I had never had Rolfing and was looking for someone experienced to help me work through significant body pain associated with long term stress. I am so glad I found Allie! I purchased a set of 10 appointments (at a discounted rate), and I am so glad I did. Rolfing would not have been effective for me as a one time appointment. I had a lot of residual pain and chronic inflammation that I needed consistent help with. At the start of the process, Allie was very thorough in reviewing my specific needs and what I was hoping to address. There's a lot of discomfort in the moment during Rolfing - I am not going to sugar coat it - it is intense. At the same time, I am so glad I stuck with it. Allie has been my body's physical healer for the last four weeks. I just completed session four (of ten). I've struggled with chronic lower back pain for the past nine years (compounded by pregnancy, giving birth, and triggered by injuries from pickings up, dance and yoga classes). My experience so far has been very healing. As of now, the effects I'm noticing the most have been emotional and psychological. There is still some lower back pain, although it's lessened. But what I've mainly noticed is: more clarity, determination, authenticity, ability to speak my truth and ask for what I need, a clearer sense of life purpose. It's really been an extremely empowering experience thus far. My time on the table is at times very painful (at one point in session two I was reminded of childbirth pains, that is the only thing that compares), however even in the moment it feels so good/beneficial and thus is interpreted by my brain as "good". I was skeptical of rolfing at first, but after completing my 10 series, I AM HOOKED! I would highly recommend rolfing to everyone, from those with ailments to the super fit athletes. Allie is incredibly professional and genuinely cares about her patients. There's been countless sessions where we've ended later than the scheduled time--just because she wanted to make sure she spent enough time diffusing the facia. She offers a very reasonable price given her extensive training and experience. I recently found out that she works both at her own practice and at SenSpa, a high end spa where they charge $165/session. For the exact same service, you pay a fraction of the price! Yes please! Couple of things to consider: 1) Stick it out for at least 4-5 sessions. I didn't feel any significant changes for the first 3 sessions. However, after the 4th session my entire body felt so much more nimble. 2) Don't expect rolfing alone to be a cure all. For me, personal training, diet and rolfing works wonders. I feel more healthy now than I ever have. 3) It's not relaxing like a swedish massage. It's much closer to targeted foam rolling. There's been sessions where I felt like the pain level is like rumble roller x 10...but it's so worth it afterwards! I have been seeing Allie MingLi Jiang for Rolfing for over two years, her work has been very helpful with my chronic tension on shoulders and back pain due to T4/T5 deviation and computer related stress. I found Allie after having pain in my leg (from my hip to my knee) for about three months. It was waking me up at night, was making me tired, and just bringing me down. I finally got tired of it and decided to do something about it. I had never tried Rolfing before but had heard it was very effective. I found that to be 100% accurate. From the first session, I noticed a change in my body, the way I stood, walked, and an improvement on my pain. I committed to ten sessions which I have now completed and can say that not only has the pain gone from my leg but I also stand differently. I was diagnosed with a severely compressed disk between L4 & L5. Before getting surgery I was referred to Allie Mingli Jiang. I am so glad because after 3 sessions the pressure on my lower back was greatly reduced. My back was straighter and taller. I am virtually pain free and able to move much better. I had been receiving regular deep tissue massage for years, and had started to feel like my body needed work that was more lasting and structurally reorienting. Massage felt great during, but then immediately after I'd just feel myself tense up all over again and slip into the same postural imbalances. An acquaintance kept mentioning the benefits of rolfing, so I thought I'd give it a try. I found Allie through an online search and saw she had good reviews and reasonable pricing. I'm so glad I found her! Allie has been amazing. I have had 7 sessions so far out of the total 10-part initial package, and I immediately noticed the benefits. My body feels more balanced, I have more subtle awareness of my musculature and movements, and I'm better able to tune into signals of when I need to stretch and move around. My posture is better when I'm sitting all day at work. I feel lighter, as if there is more spaciousness between all the moving parts of my body. It's been great, and I look forward to more. Each time, it's like another lightbulb moment where my somatic awareness increases. It's like my body is becoming more alive and linked to my normal intellectual understanding. In that sense, I've found this work to be deeply integrative. The actual rolfing