We needed to have about 4 acres of land "weed-whacked" and some trees trimmed back from the road for fire abatement at a mountain property. I tried to contact several companies in the Sonora area, including Northcali. Within a few hours, Jonathan got back to me (only one that did). Due to the scope of the job, he decided it made sense for him to come out and walk the property. We set up a time and Jonathan showed up at the scheduled time! He gave us a fair quote and told us what day he'd be there. On the appointed day, he arrived with his crew and they got to work. During the day I received several texts from Jonathan as he noted a few other trees and dead limbs that he felt should also be removed for fire safety--he even sent pictures to get our approval before cutting the trees. All and all, a great experience. We've used other individuals in the past to do similar work and none were as professional or reliable. Jonathan is the first one who showed up when he said he would and did an outstanding job. Our across-the-street neighbor came by to see what we were having done and was so impressed with Jonathan's work that he hired him on the spot to do his property. We have had a hard time finding a landscape maintenance company that will do maintenance when we need it not on a weekly or biweekly schedule. We don't have grass to mow, or flowerbeds to weed, we do have 3 acres with hedges, trees and bushes that need attention about every 6 to 8 weeks, with our minor maintenance in between. Jonathan and crew came out and took down three oak trees damaged by a combination of devil worshipping carpenter ants and wind gusts in early summer. Trees were felled with no damage to adjacent trees. Except for a half empty water bottle, the area was cleaned up after the work was completed and all was well with the universe. Pro team. Northcali Landscaping & Tree Services was hired to chop down two trees inside Stanislaus National Forest. One of the trees had grown into the house. It was delicate work. Gave us a quote on decking and stairs and pathways around the property. We accepted and work started. These guys are obviously NOT builders. They tried to build stairs with 1" pine boards, 3' wide. Each step was a different size and distance from the previous step. Attached with brad nails. Not treated and not reinforced in any way. They tried using untreated 2x4 as posts in the ground with 5" of concrete. My wife lifted the post out of the ground with one hand. I had to stop them from building the deck. They were using 1 2x4 as joists, laid flat. The concrete for the posts were not poured correctly and again, they did not use any pressure treated wood as specified in the quote. It took them 3 tries to cut steps into the hillside before they just simply quit. I thought Jonathan was a good guy, but he ghosted us after receiving payment for unfinished work. It seems that the landscaping work is where they need to live...anything more and they don't have the skillset or professionalism to complete the task let alone do it to code or even safely. Very disappointed. I have the contracts if anyone would like to see them. read more
