Don't listen to the trolls! The best food in town if you want simple, local, flavorful ingredients! We really enjoyed the small plates! We also walked in 20mins before closing and we're NOT rushed out, they seem to go about their work as usual, no rush. I very rarely bother to leave restaurant reviews, unless I'm particularly impressed or disappointed. Native is a rare gem in such a rural area like honesdale. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the trendy vibe is very refreshing for the area. The place is very clean, and the bar is well stocked and great. The staff was wonderful, I wish I could remember our servers name but she was very friendly, kind and offered recommendations. The menu was unique and fairly diverse, with GF, vegan and vegetarian options. Now the food was wonderful! According to our waitress they try to get as much from local farms and farmers markets as possible and you could tell. The Green Salad was the best I have ever had, I've never had greens so fresh and tasty. The Meatballs were incredible, the browned butter Ricotta Ravioli with almonds was also delicious. The portions are on the small side - which I personally like. And the panna cotta came with farm fresh grilled peaches. All in all a wonderful experience. So let me just say to the people complaining about price and portion sizes, if you want all you can eat for 14.95 don't come here. If you want fresh, from scratch and locally supplied ingredients then this is the place. The staff were VERY friendly, the food was amazing. We did a bunch of small plates, split 1 Entree and had desserts for 2, the bill was just over a 100 bucks. Cozy atmosphere , very contemporary feel. My boyfriend and I planned an end of the summer get away and we both discovered Native when searching for places to eat in the Honesdale area. We loved our meal so much we decided to dine there the next evening. Everything we ordered was delicious!! We really liked that they had the option of a half portion choice for dinner, so we were able to enjoy a variety of the small plates. The second night we were seated at the chef's counter, which we initially were apprehensive of, but we highly recommend this experience. It was truly an impressive performance, a well-oiled culinary machine, and such a wonderful display of teamwork and camaraderie. The rest of the staff were great as well; attentive, friendly, and attentive. It was quite busy both nights, so reservations are recommended. We are from out of town and had no idea where to go to dinner. It turned out that Native was an excellent choice. Between five of us we had four different dishes +2 appetizers and everything was really truly outstanding. Prices were reasonable, service was good. I wish the seating was a bit more comfortable, butI have to be really fussy to find something to complain about. If I lived here I'd be back a lot. read more

My wife and I have eaten at Native a few times and it never disappoints. We have also brought our son and daughter in law and they love it too. First of all the drinks are excellent and the staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient. And then there is the food. Everything we have eaten from Native has been great. All quality ingredients and often something special like boar is on the menu. The presentation is excellent and the ingredients and sauces compliment each other well. The Toasts (I think we have had them all) are a great appetizer and the salads are generous and really tasty. The rest of the menu is also great, but my favorite is the Short Rib Mac and Cheese. I always get the large so I can take some home. Make sure you leave room for the desserts since they are also always great. read more

These guys definitely raise the bar for dining in the Honesdale area. Great locally sourced ingredients, menu is simple yet diverse, nice little bar with properly mixed cocktails.. And the atmosphere is upscale without being pretentious. Friendly staff and management. What else can I say. I gotta get there at least once every few weeks for the Charred Caesar salad alone. I've gotten food from here a few times. Always excellent, reminds me of eating in the city. The menu is interesting and flavors are good. They seem to put a lot of time and effort in sourcing things locally, which I appreciate. Staff was knowledgeable about the food and particularly the wine. I had the roasted beet salad which was tasty and the ribeye was cooked perfectly. I appreciated the social distancing precautions, masks, and general care for us diners. read more

