Today was my first time getting my nails done by Nancy and I have nothing but great things to say about my experience. I called her at 10:27am and received a called back at 10:31am asking me what time I was looking to come in. I've been getting my nails done solely by Nancy since I discovered her back in 2015. And she has, pun intended, nailed it every single time. I don't think I've ever come away from a single appointment disappointed by her manis (and even if I feel like I chose the wrong color, that's on me, not her, but her color selection is nicely curated). Made the mistake of going elsewhere since I moved to WeHo, but won't be doing that again. The quality of her work can't be matched at bigger salons. She is super meticulous, proud of her work, and genuinely loves what she does. Her tiny 2-seat set up has always been clean, but is even more organized during Covid. It's refreshing to find a hidden gem in Marina del Rey. I discovered her a few weeks ago via Yelp and already got my second gel mani and pedi. There's a good selection of Essie and OPI gel + matching lacquer colors and she DOES NOT offer designs / chrome art/ etc. Not only is she friendly and has a bright sense of humor, Nancy is meticulous and actually cares about what she does other than just getting the job done to get paid. I got a basic pedicure and a gel manicure, and in total I paid $61. I think this is a pretty average price for these services- the Beaut nail salon in my neighborhood charges $45 just for a gel manicure. The salon space is clean and comfortable, and I really like that it's by appointment only, so I know that block of time is for me alone. It's not a regular nail salon, so don't expect bedazzled acrylics or hot stone massages. However, I can't emphasize this enough, this is the best manicure and pedicure I've ever had. I will update this review once I get a first hand experience of her talent that everyone raves about. I called to book for an appointment 3 weeks from the call. She was quick to turn me down and says she has her REGULAR clients to see, is fully booked and will just call me if there was an opening. I suggested other days/times, and tried to work with her but to no avail. She further reiterates that she's a one-man show, 3x. It's probably difficult to attend to the demand. I truly understand this kind of situation. She's a perfectionist, talented and keeps everything in perfect order. Everyone wants her service but there's not enough of her. THEREFORE, since she already has a REGULAR business, with REGULAR clients, that keeps her REGULAR, CONSISTENT 40-50 hrs per week and business is thriving and in perfect order, she should deem her business CLOSED to the public. Her business is similar to a members-only type of club, where clients have already been selected and you need to be in the waitlist to get in, if you ever get in. Take the business off of Yelp so people won't be calling to be turned down and spoken rude to. There's a good chance that the real reason she turned me down was the fact that I was only going to do regular mani. No pedi, no gel. As high demand as she is, this will naturally be a waste of her time and energy especially since there's probably a long waitlist for the more common gel mani/pedi service. read more

I called up Nancy because her yelp reviews are impeccable. She was very stern on the phone and emphasized that she only takes cash and that if I am late for any reason, I could not be seen. I understand her taking extra precaution because it was my first time seeing her, however it felt like she was upset and that's not really the vibe you want to put out there if you want someone to return. I get to her room in the Phoenix Suites and it's small, clean, bright, smells good. She greets me and my mother. I ask if it's okay for my mom to sit in the empty chair, she says it's fine. Music is softly playing in the background. So far, so good. While she's doing my nails, Nancy proceeds to explain to me that she lives two hours away. And that traffic is really bad and that's why she's so pressed when clients come in late because it throws her schedule off. She complains that people say their 5 minutes away and then show up half an hour later. (I was on time by the way). She says it's expensive to rent her room and that she tries to make the most of her time there. And I'm just nodding, agreeing. While I totally understand where she's coming from, it's off putting to come to an appointment to do some relaxing and self care and your technician is complaining the whole time. I understand we all need someone to vent to but I sensed she was very angry about something. I got a gel manicure and a pedicure, if I'm not mistaken, the total was either $60 or $80. I forgot, but I paid, tipped her generously and made my way out. My nails came out okay. They were nice. But I wouldn't rave about them. I've gotten better service elsewhere. She kept everything clean and clearly shows you that the tools were sterilized, and I appreciate that. But I will not be returning and I wouldn't honestly recommend her. Actually stumbled into here on accident thinking I made an appointment at happy nails (both in the same plaza/floor) but was so happy to have done so! The location itself is in a spa suite.. basically there are multiple suites/shops within a building that all share the same hallway. The nail salon is run by just Nancy (maybe someone else too, there was another room) but it's not your typical salon with a group of people working so be sure to make an appointment in advance. (Oh and special note. This place is cash/check only so come prepared. There is an ATM if you don't have either on you.) Nancy is so sweet and seriously meticulous! She was very detail oriented with filing my nails and painting the edges, not just the top surface of the nail. She also took the time to ask me if I was okay with the shape/length instead of assuming and moving to the next steps. Nancy is an absolute gem. I visited her for the first time today after reading all her positive Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed. She is sweet as can be, and was meticulous with my gel manicure. She likes to take her time, so if you're in a hurry, this may not be the right spot for you. She works by herself and commutes 1.5-2 hours to and from West Covina every day, so her time is precious. Be early and respectful!
