Not the best fit if you're looking for preventative care and solutions to avoid bone loss and…read morecostly future visits. I requested a preventative procedure during two prior visits. I discussed my interest in getting this treatment three times, once with the dental assistant and twice with the doctor and dental assistant together. I was told numerous times that the procedure was expensive and not covered by insurance; I'd already researched on my own and had my mind set on getting the treatment, but the doctor and dental assistant made it seem as if the procedure was unnecessary and talked me out of the idea, so I trusted their judgment and moved on. At a later visit, I was informed that I'd need to get more work done (that was more expensive than the preventative procedure I'd previously requested) that could have been avoided if I'd not been talked out of getting preventative work done. When I brought this issue up during my cleaning, there was, conveniently, no record of my request. The dental assistant I had before had not documented what we discussed nor my concerns/needs, and was no longer employed at the office. Great. To make matters worse, the doctor said we never had the discussion, even though we did and he told me the procedure was expensive and not covered by insurance, he even told me the price per tooth and I distinctly remember saying I was fine with it and they still talked me out of it. It could be that the doctor forgot what we'd previously discussed considering the number of appointments they have and patients they see--it'd be impossible to remember every single issue or request a patient has, but that's what the notes are for, and my notes were never documented... by anyone. I also noticed during my cleaning, that the dental hygienist commented on how the charts from my wisdom teeth extractions hadn't been updated either. While the assistant responsible is no longer at Utica Dental, I can't help but wonder how many patients have been impacted by similar negligence and why there wasn't some system or audit to follow up on those charts to confirm that they're correct especially if the assistant's departure was due to performance issues. The office manager apologized for the mistake and offered a discount on the procedure, which I appreciate, but ultimately, it was no consolation for my loss. I decided to switch to an office that emphasizes preventative care and maintaining natural tooth structure to avoid extra visits and costly repairs, surgeries, cosmetics, (or worse) in the future--no matter how profitable or beneficial for business metrics.

I did ask about Invisalign at my appointment and we went through that consultation. Dr. Hinkle took the time to answer my questions but when I left I realized he's missed some key points in the discussion such as how long I would have to wear them. Overall, I think this was a pretty good dental experience.

I got to sit in the recovery room and had the most pleasant conversation with Gabby. she was kind, reassuring, personable, and a breath of fresh air that soothed my anxiety and aching momma heart after watching my baby be put under for the first time. I had an amazing connection with her, and the rest of the staff was kind and respectful too, even when I changed my mind about the treatment we came in for originally. I am so grateful they weren't pushy or rude and eager to help my kiddo feel better and be protected from future cavity issues.

They had a small waiting room full of 10 patients/guardians, 3 front desk employees, more employees coming and going several of which with very obvious mask violations in a tiny/confined space where social distancing isn't possible. None of the office supplies were being sanitized. Pens, iPads they ask parents to use, clipboards they ask parents to use...I watched all of them get passed around and replaced without being cleaned. The front door attendant was taking temperatures but I heard her not remember a family of 4 that came through and guess at what they had been. I did not feel safe in their office and won't be returning.
