from. The BBQ night had some good eats with my favorite as the smoked oysters. There were a few booths for food and liquor but it wasn't a huge event. For a first time it was well attended and the vendors kept up with the volume. Inside the brew pub they had a local band and sold some cute t-shirts, etc. The only negative is that we were thinking about walking home from the event and the neighborhood around us signaled "call an UBER". The main event was more aptly titled the Booze and Wine Festival. I swear every major spirit vendor was at this event. From tequila to aged bourbons you were covered on every front. Tastings were generous and the lines weren't horribly long. The local vendors/farm area was very intriguing and I purchased some gifts to take back home. I really liked this particular part of the event to view local wares and interact with the merchants. Now for the food...the lines were long after the VIP early entry ended. We got in one hour early and I have to say that there were many perks that were worth the extra cost. The food was average and in a couple of cases outstanding. The two BBQ places served up some mean BBQ. The Asian inspired dish that one vendor served with what looked like spaghetti noodles was a complete pan. I honestly wished there were many more food vendors because they were sparse. Two more changes/additions I would consider for the event are more recycling cans and garbage cans. I think they are going for the eco festival so I would make all of the cups compostable. The other addition is to involve the local amazing SCAD. Why wouldn't you add a small art section with a premiere art institution? Now for VIP, we had a special area with our own food, open bar, restrooms, entertainment and seating area. They did sell out VIP so purchase early next year if you are interested. The VIP section had an ice sculpture that was constantly replenished with shrimp. The cocktails were flowing as well as the Stella Artois booth that was giving away free glassware. Some of the food did run out but we got our taste and weren't disappointed. The highlight was meeting some of the local people. We chatted with of the organizers of the event and her lovely mother who is the "unofficial ambassador of Savannah". They represented the community and the hospitality that this charming city exudes. It is a small town with a big heart and we hope to return soon.

This was my first time at the Savannah Food and Wine Festival and overall, the event was extremely…read moreenjoyable. We went to the River Street Stroll on Friday night and the main festival on Saturday at the Georgia Rail Museum so this review is based on those experiences. I'll start with the River Street Stroll. We bought our tickets on Living Social (side note: the start times listed were the end times of both events - luckily we double checked) and got there early. There was a sizable line to get in, but once the event was open, everyone got in quickly. The layout of vendors was very well planned. There was no specific order you had to go in, but there was enough space that it never felt like wall to wall people. The vendors were made up of vineyards, wine distributors, liquor distributors, distilleries, and a Stella Artois booth that was giving out chalices with the beer. It was quickly apparent that this was an alcohol only event with the exception of 2 Publix booths serving crostini, cheese, carrots, grapes, and "petit fours." It was obvious we were not the only ones surprised by the absence of food. The longest lines in the whole venue were for the food stations. Nevertheless, it was a blast! We had lots of great mixed drinks, a few very respectable shots, and tasted well over 50 different bottles of wine. Despite our best efforts, we left the event - in the words of my partner - "inurburbated." But there was time for dinner and reminiscing afterward. Good lighting. Good conversation. At least 10 different bottles I would purchase including a top rate prosecco, an impressive New Zealand Sauvignon blanc, a savory Zinfandel/Pinot Noir blend, and a bizarrely delicious sake. On to day 2. The rail museum was an equally excellent setting to River Street and the weather - while not spectacular - cooperated for the weekend. Again, the spacing and layout was ideal. Clusters of tents adorned each section of the open air facility. White tents with signs indicating their wares intermixed with titanic mothballed train cars and the smells of herbs, exotic dishes, and wine filled the air like a French kitchen. Only one section felt too crowded. Most vendors were terribly friendly and made the atmosphere festive. A couple seemed like they didn't want to be there, but that's bound to happen with that many booths and that many patrons. There were 3 general types of vendors: alcohol of some variety, local restaurants showing off their best dishes, and farms/food purveyors. The alcohol format was the same as the previous day - we received a complementary glass for tasting. Many of the same vendors were present on both days but it was nice to try the drinks with eats. The restaurants operated on a wooden token system ($1=1 token). They were serving small plates ranging from 1 to 6 tokens - most were 2 to 4. We had a fantastic crab hush puppy from Belford's, discovered Pie Society with some steak and mushroom pie, and devoured the best butter chicken we've ever tasted. I think my favorite booths were the local farms and food/beverage makers. From cheeses to teas to soaps and lots in between, every vendor had tempting samples to try without costing a wooden shekel. We got a bottle of muscadine grape juice just for liking a GA muscadine farm on Facebook. We also purchased locally sourced pickles, orange blossom honey, and 3 jars of jams (the pineapple pepper is my favorite!). We didn't partake in the cooking classes. None of the dishes were challenging or interested us enough to sit and watch. It was more fun to walk around and check everything out. It was a great weekend and I would definitely do it again - awesome crowd, awesome vendors, and great settings. So many superior flavors: it was a feast of a thousand bites... or sips... whatever. I liked it. Only drawbacks: some restaurants wanted too much for a small plate, one section on day 2 was too crowded, and a few more trash cans and recycling cans would be nice. All minor in the scheme of things. I'll return next year if I can.

