Serita is amazing, she is able to apply targetted pressure to work on the muscles and mine needed it, especially in the neck and shoulder area. I felt completely relaxed during the massage and almost floating. She took her time on the problem areas and really made sure she worked out the kinks and knots, along with giving me an all body massage for full relaxation and tension relief. She is very knowledgeable and asked if I have any injuries beforehand to get to know me and my body. Her office is super cute, no thrills and despite having windows face 3rd street not really noisy. I just had a 90 min massage with Serita and it was absolutely amazing. The studio is super cozy and clean and the massage bed was heated to perfect temperature. Serita is very friendly and professional. She addressed all my problems areas before the massage and periodically checked on me to make sure the pressure was just right. She knows exactly how to work on the tough spots on my body and applies a lot of targeted pressure (because I like it that way), so I always feel completely unwound and relaxed when she's finished. I have had hundreds of massages all over the world. I have chronic pain in my neck and shoulder from an injury when a drunk driver rear ended my car over 10 years ago. I see a chiropractor and am always in search of relief from the pain. Last night at about 8:00 pm, I yelp'd massage therapists in Potrero Hill area because I was having some major pain. I called several of the highly recommended ones but Jennifer is the only one who called me back almost immediately. She was able to make an appointment with me for this morning at 9:30. It is now about 12 hours after my massage with her and it is the first time in months that I am completely pain free. When people who review her call what she does Body Work they are exactly right. This was more than a massage, it was Body Work. During the massage she was able to feel exactly where my pain was. It hurt like hell while she worked those areas but afterward...only pain free bliss. Usually when I've had deep muscle work done I am really sore from the massage itself - although it does relieve some of my pain. Today, no residual pain from the body work. Amazing. Jennifer is the best masseuse I've ever been to. And I've been to many. I used to be a regular at Psoas Massage in SoMa where they have great masseuses, highly recommend that place too. But Jennifer is a notch above any of the masseuses I've ever worked with. I'm a dancer and need regular body work to be able to maintain a high level of athleticism in my dance, and she has become a regular part of my routine in maintaining my body. I highly highly recommend her to anyone who is having any sort of discomfort in their body. She is incredibly astute and sensitive to people's bodies, and though you may feel jelly-like and/or bruised after a session, it will tremendously help your body. Hands down the best body work I have ever had. Both for serious muscular issues and stress reduction... I'm a chef and work on my feet 10 plus hours a day. I started seeing her when my legs started to go numb. seriously.. After a couple of sessions I was back in good shape. She opened up the blood flow to my legs and back, which in turn helped the rest of my body to function more efficiently. I go twice a month to be proactive. When I tweak a muscle I put in an emergency call and usually she can fit me in. What makes her better then most I've tried is her firm nimble powerful hands and vast knowledge of anatomy. My office/warehouse is in the American Industrial Center right down the hall from Jennifer's treatment room. Lucky? I think so! Naturally, I made an appointment out of the sheer convenience of her location to me, but I am greatly impressed when nearly a week after my initial treatment my neck still feels loose and limber. I haven't felt that way about my neck and shoulders in years. I gained improvement in both my emotional and physical well-being after just one appointment with Jennifer. I will be seeing her regularly from now on - she is just that good. Jennifer has been practicing massage therapy for something like 15 years, so she definitely has experience on her side. Highly, highly recommend. Tip: If you see Jennifer during the week, you will want to allow yourself a bit of extra time for parking. Parking in the Dog Patch area is not too difficult, but you probably will have to find a space a few blocks away. If you are seeing her on the weekend, you will not have any problem parking within 1 block. The KT Light Rail also stops right in front of the AIC building. Another tip: I found her to be a very quick responder when I emailed for appointments. Jennifer is a wonderful body worker with an extensive resume and experience in this field. She has great hands, knows and uses a lot of different techniques, and is able to pin point where the issue is coming from. Her work is most assuredly deep tissue and she is great at treating sports injuries, muscular issues, stress reduction, and tension. I noticed that all these reviews are for Jennifer, who I'm sure is excellent. However, given that Jennifer was fully booked, I took a chance on Serita and it paid off. I have many shoulder and upper back knots from a desk job and asked her to focus on breaking those up effectively, but without leaving me in agony. Not only did Serita have a great, bubbly demeanor, but also a strong intuition for how much pressure was correct; I only had to ask her to make one adjustment, which she immediately implemented. I adore Serita. I've been receiving massages from her for over a year and followed her to this location when you moved. This location can be a little tricky finding parking so it's best to leave 15 minutes early for your appointment. Once you arrive at the room, it's worth the trek. The rooms are cozy and clean, and the natural lighting creates a relaxing ambiance. Serita is a compassionate soul with an intuitive, healing touch. I always