We had a party of eight and enjoyed an outstanding meal in the upstairs private area. Started with cocktails and shared apps including roasted mushrooms toast, salmon belly tartare, burrata, and tomato and cucumber salad. All were first rate and delicious. My daughter says "The Lady" cocktail was killer. Entrees were just as impressive. I had the trout which was well prepared and delicious. Three had Short Rib Mac and Cheese...huge hit. This place is a hidden gem and a must try. I'm not a person that leaves reviews regularly but when an experience is as good as what my family and I just had, you have to say something. From the starters to the desserts there is nothing on this menu I wouldn't try. The service was perfect and I mean perfect. The food lacked for nothing and the cocktails and wine were delightful. As Vegans, we were happy to see vegan offerings. However when our "roasted cauliflower" was served it was barely cooked and HARD to cut. When we sent our "roasted cauliflower"back, the chefs claimed that they "couldn't do any more" to it. Our first entree was titled "roasted beets" but the beets did not look roasted and tasted like they were out of a can. While Native has an understated exterior, the small restaurant packs big flavor and a great atmosphere. The open style restaurant mixes a hole-in-the-wall size with a modern design, allowing views of meals being prepared due to the open kitchen. Despite its size, service is excellent and even when crowded, it never seems too loud. As a local, I can attest that the cocktails are the best in town, with an adequate beer and wine selection, The food is delicious, and while it's a bit pricey and the portions are on the small size, I certainly got bang for my buck in taste and quality. I have to say living in Honesdale all my life, I love my little town. That being said I have longed to be able to stay local and have a cocktail and great meal. I drive FAR for good food! Finally! a hip cool place in our little hamlet! I feel like I'm in the city. From the atmosphere, design and menu offerings and awesome full bar with signature cocktails I need not travel for this is right here! As for price, I have no problem paying for quality ingredients prepared expertly as was my experience the 3 times I've had the pleasure of dining at Native. My husband and I drove from Nevada to Pennsylvania over 7 days. We're rather snobby about our food and I took the time to reseach each restaurant we stopped at. Native was hands down the best food we ate on our trip. It was so good we ate there two nights in a row. The customer service was fabulous as well. We were very happy to have the same sweet server both nights. I loved being able to watch the chefs cook. You could see and taste the passion they are putting into their food. When visiting family for Thanksgiving we decided to stop in at Native which had recently opened in Honesdale. Luckily, the people I went with called ahead for reservations. The posh dining area was filling up fast when we arrived. Even with the busy business we were well taken care of and received the correct orders in a timely manner. I'm not the type of person to write a review but I think this would be helpful for the restaurant as it is new to the area and I could definitely see the potential in what they're trying to accomplish. I work as a professional in the restaurant industry and have an understanding of price points. For what my family and I received (we ordered from multiple categories on the menu, one app and entree per person) was not even close to what we expected for the price. My advice would be to offer larger portion sizes or lower the price. We left hungry and disappointed in the quality of the food we were served overall. The steak ($25) came with crispy potato (a pile of potato chip shavings- simply put) and 5-6 little baby Bella mushroom slices. The portion of the steak would have been fine if they had included better sides. The duck tagliatelle was bland, the dish was dry and lacked flavor. The mushroom agnolotti ($14) came with 4 raviolis lined up on a plate, little to no sauce or garnish, and tasted ok but not worth the price. The service and atmosphere were excellent, I hope they make the necessary changes or I don't see returning customers in their future. read more

Native is a new found treasure in historic Honesdale, Pa. Caleb & Alex Johnson have managed to bring haute cuisine using local ingredients to a location boasting a casual & cozy, yet hip atmosphere. We drove up from Philly burbs to try it out, and expected great things having sampled Calebs talents at Barbuzzo in downtown Philly. Totally worth the drive! The homemade pasta was amazing, favorites were squid ink and clams and the pumpkin gnocchi were like pillows of deliciousness. The homemade meat board was phenomenal. The venison osso bucco and steak with frilly potato fries were enjoyed by the whole family. Not only was the food tasty and delicious, the creativity in the presentation and attention to detail is something never seen before in Honesdale or surrounding Pocono Mtn establishments. Cocktails and wine selection were surprising and well curated. Kid friendly menu items were appreciated too! I've lived in Manhattan for over forty years and have had the luxury of being able to have a place in New York City and a weekend home in the Catskills... five years ago my husband and I retired to our "now" permanent home in the Catskills and haven't been able to have our culinary tastes satisfied until the opening of NATIVE in Honesdale, PA... We were lucky to have been invited to their flagship opening and have spent one night every week at this unique restaurant..many appetizers and entrees have been adapted since the opening and all I can say is the food is something I have not experienced in a long time....careful attention has been paid to savory combinations of herbs and spices blended into meats, vegetables, fish and pastas... the prices are perfectly matched with the potions of each dish...the ambiance is terrific and one night we had a great time sitting at the chef's counter, watching our meal being constructed.