is an experience unto itself. It does require the ability to breath deeply and surrender to intense sensation. You know the part of the massage where they are hitting your trigger point or going really deep? Well, almost every moment of rolfing is going to be like that. But because Allie is such a comfort and caring with her energy and movements, I find I'm able to let go into her expert hands. And then the endorphins kick in, and it feels really awesome. Plus knowing that not a moment or movement is wasted. This work is all about efficient, effective soft tissue realignment. It's whole body myofascial release, which includes working with the interstitium (what scientists are now dubbing a "new" organ and a "body-wide communicating system"). I also love that Allie is not just versed in the vernacular of rolfing, but that she understands Chinese medicine and can talk in terms of meridians and blocked energy. Rolfing really works for my condition. I needed to go into the structure, the facia, the connective tissue rather than the muscles. So massage wasn't helping. Your therapy is very personal. Look into rolfing to see if it may be for you. It's really helped me. and Allie is good at it. She has a very comfortable space, clean and warm. I have sciatic back pain, mostly from the piriformis muscle. The sciatic nerve gets aggravated and sends horrible pain around my pelvis and legs. The rolfing treatment by Allie really has helped me after a few sessions. Allie is the best, I've been seeing her for over a year and I've never felt better. I have chronic pain in my neck for years resulting in headaches several times a week, and was also in car accident that put me in chiropractic care which wasn't enough without Rolphing. I'm now in my third year as a client of Ming Li. My first experience with Rolfing was in 2012. I saw her based on a recommendation from a friend that thought I would be a perfect candidate with the issues I had. These included a sore lower back, constant neck strain along with poor posture. I went through the 10 session series and was extremely satisfied with the results. All of my issues were addressed along with other issues I wasn't eve aware of. She was always conscientious of my comfort level (it doesn't have to be painful) and was very good at explaining the purposes and benefits of each session for me. Before seeing Allie i was in alot of pain. I had difficulty walking and standing. One of my friends referred me to Allie and rolfing. I was lucky enough to have met Allie a few months back. I have suffered from chronic back tension and stiffness due to the nature of my work and to a mild scoliosis. Rolfing I've been a true believer of Rolfing for years. I had been introduced to Rolfing from a golf mailing list at work where one member hailed it as the cure for his chronic back pain. I was skeptical until I did more research and became impressed by the sound principles it was based upon. I do not trust chiropractors at all and massages are just temporary relief. I had strained my back pretty bad so I decided to give Rolfing a chance. Immediately Rolfers can diagnose what's wrong with your body. For me, old injuries, tensions, and years of bad posture had done its damage. It was alarming when my Rolfer showed me how one leg was lined up almost 2 inches shorter than the other when laid on the table. After some work got that sorted out I felt a whole lot taller and my body was in sync. The body is a connected, confusing thing that easily gets out of wack. My back was fixed and I felt physically better than I had in years, I got a lot of comments wondering how I got taller in such a short amount of time. ROLFING literally saved my life!!!!! And Allie is a miracle worker. I've suffered with pinched nerves for way too long. Feeling fine going to bed and then waking up in agony; not able to move my head without wincing. Hurt to breathe. Then aftet being to several types of therapy for neck and shoulder aches and pains over the last 20+ years, i finally discovered what really works. It is Rolfing!!! Everything from acupressure, acupuncture, chiropractors, surgeons, physical therapists, dry needling, active release therapy, and countless types of massage was only a temporary fix. It was very frustrating to have professionals in all of these categories tell me i was a lot of work. And not a 1 had an answer. The very first 10 minutes with Allie, i could tell she understood how to fix me. It isn't a quick fix. Be patient. It's a process. But so is anything worthwhile for your body. I basically ignored the pain in my right side of my neck so long, my muscles on the left side pulled my spine crooked. A Rolfer can basically 'unwind' the muscles in a specific order that allows the entire traumatized muscle to be able to go back to normal tension. And then the bones can rest in their normal spot after the tension is released. Most massage therapists focus on just the sore area, when most of the time the sore area stems from a previous issue or injury not in the same area. A left anke injury can lead to right shoulder problems. Lets put it this way: if i had a million dollars to give Allie, i wouldn't hesitate to hand it over. That's how much Rolfing did for me.
