    Dumpling soup
    Berk O.

I had an evening meeting in Newton and I was so excited to come back to Narin Thai. As with last time it was great! I started with the seafood dumpling soup. Nice light vegetables broth and delicious dumplings containing shrimp. I also had a seafood salad. Many nice greens, including mint and cilantro, asparagus, scallops, crab and shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce. I finished with more seafood, cashews and more perfectly cooked vegetables. I probably should have just gone all vegi as that's my usual fare. It was very good just too many seafood dishes in one sitting. I definitely recommend Narin. For locals it's BYOB.

This has quickly become our favorite restaurant. The quality of the food is exceptional. Everything we order is delicious. It's a rare gem hidden away in Newton.

They're just so tasty! The filling is a flavorful curry mixture of potato and chicken. Although I didn't taste the chicken, it didn't detract from the dish. The pastry was fork tender. Soo good! For dinner I like the pad se ew. It's more on the savory side than other restaurants I've tried but is consistently good. Speaking of savory, I've noticed Thai can be either savory or sweet depending on where you go. This place balances flavors on the savory/umami side. My boyfriend always gets the drunken noodles and bc I don't like spicy but he does, he asks for chili on the side. They bring out a tray containing 4 different spicy pepper based accoutrements. He loves this! The servers definitely never rush us, which I also appreciate bc we tend to come here on date nights. I like to get a bit dressy (dark denim and nicer top) and I don't look out of place here but jeans and a tshirt works too. We recently got the mango coconut sticky rice for dessert and enjoyed it. They served the rice warm, which was great and the mango was perfectly ripe and sweet. We'll get that again for sure! Also, they tend to stay open even in inclement weather, which is great. The dining area is separated a bit from the cash register so those picking up takeout orders don't detract from your meal.

I don't know why I was surprised to discover this was in a strip mall, but that's on me. A nice one, at least. The place was relatively busy but we were able to secure a table easily with zero wait time. Pleasant vibes inside. I don't mean this as an insult at all but I was expecting more ethnic decor in line with the restaurant's menu - instead, it's pretty Americanized and feels like a classic suburban NJ establishment. I liked the painted brick on the lefthand side that has Blue Spice's logo/sign on it; spiffy. The bathroom was also a high point, which is...not something I say often. It was very clean and smelled nice, and I liked the dark cruise-ship lighting vibe. We decided to split the scallion pancake app, which was an excellent decision. I work in the city and regularly have this item from a place in Chinatown, and I honestly thought this was better, mostly because it was thicker/denser than what I'm used to. Super tasty and would get that again in a heartbeat. Giant portion as well - we split the pancake, which was roughly the size of a small pizza. My chum had leftovers there, I did not; so it goes with us. I've had a few mediocre chicken katsu experiences of late, so this seemed like a chance for redemption. I ordered the Akiko Curry entree, which was their spin on chicken katsu curry. Honestly wasn't my favorite. Again, a HUGE portion here and was only able to finish about 60% of it despite having a pretty legit appetite coming in. And the presentation value is excellent as well, as far as that goes. This could easily just be a personal palate preference, but I wasn't crazy about the curry itself (which had a weird tang to it) and didn't resemble the standard curry I'm used to with this dish. Also, as you can see from the attached, the curry is basically on the side of the dish, separated from the chicken and rice. Because of that, the chicken is on the dry side, which is my primary beef (pun?) with the item to begin with. So a miss for me, but I could see why other people would like this (and apparently do). The service was excellent, full stop. Our waitress was very nice and personable; she had strong command of the menu and you could see her consistently engaging with other patrons throughout our meal as well. She took several group photos so this is apparently a Kingdom of Sussex hot spot for that, which I wouldn't have guessed. She was so good both of us remarked on it multiple times during the meal, which is a rarity. But a great example of hospitality markedly improving an experience and making what was already an overall positive situation that much better. Huge marks there. Would definitely come back but would explore other parts of the menu once I feasted on the scallion pancake.
