Not the best fit if you're looking for preventative care and solutions to avoid bone loss and…read morecostly future visits. I requested a preventative procedure during two prior visits. I discussed my interest in getting this treatment three times, once with the dental assistant and twice with the doctor and dental assistant together. I was told numerous times that the procedure was expensive and not covered by insurance; I'd already researched on my own and had my mind set on getting the treatment, but the doctor and dental assistant made it seem as if the procedure was unnecessary and talked me out of the idea, so I trusted their judgment and moved on. At a later visit, I was informed that I'd need to get more work done (that was more expensive than the preventative procedure I'd previously requested) that could have been avoided if I'd not been talked out of getting preventative work done. When I brought this issue up during my cleaning, there was, conveniently, no record of my request. The dental assistant I had before had not documented what we discussed nor my concerns/needs, and was no longer employed at the office. Great. To make matters worse, the doctor said we never had the discussion, even though we did and he told me the procedure was expensive and not covered by insurance, he even told me the price per tooth and I distinctly remember saying I was fine with it and they still talked me out of it. It could be that the doctor forgot what we'd previously discussed considering the number of appointments they have and patients they see--it'd be impossible to remember every single issue or request a patient has, but that's what the notes are for, and my notes were never documented... by anyone. I also noticed during my cleaning, that the dental hygienist commented on how the charts from my wisdom teeth extractions hadn't been updated either. While the assistant responsible is no longer at Utica Dental, I can't help but wonder how many patients have been impacted by similar negligence and why there wasn't some system or audit to follow up on those charts to confirm that they're correct especially if the assistant's departure was due to performance issues. The office manager apologized for the mistake and offered a discount on the procedure, which I appreciate, but ultimately, it was no consolation for my loss. I decided to switch to an office that emphasizes preventative care and maintaining natural tooth structure to avoid extra visits and costly repairs, surgeries, cosmetics, (or worse) in the future--no matter how profitable or beneficial for business metrics.

I did ask about Invisalign at my appointment and we went through that consultation. Dr. Hinkle took the time to answer my questions but when I left I realized he's missed some key points in the discussion such as how long I would have to wear them. Overall, I think this was a pretty good dental experience.

I've invested a year going to Origin Dental without having any dental work actually done. If you…read morehave a dental emergency, the cavity is likely to get worse before they work on it. Appointments are always spaced months apart. Communication with the dentist is limited; not every visit she's able to see you. When you do see her, the exam is communicated more to staff than to you. I have pre-existing nerve damage and at increased susceptibility to local anesthetic-induced neurotoxicity. I tried to communicate this to the dental assistant at the appointment where I was being fitted for a crown, and she referred me to see a functional doctor and with the intimidating comment that it'll likely be "all or nothing with the dentist". I have a couple minor fillings needed in my two front teeth that won't require anesthetic, but that's not the full procedure they want me to have. I call up there and the receptionist doesn't return my call but cancels my long awaited for procedure, and schedules another consultation at the end of the month, which I'm only notified of via automated text. I really wanted to give this office a positive review, and have been very patient with them. I've had on my chart that I have multiple sclerosis, and have voiced my concerns best I can. I went to this "holistic" dentist thinking that they would give me more catered options to my sensitivities. I'd give them a one star review, but I'm giving them a two star because my visit with the dental hygienist went well. She discovered that I had an overgrowth of yeast, which I later learned was caused by a severe injury I had to antibiotics. Even if a functional doctor were miraculously to alleviate some of my acquired sensitivities contributing to my toxic neuropathy, this doesn't mean my minor fillings needed couldn't be addressed nor does it mean I should chance an anesthetic with my pre-existing nerve damage.
