We had an electric power emergency today where a tree branch had worn through our power line neutral cable. Nate's Tree Service came out quickly and cut off a bunch of branches to clear a path for the new PG&E line. They were very collaborative and helpful in determining which branches to cut and did a great job with clean up. They worked fast and did a good job. read more

Tree Red Evidently these "professionals" contract out thru PG&E to trim trees in and around people's homes that are nearby powerlines and utility poles. Had the unfortunate pleasure of having to deal with these payasos not once, not twice, not three times--but FOUR times! It took them four visits before they finally did anything and not once did they ever bother to schedule a visit. They just cold call without leaving a door knocker or any kind of notification from either them or PG&E. Fortunately for them I'm a nice guy and in the construction trades, so I don't like to prevent people from doing their jobs, so I let them have access every time. And how do they thank me? By making a huge mess in my yard, hacking my trees, and leaving me to deal with their fallen branches. Never again. If these "arborists" come knocking tell them thanks but no thanks. read more

Needed help cutting down some trees, took multiple calls to schedule, came after schedule time, not great value for your money

PGE for some reason, probably to save money, hired Nate's Tree Service of Sonora to butcher trees in Oakland. My experience with the tree companies hired by PGE is that they cut a big V in your tree, way beyond what's need for fire safety, ruining the tree's beauty. PGE used to hire Davey Tree, which butchered the Grand Old Sycamore tree in front of our house more than once. To avoid such maiming,, I have been using professional arborists from Brende & Lamb prune the Sycamore artfully. They adequately remove limbs that might pose a fire risk, but leave the tree full, balanced and safe. Nate Tree Service arrived today. I have not had prior experience with them. I explained to the guy in charge that the tree had been pruned recently by Brende & Lamb, professional arborists. I,asked him to take a look. He refused to look up at it. He was determined to attack the tree come hell or high water. We had a loud exchange. I refused to move my car and myself from under the tree. He said they'd proceed to prune and if a limb fell and hit me or my car, it was my own fault. I called their office in Sonora and explained the lawsuit which would ensue if they proceeded and that I am a litigation lawyer who enjoys litigation. The person who took my call said she'd speak to their foreman. The workers took an hour for lunch. Then they packed up and left, hopefully on their way back to Sonora. read more

Literally left a 100 tons of wood chips on my property, now have to deal with them myself and worried about them heating up and igniting a fire. Two guys in a Nate's Tree service pickup showed up here last week - here to do PGE service clearing weeds under the power pole. They were here for over an hour - two guys, weedwackers, blowers. Took lots of photos, banged their weedeaters against the power pole leaving scrapes, left weed eater line pieces on the ground. Then sat in their truck for 15 minutes, using their cellphones with the engine running. Strangely enough, the same business was here yesterday with only one guy, who couldn't get his equipment to work - but was still here for over half an hour doing nothing. He said he'd be back the next morning but was a no show. My son does the same area in 15 minutes with one weedwacker. Someone's making money off PG&E - no wonder our rates keep going up. If they ever show up here again, I'm taking photos of everything they touch. read more

I have used Nate's Tree service for two projects. I find their pricing to be the best but even more than that they provide outstanding service. They have the latest equipment and their employees busted a move to get my projects done with my complete satisfaction on and above my expectations! Cody was top notch ,the team leader and Logan an employee that was second to none that he was determined to make everything perfect. This company is a subcontractor for PG&E and they came to the house, nice young man had me sign a refusal for them to trim back a plant in my front yard because it was in a fenced off area not easily accessible. I SIGNED A PAPER STATING I DID NOT WANT THEM ON MY PROPERTY. I came home today to find out they ignored that paper and tore down my fence and hacked my plant to nothing and threw all the bits on my spring bulbs that were coming up. We trimmed the plant in question, back by 60% and they trespassed despite it all. Terrible. Disrespectful. I will take this as far as I need to because why else would I sign a paper telling them expressly not to come onto my property?! read more

