The good thing was, we enjoyed our walk through the mall and had plenty of time to figure out where we had to go. You get to pick specific seats but the are soft rocking type seats, not like the recliner ones I'm used to picking. Restrooms were conveniently located, the theater was clean and the prices seemed pretty reasonable. They have some sort of premium membership program but I didn't ask anything about it since I don't live in the area.

The actors were great, the singing was great. Here is the rub... It is a very small venue. I bought tickets online and paid EXTRA for premium tickets close to the stage ($40 per person). When I got there they had moved my seats because they were to the far left, but in one of the first few rows, to the center but almost in the last row. Now that in itself might be viewed as an attempt to give me better seating, but why sell premium tickets? I sat with people that paid less than I did. There is actually no bad seats because the theater is so small, so therefore no "upgraded" seats even exist. I felt that $25 might have been a better price for the venue.

This 330 seat art theater downtown is a real hidden gem. The FIA Theater regularly shows a large…read morerange of art house, foreign, music documentaries, Oscar-winning short subject documentary, and small independent films that don't get a large theatrical run. Other than that, it often shows well-respected award-winning films that only pick up steam after the Oscar season and get a second shot at the movie plex after people hear about it. I like this theater because I'm a fan of documentaries, foreign films art house cinema- you know, the stuff that isn't the typical popcorn summer blockbuster or the latest formulaic comedy starring Adam Sandler, not that there's anything wrong with Adam Sandler, but there's more to life than watching his umpteenth comedy where he plays the average joe. Anyway, some of the best and most unique films I've screened here. I recently took in screenings of the Beatles and Iggy Pop documentaries from the cinema's Music Legends series. They were both awesome and included, as all of their films do, a brief accompanying introduction/lecture before the film began. It was cheap, too. Their film series have different prices for the type of film category it is, with the Music Legends series being the cheapest at $2 each. Depending on the type of film or documentary being shown, the prices range from $2 for Music Legends to between $5-$7 for documentaries or foreign language films. Prices and schedules are always listed on the website for the FIA and on posters in the lobby. I also saw the French film, Elle, here a few months back. Complex, thought-provoking entries like that are the norm for this theater. I, for one, don't mind watching films with subtitles and if you don't mind it, either, chances are this theater could be something you could appreciate. The seats are comfortable and the theater appears to have undergone some important renovations. It's spacious, has plenty of seating and a large screen with excellent sound quality. Watching a film here is preferable in many respects to watching a movie at regular theaters with squawking kids, noisy adolescents and ignorant fools talking on their phones during the movie, at least to me. The obliviousness of the average movie-goer is largely to blame for why I have started boycotting most first-run theaters unless it's something I really want to see ASAP. At least this theater doesn't attract the goober slob type talking loudly on their phones while downing Diet Coke with scoops of gooey popcorn. Those people are gross. This is a cash-only theater, at least as of now, but the price is so cheap, who cares? Also, you can't take food and beverages inside the theater, but it's not really a problem and the floors don't stick beneath me while I'm grabbing a seat from spilled soda, which is a good thing.

MSU Summer Circle Theatre is an annual tradition each June. Plays are performed rain or shine…read more (unless weather is really threatening), at an outdoor theatre on the banks of the Red Cedar. Plays run Wednesdays through Saturday at 8:00. Some stadium type seating is available but it is more fun to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Picnic baskets are welcome. Concessions are available also. Overall, it's impossible to not have a good time at D&B's. The glow from the games and the biggest screen TV's in the area, the floor is constantly buzzing. The setup is similar to 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids but on a much smaller scale. I am not sure when they opened in relation to when my event was but a lot of the workers just seemed kinda confused and not sure how to answer questions. Me and my friend had seats on the balcony/loft and we noticed people coming upstairs to look for the seats and realizing their seats didn't exist. The workers then started setting up more seats. Super weird. If you're not in the front row on the balcony then you probs won't be seeing much! I would recommend floor seats. The other thing I would like to note is the location of the bathroom upstairs. Nice that they are close by but annoying seeing the light all night as people continuously open and close the door. Big positive was how easy it was to exit at the end of the night. Very quick!

Admission is only $3.00 for the approximately 1-hour show. It was a bit boring at first, but got more interesting as the show proceeded on. The projection technology isn't state-of-the-art by any means, but it's good enough for a very interesting show. From what I understand, it was the first planetarium to rely solely on computer graphics for its projections, which it pretty cool. After the show, they set up a telescope outside, usually pointed at something cool like a planet) and let you take a look if the weather permits. It was cloudy last night, so we didn't get to experience this part of the show. Overall, I highly recommend this if you're looking for a relaxing, inexpensive thing to do on the weekend. It's great for anyone. Whether you go as a family, on a date, or just by yourself, you'll enjoy it. I would love to see this place get the funding to upgrade its projection system. I know this building is on the potential chopping block in the university's master plan, so that may be why they haven't made any changes. Rumor is that if they do tear it down, they will rebuild it somewhere else. We all know how promises like that don't always happen. This is truly a hidden gem at MSU. Check it out!
