shelves of chocolate and candy in a store
    Melissa G.

What a chocolate shop! I wasn't expecting to have a full-on experience walking into a Chocolate shop, but I did here. I was in town looking for anything local and another shop owner down the street recommended NazBro. Upon arrival, the gentleman at the counter was helping a couple so I had a chance to browse the shelves and decide what to take home with me. You can find a wide range of chocolates -- chocolate covered berries to chocolate covered nuts, truffles and the works! I picked out my stash: an assortment box for $20 and small bags of chocolate malts, chocolate covered blueberries, chocolate covered pretzels, sea salt, caramel and the like. The couple that the Staffer had helped left and he offered my partner and I free samples. "Why, yes!" Of course we did and yummy on that warm day. What came next was the "experience" -- more of a monologue describing the percentage of chocolate a day -- the specific knowledge of how chocolate is a stimulant and how to pair it (with wine and whatnot). I wish I had the conversation recorded, it was serious choco-talk but NazBro knows their industry well and goes to Switzerland annually in the niche world of chocolatiers! I can't recommend coming here enough! It's the real deal. And if you don't live in the area, go to Nazbro dot com to order online. Just be aware that what you purchase are pure pieces -- they *will* go stale in a month's time so eat them when you get them!

Have a sweet tooth? Need a local client gift? This is your spot!!! I was introduced to this over thanksgiving 'we when I visited my brother who lives within walking distance. The entire area is a quaint place to enjoy a meal, shop stores & take a stroll. My brother describes this as an "experience!" It was. If you think of wine or beer tasting and like that, ask for the chocolate tasting- they will give you a lot of history of how chocolate came to the US, how it was changed based on accessible ingredients and they have fun trivia facts about modern day "chocolate." It was the highlight of our trip & they offer gift cards that they write & mail personally for family, clients, etc. Support Local & Indulge in this sweetness

I took my kids here years ago and they still remember it. We came back today after having lunch in Occoquan. I am so glad they are still open and doing well. The owner was just as nice and welcoming as we remembered. He gave us all good portions to sample and talked about the ingredients in the fudge. I usually don't like fudge, but the fudge here is very good, as it has pure ingredients. I love the chocolate-covered nuts. Their prices are very reasonable. I like that you can get different sizes of the chocolate-covered nuts. They make great gifts!

Finally a decent local chocolate shop. This lovely chocolatier opened in Occoquan at least 5 years ago. I happened to stop by for the first time soon after the opening. The best tasting chocolate anywhere -- and I've lived in Europe. So good and so much better than the fancy international brands. Now about 5 years later, NazBro is still my favorite for chocolate. Very well-priced chocolates, fudge, and chocolate-covered fruits will not empty your wallet. Today's haul was four "turtles" as my husband calls them and 3 flavored fudges: Pistachio, Butter Pecan and Peanut Butter Chocolate. And all that for less than $30. Along with two "gratis" chocolate pecan pretzel rods. So lovely! Not sure how long this haul will last at my house and I'm sure I better drive back there soon for a refill. I think there were about 30 kinds of fudge and I haven't tried them all. And you better get there fast, too, so you can become a fan. Mmmm....

