It was perfect because we could only stay overnight and this was the only place we could find that was flexible. Fairly close to Yosemite in case you wanted to visit and VERY close to Bass Lake! Randy, our host, communicated with me right as I booked the cabin and was always easy to get a hold of. When we arrived, he gave us a thorough tour of the cabin and instructions on how to use everything. Manzanita Cabin is absolutely thee most charming cabin I've ever stayed in!! We were a party of 12 and fit comfortable in this spacious place. The huge wood table fit us all comfortably for meals and we had a great time playing games/sitting around the wood burning fireplace in the living room as well. The kitchen was very spacious and had everything we needed in regards to pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. The rooms were comfy and had furnaces in case we wanted a little extra warmth. There were three bathrooms all beautifully renovated! Downstairs there's even a small game room for kids and a huge garage with a washer and dryer if needed. Though a little chilly, we spent some time on the porches that wrapped around the whole house. This cozy cabin definitely stole our hearts and we cannot wait to return!! Unfortunately the grounds are not as nice as I expected from the pictures on the website. The area around the driveway, garage, and parking area was very dry and it could use some water and landscaping. This is the kind of place you want to see a beautiful garden so you can sit outside and enjoy the warm weather and scenic views! As far as our stay went, let me start out by saying that Judy, the owner, is a total sweetie. She greeted us with open arms and a big smile. She showed us to our room (room 1), which had a "private" porch, "private" hot tub, and a beautiful view. Then, she sat us down and explained to us the rules, which were plenty: Take a shower before using the hot tub , hair up in the hot tub, only use the green towels for the hot tub, don't waste electricity, keep the noise to a minimum, don't drink too much in the hot tub, don't waste water, "quite time" starts at 9pm, etc....she said if any of the rules were broken, we would be charged extra. For $170 a night, we didn't expect as many rules. This was my boyfriend's first visit to Yosemite so I wanted to stay someplace wonderful. Although Vulture's View was nice and had an amazing view from the hot tub, it was not as wonderful as I had expected for the price. The first night we enjoyed a beer and a delicious dinner at Yosemite Forks Mountain House Restaurant in Oakhurst. Yum! I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The next morning we got up at 4:30am and headed to Yosemite to hike Half Dome. Great time. We returned after dinner, around 8:30pm, a little surprised to find that our bed was not made and our towels were not replenished. Also, we were not given any additional food for the next day's breakfast. Pros: * Friendly hosts * Deer frequently roam the property * the private outdoor jacuzzi w/ amazing view * comfortable bed w/ nice sheets * nice fireplace (although it was way too hot to use it) * the room was stocked with fruit, mini-cereal, coffee, a mini fridge, a microwave, etc. * flat-screen tv w/ cable & dvd player * room was a cool temperature (providing a nice relief from the heat outside) . Cons: * We had a non smoking room, but it smelled of cigarette smoke. * Jacuzzi wasn't that hot (and took a LONG time to heat up) * the grounds could have been kept up a little bit better * too many rules * we left for the day and when we came back our bed was not made and towels were not replenished. * dirty wine glasses :( * although there was a coffee maker in the room, the coffee and cream were not good. (and I was really looking forward to a cup of coffee after waking up at 3:30am before hiking Half Dome) * the alarm clock's alarm was broken Recommendations: * Bring a bottle of wine to enjoy while watching the sunset in the hot tub * Bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. * Make sure to read the guest book (filled with many cute stories) * Bring your own coffee and cream (and some food to stock your mini-fridge)

