She and her team were also not sensitive to the fact that I do not have $10-15k to spend on oral surgery. I also had a very bad experience with a new hygenist in her office, and submitted a compalint, which was not responded to or acknowledged. Despite this, I returned today for a cleaning. At the end of the cleaning, I was an offered an appointment time that did not work for me. When I requested a different time, i was told that they would not be able to work with me anymore. I am and always have been very anxious about going to the dentist, and they commented on my anxiety and discomfort. I was made to feel shamed for my anxiety, and then they blamed my lack of flexibility in my schedule for not seeing me anymore. I recommend staying far away from this toxic environment in the future.

I ask why an admin person in the front desk can not send it over and I'm told that they are busy with other customers. You can't be busy the whole day with customers for a small private office like this. Are the Admin people also helping in the back with dental work ? Or what is making them so busy for a 8 hour day that they can not respond to their patients for a simple request that was paid for? Beyond being cool people, here's why I love the practice: - the office setting is comfortable and welcoming - it's easy to get in and get scheduled - my appointment time is my actual appointment time - not 45 minutes after I've arrived - they embrace technology so you get texts reminding you of your appointment - they accept Denti-Cal. You have to wait for the approval process to go through Denti-Cal itself but that's the insurance process, not the dental practice - Dr. P explains what's going on with your teeth and gums in plain English and has a great sense of humor. She also shows you pictures so you don't have to wonder if what she's recommending is legit. - my procedures have been remarkably painless. This I'm sure is a combination of Dr. P's skill and her exceptional personality (she's a great story teller so you're comfortable the whole time). - due to my previous avoidance I've had to have several procedures. What a sweetheart. So kind, so gentle and you can tell she loves what she does. Explained everything in detail and the best part? No pain whatsoever! Floss was jammed with extreme force into my gums and was given a snarky response about how my teeth were not clean. I've been to Dr. Tobar's office twice and they were by far the worst experience I've ever had at a dental office. I chose her office because of all the wonderful reviews but my experience couldn't have been more opposite. The first time I had a cleaning the dental hygienist was the roughest I have ever experienced after telling her I had one bad experience with a rough cleaning. We finished the cleaning and after I left I had realized that she had forgotten to polish my teeth (fairly standard after a normal clean). I thought maybe I had one bad experience the first time around and given the great reviews, I decided to go through with my already scheduled second appointment about 6 months later. I had the same dental hygienist and although the cleaning felt a little more gentle this time around, she clearly rushed through the polishing and then proceeded to jam floss down my gums with extreme force. After we were done with the flossing, I asked her "is it normal to floss that hard", she then proceeded to give me a snarky response stating that my teeth were never clean when I came in and that she was in a rush to the next appointment. Being in a rush to your next appointment should never take precedent over a client's experience and this was exactly what happened. I checked my phone after we had this exchange and we were a whopping 2 minutes over. The office consistently tried to sell me on a 'deep clean' stating that my insurance would cover 90% of the cost but that it would still cost me $200 out of pocket for this 'deep clean'. The office was very pushy and continuously asked me to schedule a deep clean every chance they were able to while I was in the office. Needless to say, I will not be coming in for a 'deep cleaning' or ever again for that matter.

There were many red flags at which point I should've just walked away but I don't know why I stayed.. I have major regrets. I was a new patient so they took new x-rays. Dr Laura noticed I had tiny cracks/holes starting to form on some of my teeth and recommended fillings. (I've never needed them and was very hesitant to agree to this but she made it seem like the cracks would get worse if I didn't deal with them now. {Spoiler, my new dentist affirmed that I did NOT need fillings, especially ones so big..} so, me being afraid/nervous and trusting her judgment, I agreed to proceed) My first visit, I did a deep cleaning and they numbed my gums. I've never had to numb my gums for a cleaning.. 2nd red flag For the fillings they had to split up into 2 sessions because the numbing would be too much in 1 session. The assistant who filled my teeth seemed like he knew what he was doing, but I quickly learned that he did not.. before he started the procedure, he told me one thing and ended up doing another. I had to ask after the session, didn't we agree to this? And he just played it off like an oops things. I emailed the front desk saying that was unacceptable. I was so in shock in the moment that I didn't say anything to him, and I needed to get back to work. Front desk replied that they would speak to him but I wouldn't know if they actually did. 3rd red flag Finally, the cost of the fillings and deep cleaning were so much. I feel like they were trying to nickel and dime me and really pressured me to do fillings when I didn't need to. Now I can't remove them. And for deep cleaning, I definitely did not need to be numbed, which seemed like an easy way for them to upcharge me. Honestly this has been on my mind for the past year but I wasn't sure if it was just me or if this is just how all dental offices are.
