I said "where?" She then physically points to the glass doors but there's nothing visible because the paper printed notice is taped on the interior side of the glass doors and might I add the glass is heavily tinted and not even a fresh set of eyes can detect it. After I continued to make an obvious observation she then "slaps her manicured hand" on the glass door to attempt to plead her case in front of a handful of other citizens disabled or retired or whatever the reason the were also arriving prior to the 4pm closing time. I told her "most of us that come here are disabled and or elderly and retired, you know I'm right!" She replies "si yeah you're right!, you're always right" so I left humiliated, disrespected, and discriminated by this "Barbie Rent a Cop" as pretty as she may appear in the mirror she has and makes herself look disgusting by her attitude of which we the tax payers employ her!!! I've been on hold with their 800 number because now I don't even want to step foot in that office due to her publicly disrespecting and humiliating me and others alike. Know I will be filling a formal complaint and seek council on this disgusting discrimination issue!!! Note I made her aware of my disability but her response was a sarcastic giggle! as she's now having dinner I'm still on "hold" when I too should be having dinner! Oh and right at 4:30pm most of the SSA agents were leaving the office!

I've crossed into Mexico through this border crossing several times, but I have never used it to…read morecross back into the United States. I usually crossed at the San Luis border crossing, so these five stars are for my experience heading south only. Driving from LA to Mexicali is an adventure... a 4-hour adventure to be exact. Two hours south on the 405/5/805, and then two more hours on the 8/98 west. Crossing into Mexico is a breeze, as long as you have nothing to declare, nor look like a trouble maker. Once across, you'll find yourself in downtown Mexicali. Coming back to the US at this border station would benefit you most if you have Sentri. If you don't then you will only have a limited window to cross using the Ready Lane. Else, it's the general lane for you. I have my passport card, but I am still in the process of getting my Sentri, so I don't use this border crossing. There is a sister station: the east crossing. But much like this border station, the eastern crossing also has a small window in which all its lanes are open. This is all surprising, because San Luis Rio Colorado is a far smaller town than Mexicali, yet the San Luis border crossing has all three lanes open 24-hours a day. Keep all this in mind when you plan your trip.

I thought this review went through with photos but it's back in my drafts... but here it is again…read more There are two separate border crossings in Mexicali-East and West. You can go through either but commercial vehicles go through the East crossing so we go through the west. Even with two, the wait can be pretty long. We went through on the day after a holiday and the wait was 2 hrs. in the morning crossing into the US and 1 hr going into Mexico and back at night. I recommend checking the Border Wait Time App before going. It tells you the wait time at that time and also gives the best time of the week with the lowest wait time. It really helped us when we lived in Ensenada and crossed often.

It's ridiculously how trying to get from Mexicali into border gate such hassle either, with all the high technologies and screening of applying for passport they still make it difficult! I chose this location over LAX preferring the open desert roads to OC/LA traffic. I'm glad I paid attention to the written directions to get to the office. There were signs, but it was still unclear in a few areas. The instructions provided in the confirmation were correct. From San Diego take I-8 East to CA-7 South to the Port of Entry. Exit on Carr Rd (International Border/Cars) then turn right at top of the bridge. Turn left before the last U.S. exit and proceed to the security booth. It's that left that feels really weird to make, but I trusted the directions and it took me there. The guy just needed my drivers license at the gate and told me where to park. I was in and out within about 15min. Have your paperwork ready to hand over when you check in- I needed employment/income information, rental agreement/lease, and passport. A pic, some fingerprints, and a few questions and I was on my way back to SD with an approved application. My appointment was at 9:20 and I was able to make it there and back to SD before noon.

Free to look around the grounds and giftshop; but there is a fee to climb to the top for the best and most expansive view ($9.50 as of this writing). The tower is next to "Boulder Park" featuring some truly hideous sculptures created by an unemployed engineer during the depression. The boulders are much more notable for what may be cupules created by Native Americans, cups that are caved out of rock as part of ceremonies and rituals. A smattering of animals live on the grounds including chickens and peacocks. Free parking.

My husband and I enjoyed our visit quite a bit. We paid the fee to climb to the top of the tower and go exploring the boulders on the property as well. The tower interior is home to a magical shop full of antiques and second-hand treasures. The boulders next to the tower are fun to explore and have lots of animals painted onto the boulders in the shapes of various animals. As you can tell we really enjoyed our visit BUT... The one road in and out of the Desert View Tower property is absolutely littered on both sides with (maybe) abandoned motor homes, shanties, and whole collections of god-only-knows-what! And the road itself is like driving on the surface of the moon. I felt like I was driving into a scene of "The Hills Have Eyes" (kids ask your Gen X parents about that one). Seriously... I thought we might be murdered and eaten! But if you're feeling brave, come well-armed, and are willing to pop a tire and ruin your suspension, it's a GREAT place to visit!
