If you are a Concert lover or just causally enjoy renewing your past music loves, or new musical passions then I recommend the Savannah Civic Center to you a solid choice to entertain your passion. It is one of the two best entertainment venues offered in the oldest City in Georgia. It is secure when entering, and their Security Staff (yes, the people responsible for telling you can't, which we all enjoy immensely because we are put on the spot thinking "What do I do with it now?"), are polite, respectful, conscientious, and will put you out should you decide to act out and disrupt everyone else's excited anticipation of the event. The food, when available is OK for a quick snack at the Johnny Mercer Theater (yes, they are one in the same). However, we prefer to enjoy dinner first at one of Savannah's remarkable restaurants which are plentifully depending upon your zeal for delectable gastronomic taste experience you desire. We enjoy making an evening of an enthralling musical or entertainment experience but want to spread the responsibility for helping us make our memory which we hope will last a lifetime around so as not to burden the Artist or Artists who are inviting themselves into their world so they can express and we can experience their emotional passion for their Art! Specifically John Cougar Mellencamp and KC and the Sunshine Ban both come to mind as providing us with outstanding performances expressing themselves while getting most of our audience up and out of their seats dancing in the isles with a plethora of smiles everywhere we looked! Those are the joyous lifelong memories, after a great meal that we will treasure, forever. I realize that the Savannah Civic Center will not want to read this next comment however, I would caution you that when buying your tickets for this venue IF IT is musical entertainment to get as close to the center section of the Johnny Mercer Theater as possible. Why? Because of the acoustical sound quality. I would NEVER suggest that sitting up against either wall in the floor or bottom section as this choice is NOT recipe for an enjoyably experience. I would suggest the Balcony seats over buying seats very close or against the walls of this venue because the base sound especially is just to overpowering and drowns out the music as that is all you can feel deep in you bones while losing the remaining full range of your musical experience. However, if you are a Heavy Metal enthusiast then "to the walls you must go!" for your tickets as I guarantee you will get all you ever wanted and then some. While I am not a Structural Engineer by profession I do understand and acoustical sound quality and would humbly suggest that the Savannah Civic Center Management consider a relatively inexpensive retrofit for the Johnny Mercer Theater. First, I would suggest you install large acoustical slightly slopped half moon directional shells behind each of your speakers mounted on those side walls that run the length of your theater to move that base sound off those walls back toward the sound circulating in the venue. Second, I would remove a few seats at each of the two back corners of the Johnny Mercer Theater and install slightly sloped or curved acoustical floor to ceiling columns that are thin but engineered to reflex sound, not absorb it which in this person's opinion would help some of that sound travel around the venue. These two relatively simple retrofits of this venue would help to the sound quality throughout the hall move throughout your theater. I also feel implementing changes along these lines of thought would help your Management sell more tickets to musical entertainment at the Johnny Mercer Theater. As for those who are wondering if they want to entrust their future lifelong memories to this wonderful venue, I would strongly suggest you do because it will put a smile on your face and a song in your heart! read more

Yikes. This place feels like it hasnt seen a renovation since the 80s. It felt very old and a little dirty. The chairs were itchy to sit in the theater. I was definitely not impressed with their makeshift bars outside. They really need proper bars and shop area. Plus trying to get in and out with the parking is horrendous. Your way better off walking to the center if you can. It was also not open to go through the back doors when we arrived. That was not apparent and quite frustrating as well. read more

This is a great theater that I will miss. They are tearing down the Civic Center after building the bigger Enmark Arena. This is probably the last event that we will see in the Civic Center. We had bought tickets for the Blue Man group almost 3 years ago for a March 2020 showing but the event was postponed twice due to COVID. I bought tickets as soon as they went up for sale and scored front row center seats in the pit area, which is ahead of normal seating. The Blue Man incorporate liquid paint in their percussion act and the pit was in the paint splash zone which required rain smocks!!! How fun is that? Unfortunately the Civic Center had removed the pit area for some reason so we had to be reseated. We were assigned 6th row, center which was still good seats but not as immersive as we had planned for. The Blue Man group was amazing!!! We saw them in Vegas and admit the show was a little better in Vegas. However I would buy tickets again for a local show. Their talent and percussion is a real treat. The civic center opened the doors a bit later than advertised. However we still had plenty of time to procure refreshments and find our seats. They sold popcorn, snacks and alcohol. They had one craft brew option which was nice as well as spirits. The prices are reasonable, but of course you don't expect a bargain at events like this. I look forward to Enmark Arena but will miss the days of the old Civic Center. read more

Great place, but the worst thing was the parking situation. Went to see Shen Yun. Mom has COPD and a handicapped plate. All the entrances to the lot were blocked off. I was super blessed that God left us a spot open that was fairly close. Doors opened at 1300. So give yourself 30+ minutes to find a spot. And if your not familiar with the area, it's easy to get lost with all the city squares and one way streets. Come equipped with coins. I also didn't like that people came in about 15 minutes after show started. It was rude to interrupt me, and the money I paid, fumbling around with you, because you can't show up on time and interrupt the isle to get to your seat. I'm missing some of the show because of you. If the show starts, and people don't arrive on time, lock the doors. No one can come in, just out to use the restroom. Otherwise, everything was great. Show was marvelous. read more