Called to have multiple trees limbed that were threatening my house. First off, they were very convenient when it came to scheduling. They came out and limbed the first two trees without nearly dropping a limb in mine or my neighbor's yard by hand dropping each cut into a specific spot. Once the first two were done, I had a third tree that they were originally concerned about getting to because it might have to involve road closure. Not the case! They were able to back their big bucket truck down a tiny narrow road and get to that one too. We had a leaning tree approximately 85-100ft that if in the right conditions, (snow, heavy rain, wind) could come down and damage our neighbor's home, or ours. Todd @ Nate's came out, inspected and gave us an estimate. They were booked up, but gave us a date, and even moved us up in their schedule when they had an earlier opening. Josh and his helper were on time, no accidents, and cleaned up afterward. They also cut the wood in lengths that we can split and burn next winter. This company has been contracted by PGE to go on property owners land and butcher beautiful trees with zero knowledge of what they're doing. These guys are handed a chainsaw and off they go, hacking large portions of 25-30 year old trees on personal property that they think may be too close to a power pole. We understand fire. We understand the fuel. There are a gazillion trees tangled in lines that are never touched while they come on personal property and destroy it. No notice, no warning, they don't even clean up the freakin mess. The homeowner is left with a severely damaged tree that will likely die and could topple. These people are ruthless. They cower and won't respond to property owners who have been violated by these practices. They just destroy your property and run. Claiming it's for fire protection. As the word goes Nate's Tree Service, Come on out to PML in Groveland and say it to our face. Stand next to a 30 year old tree you just destroyed and explain to the homeowner WHY each branch was considered fire hazard. The neighborhood is pissed off at you. GET OUT !!!! read more

I would not recommend Nate's Tree service. They were hired by PG&E to cut down and trim some trees in our yard. We were aware that the work was being done, but were surprised by the methods they used to cut the trees down and the mess they left in our yard and neighborhood street for several weeks after the job. Instead of cutting down our large pine trees in sections, they dropped 50' lengths, using two healthy trees to guide them down (which damaged the healthy trees). I called Nate's customer service and they mentioned that they were super busy and had been sub-contacting work due to all the PG&E jobs. They weren't sure who was actually doing the work on our property. They also mentioned that they typically did rush jobs like this because they were busy. When I mentioned the damage and that I wanted their arborist to inspect the damage, the rep said they didn't have an certified arborist in their staff (seriously?) and they would need to call someone from Sacramento (what???). After some convincing, she said she would send someone from their crew out to take a look. Nate Jr. came out later that afternoon and inspected the job, but didn't seem to apologetic. He tried to convince me that the trees they damaged would callous over and should be cut down anyways. I found this recommendation hard to believe because I had an arborist inspect all the trees in our yard the month prior and he said these particular trees were happy and healthy. Nate Jr. did offer to have my septic inspected and send out a certified arborist to look at the damage on their dime. I called Nate's office and left several messages to set up these inspections, and have never heard back. I've had a lot of tree work done at multiple properties I've owned, and never seen such a rushed, botch job like this. It was nice to have the owner come out promptly after I called, however, their overall response was pretty lame and felt like pure lip service. read more

He added that large cut logs of the tree would be removed by another crew of Nate's tree in 2 weeks. The later part never happened. He stopped replying to me. Victoria of PG&E vegetation department (415) 416-76xx said Nate's Tree has not been honest, as PG&E does not remove logs of cut tree. So why PG&E contracts with a dishonest company ?! read more

Nate's tree service showed up at our house (they were spotted on security camera) but ,they hadn't been called by us. Apparently they had gone to the wrong address. They marked several trees with spray paint indicating which were to be either trimmed or cut down. After calling the main office we were able to determine they had made a mistake. I requested that someone come back and paint over all the markings on the trees.I was assured that someone would do that. About a week later I called again saying the trees still had spray paint on them and that no one had come to fix the damage. Again, another promise to send someone out. Some time ago, I recommended Nates to an older friend of mine. While they were doing the tree work, my friends shed was damaged. While Nate accepted responsibility for the damages, three months later the repairs had not even begun. Out of my guilt for recommending Nates for the job, I fixed the shed myself and presented a bill (less than $100) to Nates. Much time has gone by and I still have yet to be repaid for a mistake that he admitted was their fault.