From talking to friends who visited, blogs, trip advisor and other sites it was definitely clear that either you camp with the masses in the park, or you decide on the surrounding towns and stay a good 30 minutes from the Park. We went on to several sites when it came to a place to stay and it was difficult to really find a place that seemed convincing because most were not reviewed much. We decided on Heaven's Gate (yes the same name of that creepy cult that killed themselves) to accommodate us on our family trip for my dads 75th birthday. The pictures DO NOT give this place justice. Before you get in and Arrival We arrived right after another party checked out and the cleaning team was leaving as we arrived a bit early. They left the place spotless and we quickly realized the gem this warm household was going to be during our stay. There is detail in this place, from having all state of the art kitchen goods, to the detail in the bathrooms which are equipped with great jet powered baths and you will even have great quality hair and soap products to go along with the amazing fresh well water that you can drink! The rooms are all really well decorated with clean and good quality linens and each with plenty of drawers, closet space. There are many things to cover here so I will do my best to summarize the biggest pieces for us when we were there. Food and Local Shops Oakhurst is a nice sized town with many of your typical fast food, coffee and spots like Jamba Juice. I would recommend you arrive here before you make a stop at the local VONS which is part of a big grocery chain nationwide (i.e in Arizona there is Safeway and they use the same rewards cards, fuel points etc). The pantry has tons of goods to help you prep your meals, there were some perishable items left from previous guest that even we used. There are some jars with flour, sugar, coffee beans (yes coffee beans for the grinder and french press that is available ;) along with many other items that can save you some money in case you are traveling from far or were considering packing. The trip to these place is just 5-10 minutes away from the house that is a the top of the valley. If you need to know more talk to Sunday, she helped me learn about this before my trip. Electronics/Games and the second house If you are like me and you want to avoid work and unnecessary emails because you are on vacation. You might not care about the fast speed internet WIFI that is provided free to you. There are two stories to this place and the lower level encompasses a nice big living area with an attached bedroom that is well sized having two queen beds and room for crib for kids (they have a traveler there for your baby). This living area also joins the garage access which is actually a game room with a fooze ball, ping pong, and hockey table. Again good quality too. There is a laundry room down there too if you are traveling for a while and need to do some refreshing. My sister and her family called dibs for this area of the house and it worked out great because it felt like another house within the house. I would caution those with children as the getting up stair from here will require a big stair climb and when at the top you need to make sure to close off this area. Again, the detail of this place is well thought out and Sunday provides you a child fence to make sure your kids can stay safe. Outside and the BBQ Deck This place sits at the top of a nice mountain overlooking the valley. It sits in a big property so seeing neighbors or hearing them is not something you will worry about. There seems to be some deer that live on the property because they are right by you, although please don't feed them. There are several patio's that you can eat at depending on the year, whether at the front of the house or in the back or downstairs. The BBQ grill is awesome, very high end and it has propane along with the necessary cooking utensils. Sunday has several contacts that can cook for you but we did it ourselves because it was such a great convenience and the costs at the local grocery store were the same as at home plus they have such a huge selection for the international travelers so you will find great foods from all parts of the world. There has to be room for improvement, not much In terms of the house believe me I don't have all the answers but I will say there is not much to work on. The biggest piece for me to share is that if you have kids be warned of the stairs both inside and at the deck outside (see the picture). There is only one child gate available and it has seen it's better days, so maybe consider replacing it and get another one to make sure kids are safe.

Booking was made easy through their website, but boy oh boy, the prices are kind of steep because they're near Bass Lake. The area is beautiful and it is convenient for them to have all these places like a market, a bar, a restaurant, and other things on site. Heck, they even have a gas pump available so you really don't have to leave the area. The king room cabin was impressive although a bit outdated. I've never sat on a couch that squeaked that much before. The room we were given had the smallest view of the lake, but nonetheless it was still a peaceful time with the balcony. Staff was friendly through all interactions from an easy check in, assistance with my friend's wedding, to check out. The pool was a great size along with the hot tub and my husband enjoyed both. Parking is plentiful, albeit could be a bit of an awkward angle to park at especially in the 100s cabins. For the price we paid, it was surprising that there were no free water bottles available in the fridge (even 2 would've helped to start us off) and my husband was hungry on a Thursday night but their kitchen was closed early despite the restaurant continuing to stay open for a couple more hours. There's a QR code for late night food delivery that he tried to opt in to and he said that reflected as closed to... so I guess rule of thumb is to bring your own food for emergencies?

The cabins freely a bit outdated, but the property is really clean and well kept, and the restaurants and bars were amazing. We had such a fun time. Huge shoutout to Kim from the security team, who was incredibly friendly, patient, and took great care of us, even shuttling us back and forth to the Pines Bar a few times. Honestly, every staff member we encountered was awesome. Short stay, great experience, and we'll definitely be back.

It was also nice getting a chance to mingle with some of the others staying at the inn. People traveling from all over the world to see the beauty of Yosemite. Clean, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms. And the outdoor area with deer is something to dream about. My Portuguese "children" loved everything about Dawn and her Mighty Oaks. My husband who does not say a lot said to me, "It is such a pleasant and wonderful experience." Yes, Dawn is an inspiration to me. She has re-invented herself and brought back faith to me that yes, we the common people can fight back (and win) against our crazy, greedy "banksters". I will go back to stay with her any time I have out of town guests waning to go to Yosemite. It may be as early as November. See you soon Dawn.
