If I could give them 6 stars I would. Exceptional fast service and at a reasonable price. With the help of my son and grandson, we had done our own trimming of a very large, overgrown Silver Dollar Gum tree. We ended up with a yard full of limbs, branches, and a jungle of all kinds of smaller branches. After Gus gave me the quote for just chipping service, the crew was at my house within hours. This is the second time we had this great crew come to Sonora and cut back and down some dying poplar trees in front and some big branches of oak in our backyard and as always they did a perfect job. The climber and the crew work together famously and they cut a limb and it falls right where they want it to. They work together so well and there never is a problem. We had a huge dead white birch tree in front of our house we needed removed as well as a stump in our backyard. I got a few free estimates all from licensed tree businesses and Discovery offered the best deal and time efficiency and I felt good about it so went with them and have 0 regrets. They did a great job. They were careful not to damage any structure surrounding the birch tree while cutting it down and they cleaned up well. You can't even tell there was a tree there now. Basic experience. Gus was not too happy but he matched competitors price. For the most part the job was done professionally. My neighbor complained about their grass being damaged. Gus was not present during the trimming and so the tree didn't get trimmed to agreed size. I didn't reach out to Gus because it was over all an improvement. read more

The quote was extremely high compared to other quotes I received. I negotiated for much less. An appointment was set for about a week out. The morning they were due to be at my house, they weren't there. I had a tight schedule that day, after 15 minutes late I called to see if they were coming. Gus said the guys would be late because they "worked late last night." When I asked him how late he said about an hour from then. Needless to say I was not happy. He wasn't even going to call me to let me know the delay!! When I explained that was not way to run a business he said he would get to my house as soon as he could. When he arrived at my house about 40 minutes after the phone call he parked in front of my house for about 15 minutes, sitting in the vehicle. If it were my business I would be communicating with the customer as soon as possible trying to smooth things over. When he finally came to the door the peace offering was two free pens. Hmmm...seemed a little strange to me. He then told me the guy who was supposed to be working on my trees, he thought he had a hangover. I told him he was NOT to be working in my yard. He said he called someone else to do the job. At this time he offers me a carved bear that "he usually only gives to customers who have $5,000 + work completed. It must have been his "olive branch." By the time the other guy showed up, it was 1 1/2 from the original start time. And, when the guy came, he didn't have a ladder. Luckily I had one he could use. The job was completed, and ended about three hours later than it was supposed to. Gus should have followed through, checking on the work. He didn't. I did call to let him know they left some branches in my rain gutters that need to be cleaned up. He never came back. Needless today it was not the best experience over all. read more

We were very impressed with Gus and his guys. Gus came all the way to Groveland the same day we asked him about giving us an estimate for removing a couple of dead pine trees (darned bark beetles!). He identified other trees which also could cause problems, and let us make decisions about which ones we wanted him to work on. He sent a couple of guys, who arrived right on time, worked hard all day, and came back the next day to finish. They were very pleasant to work with, and the job was perfect when they finished. We also needed stump grinding done at another house in Groveland, and that worker was just a nice, and did a great job. He used a screen to keep debris from hitting the house, which impressed us.
