From the outside, it looks just average. And sometimes you really can judge a book by its cover. The pluses: the price is right, here. They definitely try to undercut their competitors. Their pies are the neopolitan style I grew up with so there's that. And it looks pretty good too. The minuses: Bland, bland and more bland. I had a sausage and onions slice and a white slice. The sausage had very little flavor. I suspect they use a less expensive brand because it is average at best. Thank goodness for the onions because without that, this review would be a lot worse. The white slice had zero flavor. It's literally mozzarella and ricotta and nothing more. I put the box in a hot trunk which is my secret to keeping food hot bringing it home. I got home, opened box and dug right in. It was luke warm at best. If you can't get the reheating process right, it makes me wonder where else are you taking shortcuts? My review assistant summed it up best: "If we lived in Wyoming, this would be the best pizza in town. But we live in Central New Jersey and there are so many better options" Disappointing for Sayreville. Overall Rating: D+

If I didnt have Google Maps, I probably wouldn't have found this place. It's on Rte 9 you say? Yes, it is. Should be easy to find, right? Well, no. If you are on the Rte 9 Southbound side, you are on the correct side. But note, you CANNOT see this pizzeria from Rte 9. There are several restaurants and stores in front of it. It is in a back row of stores next to the Rte 9 Farmer's Market. (I didn't know this farmers market existed until today.) Due to location, I think Pronto may only be known to the locals and the patrons of the Farmer's Market. And that's a shame because the pies are excellent. I ordered one plain slice and one Sicilian slice. The plain was excellent. Abundant premium mozzarella cheese, tangy sauce and flavorful Italian seasonings make this a wonderfully tasty local slice that's worth your time. The outer crust and undercarriage were both crispy and delicious. There's just a slight limpness but the slice does stand at attention with a small fold of the outer crust which also prevents the toppings from sliding off. The Sicilian slice was even better. Great Sicilian flavor with all of the aforementioned attributes mske this slice a show stopper. No limpness at all. One notable observation is for Sicilian pizza it's not thick at all. But the flavor is so good, it's forgivable. The crust is extremely crispy and unlike any Sicilian crust I've sampled in this area. But dont let this stop you from ordering one or a dozen. With the odd location, this place is the very definition of a hidden gem. They have their own way of doing pizza here but it doesn't make the pizza any worse than its competitors. I'd recommend you give them shot to see for yourself. It is definitely worthy of your time and money.... if you can find it. Overall Rating : A

As you can see from the pics, it doesn't look like they've changed a stick of furniture in this place since they opened. Both owners were on premise today when I ordered my pies. When you meet these people, you will feel like you are talking to your grandma and grandpa. That alone gives my review a boost. I ordered a grandma pie (of course) and a pepperoni pie. Both were very good. Both pizzas are firm and stand up nicely as you are eating. The sauce is very tasty, but there's not enough of it on the slices. Both pies could also use a bit more Italian spices. And both pies could have stayed in the oven for another 2 to 3 minutes. Parking is a bit of a headache here too. Today's stop was a place in Sayreville, NJ called Mia's Pizza Restaurant. Mia's is located in a strip mall at the corner of Bordentown Av. and Jernee Mill Road. Normally, when you look at a front window of a restaurant and see two different varieties of food, you should run away. Mia's boasts both Italian and Mexican food. What I've learned thru the years is, if you say you can make great Mexican food and great Italian food, then you can't make great anything. I ordered one plain slice and one sausage slice and hoped for the best. I was actually optimistic because every table in this place was taken. The good: Both the outer crust and undercarriage were spectacular. Crispy, crunchy and stood up perfectly with no limpness whatsoever. The crust is not dry at all. And the slices are big. Thank goodness I ordered a sausage slice as the sausage added a flavor punch that these slices badly needed. The problems: the sauce is pretty bland. It has a slight hint of basil flavor but there was no other Italian seasoning flavors that I could taste or even see. It also wouldn't hurt if they used a bit more sauce. The cheese is premium but like the sauce, they could use a bit more of it. There isn't a menu in sight. They have a menu board above the front counter. There are no prices on it however. If you aren't going to put out paper menus, then you really need to put prices on the menu board so your customers don't get unpleasant surprises. As much as I wanted to like this place, it just doesn't cut it. They do nothing to differentiate themselves from the stiff local competition. Overall Rating: C

I decided to stay somewhat local and headed over to Vinnie's Pizza in East Brunswick, NJ. I've been to Vinnie's a few times since moving here with mixed results but i understand it's under new ownership. I ordered two large pies (I told ya the crew was hungry so don't judge )--- one plain and one pepperoni. The good: The sauce is plentiful. It's more of a sweet sauce than my preferred tangy style but it's seasoned perfectly. You taste the oregano and basil in each bite. The cheese is also plentiful and it is premium. The outer crust is a bit short on flavor but not bad enough to call it a deal breaker. It's only a little crispy and very moist on the inside. If you're thinking the lack of crispiness would cause the the slices to wilt, surprisingly you'd be incorrect. The slices stand up nicely! I folded the outer crust and there was no toppings sliding off and no oil drip. The bad: The policy they have here requires a 4% surcharge on all cards--- debit or credit. I've seen other places do this and it annoys me every time. Just build the 4% into the menu price and stop making me feel like you're nickel and diming me. Also, the pies could be cooked a few minutes longer to give the crust a crunchier texture. If you're local to East Brunswick, this place is worth a trip for a taste test. But I'm not sure this is what I'd call a destination pizzeria. Give it a shot--- you wont be disappointed. Overall Rating: B+