Located in historic Occoquan VA, it's mainly a chocolate shop that ethically sources its cocoa from different countries around the world in order to make their in house (mostly dark) chocolate bars and bon bons. They also serve gelato, drinking chocolate (hot cocoa) and on select weekends homemade pizza with sourdough via Graffiti Cat! The shop is very small with no seating inside but there are a couple tables and chairs right outside and in the alley (in the winter we just get it to go or eat in the car). Parking is hard as it's very busy and it's on a historic street so it's all on the side of the sidewalk. The drinking chocolate is my favorite! I always have to order a traditional (think American hot cocoa but with a richer feel), and a European drinking chocolate (smaller cup with less milk but so rich like drinking straight melted dark chocolate!, so absolutely delicious!). I often get their bonbons as well which are handmade and have various flavors like toasted coconut, Ugandan Dark chocolate (named for the country of cocoa origin), raspberry and mint, along with a few others. I got the 70% dark chocolate, the mint chocolate, and the toasted coconut. I liked two of them but the mint chocolate tasted a bit too much like toothpaste to me so I didn't finish that one. Now onto the Pizza. They make their own sourdough for these personal size pizzas, and use fresh ingredients. They have a set menu except for one special pizza which changes each week and is updated on their website. I ordered the margarita pizza and added pepperoni on top. The margarita part was tasty and the sourdough really compliments the ingredients well...if you like sourdough you'll love these pizzas. I would say that the pepperoni is more porky than beefy and since I don't tend to like pork I didn't appreciate it as much as I usually do. If you like pork you will be fine with it. The pizza is NY style in that it is thin and chewy. I think it could use a bit more sauce but it's tasty nonetheless. My husband got the cheese pizza and he enjoyed it but not nearly as much as me (though he doesn't love sourdough like I do). The service is great and I love the adorable cat mascot for the pizza. They hand draw on each pizza box and each one is unique, which is cool. If you look out the window you'll see they 'graffitied' a graffiti cat on the brick on the side of the building. Bon bons: 4/5 Drinking chocolate: 5/5 Pizza: 4/5 TLDR: delicious dark chocolate for drinking and eating; ethically sourced. Pizza pop up on weekends is good and has a cute cartoon cat mascot. Parking sucks, but that's just historic districts for you. I dream of the drinking chocolate and need to get it at least once a month. I definitely recommend both Potomac Chocolate and Graffiti Cat.

They were not overly busy and easy to get to if you're already walking around the downtown area. There's not a lot of parking so expect to look for spots and walk a good distance. Not ideal if you're just going to this area to pick up some food, but its a very nice and unique historic town to visit and see. The variety of choclates is diverse and unique, probably not things you'll find anywhere else. However, many of the varieties are dark chocolate and taste quite bitter. The pizza is unique as well in they use sourdough bread for the crust. Its definitely different, but felt like it overpowered every other flavor on the pizza. Worth a try if you enjoy dark choclates and sourdough, otherwise you may not find much you like to eat here.

This place keeps the Belgian brews stocked across the spectrum. From fruity Lambics to Tripels (my personal fave) and Quadrupels, pales to darks. There's a lot to explore here. The food is pretty good too. The frites (fries) are excellent and pair well with the beer. They are thick without veering into steak fry territory, nicely crunchy, and packed with a pleasing amount of salt (and I believe a hint of vinegar). The waffles are also a standout, typically topped with light and airy cream. The merguez lamb sausage is also hearty and delicious. I wish the building itself was larger. There's only a few tables, meaning you may be in for a wait if you go during the colder months. And I recently had the chocolate mousse and didn't care for it. It was much more akin to pudding, and there wasn't a deep enough chocolate flavor to contrast with the whipped cream. There's no better place I've found in Occoquan to eat, drink, and be merry. I highly recommend you stop here when you visit.

I ordered a vegetarian crepe, and my friend got an Oreo crepe. Both were decent, but honestly pretty underwhelming. The flavors were fine, just not memorable, and definitely not something I'd go out of my way to get again. I also tried a vanilla chai latte, which was the same story--good, but nothing special. The biggest downside for me was the value. I ended up spending around $17, and it just didn't feel worth it. Between the portion size and the overall taste, it felt like something I could've easily made at home for a fraction of the price. Service was okay. The woman working there had a more straightforward, no-frills personality--not particularly warm or welcoming, but not rude either. Just very to-the-point. The space itself is also pretty small, with limited seating. It's probably best suited for quick stops or takeout rather than sitting and hanging out for a while. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but it didn't give me a strong reason to come back. If you're nearby and curious, it might be worth trying once--but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