Based on the Yelp reviews we decided to give the Comedy Magic Cabaret a try. I have to say that from the outside it definitely doesn't look like much, but once you are through the doors you are in the the most magical little venue! The ambience and decor were on point! Seating is very intimate, but we did not feel crowded at all! It was the perfect setting for this type of show. There is a small menu but the food was delicious. We had the Spinach Artichoke dip with chips and it was a perfectly sized appetizer. I also had one of the best lemon-drop martinis I've ever tasted! I was very impressed by the food and drink offerings. The waitresses were very friendly and service was efficient. The show itself was a riot. We genuinely laughed through the whole thing. There is wonderful crowd interaction, and Kerry who performed that evening kept everything so fast paced and lively. He really knows how to work a crowd. We were hooked 2 minutes into the show and stayed dialed in for the whole thing! It's a lot of clever banter and good rapport with a lot of wow! tricks along the way. Truly - so entertaining! The end of the show had us all literally gasping! The crowd skews older but there were many families there with older teens and young adults so it was a great vibe! Highly recommend! We will definitely return next year!!

It is one of the two best entertainment venues offered in the oldest City in Georgia. It is secure when entering, and their Security Staff (yes, the people responsible for telling you can't, which we all enjoy immensely because we are put on the spot thinking "What do I do with it now?"), are polite, respectful, conscientious, and will put you out should you decide to act out and disrupt everyone else's excited anticipation of the event. The food, when available is OK for a quick snack at the Johnny Mercer Theater (yes, they are one in the same). However, we prefer to enjoy dinner first at one of Savannah's remarkable restaurants which are plentifully depending upon your zeal for delectable gastronomic taste experience you desire. We enjoy making an evening of an enthralling musical or entertainment experience but want to spread the responsibility for helping us make our memory which we hope will last a lifetime around so as not to burden the Artist or Artists who are inviting themselves into their world so they can express and we can experience their emotional passion for their Art! Specifically John Cougar Mellencamp and KC and the Sunshine Ban both come to mind as providing us with outstanding performances expressing themselves while getting most of our audience up and out of their seats dancing in the isles with a plethora of smiles everywhere we looked! Those are the joyous lifelong memories, after a great meal that we will treasure, forever. I realize that the Savannah Civic Center will not want to read this next comment however, I would caution you that when buying your tickets for this venue IF IT is musical entertainment to get as close to the center section of the Johnny Mercer Theater as possible. Why? Because of the acoustical sound quality. I would NEVER suggest that sitting up against either wall in the floor or bottom section as this choice is NOT recipe for an enjoyably experience. I would suggest the Balcony seats over buying seats very close or against the walls of this venue because the base sound especially is just to overpowering and drowns out the music as that is all you can feel deep in you bones while losing the remaining full range of your musical experience. However, if you are a Heavy Metal enthusiast then "to the walls you must go!" for your tickets as I guarantee you will get all you ever wanted and then some. While I am not a Structural Engineer by profession I do understand and acoustical sound quality and would humbly suggest that the Savannah Civic Center Management consider a relatively inexpensive retrofit for the Johnny Mercer Theater. First, I would suggest you install large acoustical slightly slopped half moon directional shells behind each of your speakers mounted on those side walls that run the length of your theater to move that base sound off those walls back toward the sound circulating in the venue. Second, I would remove a few seats at each of the two back corners of the Johnny Mercer Theater and install slightly sloped or curved acoustical floor to ceiling columns that are thin but engineered to reflex sound, not absorb it which in this person's opinion would help some of that sound travel around the venue. These two relatively simple retrofits of this venue would help to the sound quality throughout the hall move throughout your theater. I also feel implementing changes along these lines of thought would help your Management sell more tickets to musical entertainment at the Johnny Mercer Theater. As for those who are wondering if they want to entrust their future lifelong memories to this wonderful venue, I would strongly suggest you do because it will put a smile on your face and a song in your heart!

We were quite impressed to find this wonderful venue tucked away in an area which looked to be mostly local businesses. The parking lot isn't very large, but enough to handle the number of patrons. From the inside, it would be similar to a college or high school theater maybe holding 250 people. The acoustics were excellent and for the play we attended, the music was live. Although I didn't partake, I believe they also had alcohol for sale at very reasonable prices. The theater is quite intimate and could be compared to your typical New York Off Broadway theaters. I'm not sure what other events or plays are held at this venue, but I'm glad it exists in our community.