Great, small venue. I always look forward to the Savannah Hockey Classic, that arrives every January for 2 nights, hosting the UGA Ice DAWGS, GT, UF, and FSU. Tickets are reasonable, as are the concessions, and it's so small that every seat is a good one. Also, fun people watching, won't lie. Dress warm, for the ice and enjoy the college players playing real hockey. TOO BAD WE CAN'T GET A MINOR LEAGUE HOCKEY TEAM HERE! It's in demand, as Saturday night's always sold out. P.S. While it is a bit of an outdated complex, there is plenty of meeting and presenting space, and of course a concert venue. It is also relatively well located to some of the more historic sections of downtown. It also houses the Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame - which includes a wide range of athletes that I had no idea were connected to the city in any way. There is no doubt that the space requires some upgrading, but I am sure that is in the plans somewhere. read more

While living in the big small city of Savannah, the one thing that we lack is a large venue or arena type atmosphere where tens of thousands can attend sporting events, concerts, and so on. But the advantage to living in this great city is the I tam you that you get to experience in such a small venue. I've been to this building a number of times for hockey games, concerts, and Disney on Ice. While the concessions are marginally better than what you might find at a high school football game, the closeness that you feel to the event that you are attending makes up for it. If this building were new, it would surely get a star or maybe two less. The lighting is terrible, the building itself is tired, but again, there is an intimacy that makes you feel like you are in a bar or maybe a local arena; not a city civic center. I know the days are numbered for this landmark, but I am almost certain that it's replacement will carry over the positive attributes and improve upon the negatives. read more

Came here for the Mike Epps "Funny as ish" comedy show. Nothing wrong with the show it was done to perfection. But what I absolutely hated was that we paid $42 dollars for some super watered down drinks. My partner had a jack and coke and stuck with grey goose and pineapple juice. Even a beer in a can was 12 bucks. The people who are supposed to show you where to sit are don't know what they're doing. We were supposed to be closer but she sent us all around the entire arena before we found our seats, Also whoever is in charge of the media needs to get their ish together. I was in high school doing a better job projecting than whoever was doing it during the show. Anyways major shout out to yelp for the tickets you guys are awesome. The entrance to the main building is nice. There is a large lane for you to be dropped off or picked up. We were in the Marin Luther King Arena for the Savannah Tire Hockey Classic. The building is very dated but they have tried to keep it painted and repaired. The bathrooms were plentiful and under construction. There was never a long line. The area that needs lots of work, is the concession stand and the beer kiosks. The lines were ridiculous. Some of the longest I have ever seen anywhere. So long that they block the bathroom entrances and the other vendors like the ice cream stand. I'll definitely go to this event again. It was cool being able to see a hockey game in Savannah though. I just hope they can work out the food and drink issues. read more

First time here so do not have a comparable, but the acoustic dampners definitely works for this venue. Listened to Joe Bonamassa make his guitars cry, laugh and smile at the same time and the sounds were clear but not loud and overpowering. Looks like mid century architecture so the building has beautiful lines inside. read more

I went to the shen yun concert. I have been to the same show at another venue in another state, which was much better ran. There are three main things I would suggest the SCC do better. First off, if you are going to have a dress code for a show, enforce it. There were plenty of workers there that could have, yet they were letting people in in jeans, shorts, tshirts, etc. What happened to class? it seems like it is dead for most. Second, don't serve popcorn at a nice show! all I heard half the time, were people chomping on popcorn. you don't serve something like popcorn at a nice showe like Shen Yun. Bad form Savannah. It was bothering many around me as well! Thirdly, people were constantly showing up late and blocking views and causing distractions away from the show. If a patron is late, they shouldn't be allowed in once the show starts. their only option should be waiting until the intermission to take their seat, if they are willing. the whole time, people were coming in late and the staff was just showing them to their seats all throughout the show. this took away from the experience a great deal! it was not half as nice of an experience as it was for me before at a different location! Came here for ice skating on a Sunday. They had two different groups of times and we went at the later time. They didn't have special skates for the young kids (with the two blades) but we still had a lot of fun. It was weirdly dark in the arena but the Christmas lights above were really pretty. read more

Went to the Bill Burr show with first row tickets outside of the orchestra pit. Due to the speakers being broken it the audio sounded like it was an airplane announcement. After missing half of the show we were offered to move to different seats....20 rows back. Horrible venue. read more

My sister and I attended the Elton John concert. He and his band were excellent. This isn't a review of them. The pros: This venue is small - only 9500 people or so. The drink prices were reasonable - $5 for a single, $10 for a double The cons: The ushers in the back did not control the crowd. We had end seats and the people standing next to us were really encroaching. They were not seated anywhere near us, they just wandered there. A couple of them were very drunk, spilling drinks, etc. It was distracting to have to worry what would happen. The plastic over the cords that crossed the aisles was not clearly visible. Many people stumbled and it was impassable for some in wheel chairs. It was HOT in the venue. The AC, if it was on, was not working properly. I was drenched in sweat by the end of the concert. read more