feel safe and comfortable with her. I have a back injury that can be very uncomfortable at times, but after sessions with Serita, I feel reset, walking strong, and tensioned released. I crossfit pretty regularly so my muscles need a lot of attention. I've tried out MANY masseuses over the years and this is the only place that knows how to properly massage an athlete! I first started getting massages from Jennifer. She is awesome. She then brought on Serita who is equally as awesome and can take appointments that are more convenient for my busy schedule. Both Jennifer and Serita are strong and know how to find trouble spots and work them out. They know how to apply the right amount of pressure and are the only masseuses I've ever met that have been able to do so. They have actually occasionally applied a little too much pressure (which is a good thing!). And they are very receptive to your feedback on that front. I've been searching for a good masseuse for YEARS. All the others have been too weak and just put their hands on you and move them around. They wouldn't be able to spot a knot if you tied it in their hair. And now I feel fortunate to have found TWO masseuses who are just amazing. I first came to Jennifer about 18 months ago. Serita about 6 months ago. I go at least once per month and it has been a very important part of me taking care of my body. Everyone below has already said what I would write. I've had hundreds of massages and most of them have been "relaxation." If you want that, you can find it almost anywhere - because it's about atmosphere and the sigh that you feel when you wake up from the nap you just took. A nap that you paid $100 for... I saw her once, thanks to a friend who bought me a massage as a gift, but went back to her when I was experiencing tension headaches. Tension headaches for four days straight - to the point that I was blurry-eyed and crying in front of my computer while attempting to work. She alleviated that pain. Jennifer doesn't put you to sleep. She works your body. She feels the pain (in a way that blows my mind), exercises an exceptional knowledge of anatomy and throughout the experience you're literally feeling pain and discomfort leave your body. Not to mention, she REMEMBERS you - your injuries, your sports, your pressure preference. Unbelievable. And unlike most massages, I wasn't sore the next day (if I followed her instructions of stretching and drinking a ton of water). Instead, I had gained a longer reach in my stretches and lightness in my body. It wasn't just the day after either... it stuck for about a week until I carried a heavy pack (my fault). I'll need another one soon because I travel frequently and planes do terrible things to your body. Since we moved to SF two years ago I see Jennifer on a regular basis - once a month. I am an active tennis player and keep up that maintenance massage just to relax those muscles. During times of injuries I came every other week and Jennifer supported physical therapy with massage and ultra sound treatments. I felt instant improvement - amazing! Just have to say that Serita is a massage magician!! It's seriously like waiting for Christmas morning whenever I have an appointment coming up. I have a lot of past sports injuries (multiple shoulder dislocations, knee pain/injuries), ridiculopathy, pain from my daily biking commute of 7+ miles, and loads of stress from work and I swear, I am a completely different person after a session with her. "Healing Touch" is right! I came to Jennifer to help with the tension I was feeling in my neck and shoulders... and to help my forget about my stress. She started with the most stimulating and soothing scalp and face massage to help me ground myself. I didn't want her to stop. I thought this would be the best part of the massage. Nope.. she then worked on my neck, with deep... very deep tension releasing magic hands techniques (I felt her level of experience right away). This is when I thought.. "wow! This is my favorite part". Nope.... she felt a lot of tension in my shoulders.. again deep into my rotator cuff. She notices the difference between my arms and worked on what needed to be worked. Although, the session itself was the most therapeutic and deep (that word again) massage I've experienced, I couldn't imagine not receiving this level of care on a regular basis. It's better than other therapists because she uses her thumbs instead of her elbows. That allows her to really focus the pressure to where it's needed. I've had plenty of "relaxation" massages over the years. They're nice for an hour or so of peaceful escape, but when they're over, they're over. I'm sure Jennifer can do a great relaxation massage, and if that was what I was looking for, I'd call her first. But for my money, she's one of the best Therapeutic Masseuses I've ever used. She has very strong hands and understands how to relieve stress, knots, spasms and overall tension through systematic application of pressure and massage. Tell her how deeply and forcefully you want her to work, and she is able to take you right up to that point - and yet do it in a gentle fashion, which to me is where her artistry lies. If one so chooses, she will encourage the client to actively work with her during the massage, to increase the overall therapeutic benefit. This makes for a much more effective session, and I feel that the results are more lasting than those achieved from a more traditional passive "lie there and doze" approach. Jennifer was recommended to me when I had a killer neck spasm. It was basically a painful tense knot that I couldn't stretch or massage out myself. She was able to relax the spasm and relieve the pain by using strong but gentle massage techniques, not just at the point of the spasm, but in the surrounding areas as well. If you're searching for bodywork that provides immediate and long lasting therapeutic results, as opposed to a short-lived surface rub, I would highly recommend Jennifer. read more
